Energy Efficiency Auditing
Direct Energy, a supplier of gas and electricity, runs a very interesting scam. They contracted us to receive natural gas at a FIXED and GUARANTEED rat for two years that was initially lower than the local gas utility. After two months, they changed the name of the company without notifying us, and then changed our contract to a VARIABLE COST (rate can now be changed by them every month) without any notification or permission, and without being listed on the monthly utility bill. Thus, for 18 months we were being chared up to 100% more than we would have been charged by the utility company itself. Although our gas bills seemed very high, there was no real way to know that this scam was being perpetrated. Absolutely, do not contract NATURAL GAS or ELECTRICITY though this dishonest and disreputable company.
