"Thank you for your comments. We appreciate getting feedback and compliments from our customers. Let us know if we can ever be of service again. Muchas Gracias, Tony Batista"
I first reached out to Tony for his services on December 26, 2014. My oldest dog had recently passed away. She needed the stability of carpet in her last few months. After her passing, we were ready to update the look of our house. In Tony's initial visits he would always joke how cold our home was inside but admitted he was cold-natured. My husband and I are not, especially with 3 dogs in the house. We maintain a constant temperature of 68-69 degrees year round.
Tony accepted my job immediately and started without delay in early January. The demo was a ton of work. There were several different types of floors installed over the years by previous owners. Our goal was to have a uniform surface throughout the entire first floor. Once they removed all old flooring they brought the oak in to acclimate. The temperature downstairs did decrease after all the furniture and carpet were removed. I even joked about covering the oak with a blanket so that it would warm up. Tony said everything would be fine.
I had issues with his crew after the first few days. Early on, Tony was present on my job site. After the holidays his business picked back up and he was rarely present. In his absence, his crew was very unproductive and sloppy. They left trash for days on end in my front yard, they socialized with an unrelated crew doing work on my neighbor's home, they sat inside my home texting on their phones, even asking if I had wifi. I brought these issues to Tony's attention and expressed my concern that if he said something to them there would be repercussions on my job site from his crew in his absence. He admitted this wasn't the first time clients had brought this behavior to his attention and he appreciated me letting him know. My cause for irritation was only due to their lack of productivity. My first floor is less than 800 sq feet. With 3 guys working, they were progressing very slowly post demo.
Once the float was complete, my husband and I expressed concern over installing hardwoods directly over concrete. He talked about a moisture barrier application that was rolled on to the concrete, similar to paint, that was green in color. We were present throughout the installation and have no pictures of a green barrier on the floor. While he does have a receipt for the moisture barrier, he was not present on the day they were supposed to apply it. We also questioned if it would take to an ice cold concrete slab.
The floors were gorgeous when they were finally done. We thought the shoe molding looked cheap but Tony was the lowest price from any other contractor and we were just glad to have our house back.
Less than 2 months after completion, my floors began to buckle throughout the entire first floor.
Tony came to the house and said we should wait for warmer temps and see if the floor would lay back down. He commented that I wasn't going to like the process in which they could fix it; re-sanding and bringing all the dust back.
The floors in the kitchen got worse. Tony came back for several inspections yet never took any accountability for the work until June. He admitted he had the same problem in a home 2 years prior in which he installed hardwoods over slab. He stated he should have never done this again. At that visit, he had hired a new employee who accompanied him to my house. This gentleman got on his knees in my living room and ran his hands over the buckled floor agreeing that it was bad.
Throughout this all, Tony kept saying my house was too humid and cold. We had a dehumidifier in at his request but there was hardly ever any water in the bucket. We also had a new AC installed the year before Tony began work. To this day, he can only say that the temperatures in my house weren't conducive to his work yet he choose to start a job in January giving me 100% assurance they would be just fine. He feels I have attacked him yet haven't posted any negative reviews until today. Because I "attacked him" he will not fix the work in my house. I did send me him an email this past summer stating, "We were all done here". I was scared to bring his crew back into my home knowing that I wasn't happy with their work. I had 4 other contractors who refused to fix the floors because there was no present moisture barrier. They didn't want to take on someone else's mistake. After finding no one who would help me with the floors, I resorted back to Tony. His response was captured at the top of this post.
I am currently pursuing legal action against Floors 2 Luv.
Neighbors, friends, beware. Tony is a smiling sales man that likes to talk about God and his blessings. He will routinely say he isn't charging you for something as if he's doing you a favor. Tony's crew did not install a moisture barrier in my home. I've had an independent inspection done on the now exposed concrete and there's no trace of it. We've had to pull up a portion of the floor because the buckling was so bad it caused a trip and safety hazard. The moisture barrier should be very visible once the floor is removed. IT"S NOT THERE.
Tony, we'll see you in Court. May God be with you.
"They agreed and indicated that they would be changing their windows and taking other actions to fix the problem. They called us when the floor was showing signs of (member name removed) contacted us and we accomplished the work as agreed The (member name removed) were given a great price in spite of the many layers of floors found. During the work I did discuss with both Mr and Mrs (member name removed) that the humidity level in their home was excessive.(It did not seem like the air conditioner worked at all). They agreed and indicated that they would be changing their windows and taking other actions to fix the problem. They called us when the floor was showing signs of problems. We pulled some floor and found liquid flowing as if a pipe had broken. (member name removed) said she would call a plumber. We also gave her a dehumidifier. She asked that we not contact her for a while as she would be attending the OTC conference. When she asked why we had not return we told her. She became irate on a personal level and ask that we not contact her any more."
We contacted Floors 2 Luv following collection of a list of woodworking contractors on Angie's List. We took quotes from three providers, and Tony gave us the best rate and promised ability to have the job completed under a tight deadline. From start to finish, Tony came to the house everyday to check on the progress of his staff, and advised us on the progress and recommendations for the future maintenance of our new stairs.
It's been about a month, and they still look great. We'd definitely recommend him to our friends and look to Floors 2 Luv for future projects.
"[member name removed] thank you for your positive comments on this review. The pictures also look great. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!"
Tony runs his business with integrity and honesty and treated us with respect. His prices are fair, the work is exceptional, and he is a very easy to talk to and completely transparent. We've used a lot of contractors during our renovation, however Tony has been the best to work with by far in this process.
There was an area in living area that was previously about a 3' x 5' register. It had been covered with some nonmatching material that felt insecure to me. Tony put some new wood there.sanded and stained it for a perfect match to the rest of the floor.
There was also an area in hallway that was raised. Tony advised me to get confirmation that this was not a foundation problem which I did and it turned out not to be. None of the other 2 contractors mentioned this potential problem.
Also, the other contractors wanted the rooms cleared of furniture. Although I had a couple of friends do this, Floors 2 Luv offers to do this for nominal fee.
I can say I now have Floors I Love.
"[member name removed] thank you for you business and your comments. I sincerely hope that the work we did will help you sell your townhouse very quickly. All the best and we look forward to serving you again in the future."

On the first day, Tony's crew showed up promptly at 8 AM and got straight to work. My fiance and I were in and out of the house all day, running errands and trying to stay out of their way. We were coming back to the house in the evening around 5:30 PM and were completely flaggerbasted to find the crew still there finishing up for the day. And to my utter surprise, in place of our stinky, torn-up old carpet, which our two pets have used as their personal playground over the last several years, was a beautiful wood floor. The entire installation took just one day! Now of course there was still polishing and staining to be done, but I was impressed with how hard they worked and with the end result of that day.
Even though it was Memorial Day weekend and Monday was a holiday, the crew showed up in the morning to start polishing the floors. This is when the first delay came - they ran out of something (can't remember the name of the chemical now) and all the stores/suppliers were closed over the holiday, so they had to stop for the day. Then, we had a bunch of storms come through, and the crew discovered that my third floor balcony door was leaking! It was impossible to stain the floor properly while it continued getting wet from the rain. Tony was very responsive and communicative throughout the whole time and alerted me to issues as soon as they arose. This made for an incredibly efficient project. On Tuesday they resumed the job with all the supplies on hand and were able to complete the area near the balcony door as it became sufficiently dry in between the rain storms. Wednesday night they were done and the newly covered floors were drying. Exactly six days, four if you don't count the weekend when they didn't work. After the floors were dry, they came back on Friday to put the furniture back in place.
I loved the end result! The new floors matched so perfectly with my existing wood floors in the living / dining/kitchen areas that I wouldn't be able to tell that they weren't there from the beginning. The whole look and feel of the place changed (for the better, the much better). And of course I love not having to look at that nasty carpet anymore!
While this was relatively minor compared to all the things they did great, I wanted to mention that they could have done a better job of putting the furniture back. When all was said and done, I noticed a large scratch on my bed, which I'm not hugely upset about because the bed is starting to get old, but it still has quite a few years left and I certainly would have preferred it without the scratch... Also, when they put the TV stand back together, they didn't put any of the shelves or partitions back in - I know they were ready to be done, but that's just sloppy (this is why I knocked "Professionalism" down a "B"). Now I have to take it completely apart again so I can put back the missing shelves and partitions (not being the one to take it apart in the beginning I'm not sure I know how to put it back together actually!). On the other hand, when they put the first floor furniture back in the room, they didn't follow our original arrangement and we actually like the new one better, so kept it that way! So, all in all, great work, with some minor improvements recommended.
