To Chris Fry, Pablo Angulo, Nancy Fry, and entire Dovetail Builders team Thank you. Thank you for enabling our new family to live our dream?no more, no less. You have thoroughly transformed our virgin 1970 custom-built ranch into our forever home with a spectacular kitchen, a stunning master suite, and fully updated infrastructure. Thank you for your consistently high standards of professionalism, performance, quality and integrity. Proof? You were our first and only choice for this massive remodel in 2013, as a return engagement following an excellent kitchen and bath remodel at another house 15 years prior. More proof? Two close friends each hired Dovetail for their own projects so far, having seen your work on our project. Thank you for my daily entertainment?even after 18 months? of: ?I LOVE our bathroom!?, ?Wow! This place is a resort!?, and ?I still can?t believe we get to live here!? Under your wise leadership, Chris, the Dovetail Builders team?s reputation as a first class General Contractor remains well-deserved and secure. After all is said and done, thank you for being our trusted advisor and our friend. Congratulations and all best wishes for your continued success.

They initially came to meet with me regarding the work to be done. I repeatedly requested a bid or cost estimate. They would not give one stating "you never know what you might find." I was warned by my architect they were on the expensive side. The quality of the work they did was very good. I received what I thought was the final invoice for $7848.54. Both our architect and I thought that was the final bill. The quality of the work was good. The bill was expensive but somewhat expected. I then spent the next three to four weeks trying to get my house key back. Finally I had my architect call to get the key back. I did receive the key but also got another invoice for an additional approximately $3000. This included invoices from the window subcontractor for $210 and another from a roofing subcontractor for an additional ~$1300 for "time and materials to fabricate and install full metal chimney cricket, rolloff and tin shingles at 2-chimney chases, includes removal and re-nstallation of shingles as required." I did not so much have a problem with the subcontractors' bills, but did not expect them. What did Dovetail do? The additional Dovetail bill included charges of $105 ( for the call with the architect for the key and for taking the key to the architect) for me to get my key back! They had several charges for "correspondences" and calls. Some of these were for $70 and were essentially clicking an email. Some of the calls were quite brief. I made it clear I felt the charges were unreasonable and paying at or around $10000 to put siding on two 4-5 foot chimneys, caulk two windows and relatively minimal drywall work was unreasonable. I met with the owner to express my views and to inform them I would pay their bills but never use them again. Nor would we suggest our architect or friends use them because of their practices. After my meeting, they did remove some charges (a few hundred dollars), but it took my getting angry to have any action taken. The owner continued to maintain there was nothing wrong with their approach and refused to acknowledge my opinion the bill was padded with inappropriate additional charges. He seemed to have a major chip on his shoulder that lawyers get to charge for their time. I'm not a lawyer. It was my error to move forward with a contractor who refused to give a bid for a job. A mistake I will not make again. Unfortunately, their business practices overshadow the work. They charge WAY TOO much for organizing the subcontractors; SO much so that their work loses value to the homeowner.
Description of Work: They were brought in by our architect to replace siding on two chimneys and, some repairs to a corner of one closet ceiling with drywall replacement, and recaulk two windows. The painting of the new Hardy plank siding was done by someone else.
