I recently engaged the services of David Ferrari, a contractor for home repair and renovation, on a $10,000 bathroom renovation. This project was coded as a 2 to 3 week project that included getting the bathroom and building it. After getting a proposal it was agreed that 1/3 payment would be made up front, 1/3 in week two, and the last remaining third at the completion of the project. After my 2nd payment work significantly declined. He started failing to answer phone calls, return text messages and claimed he couldn't seem to get any of his workers to show up to do more work. In fact, nearly 3 weeks went by without any work getting done. An entire week went by without any return phone call after delays. When workers were showing up they were waiting on him to deliver materials but he never came nor did he answer their calls. He claimed that my second check was going to buy much of my materials such as tub, tile, fixtures etc. Despite, my requests, none of these materials ever got delivered nor did I receive any receipts.During this process we went on vacation for a week expecting to come home to a completed bathroom. All that was accomplished was putting up walls and painting. This was week 4. My neighbors confirmed that workers only came 2 days and the contractor told me they spent 4 days there, which proved to be a lie.One delay he cited was that he could not get the plumber to our home. Once we got the plumber to our home on our own efforts, David Ferrari refused to answer calls and bring any materials so we can get that part of the job done. After eight weeks into the project and two thirds of the money spent we did not have nearly half the work done. Two independent contractors came and confirmed that money spent did not equate to progress made by a significant margin.Anytime we asked him to deliver materials we avoided us. Furthermore, when we would ask how much something would cost the amounts he gave us were incorrect when we verified elsewhere. His workers also cited weeks later that they had not been paid for any of the work related to our project. It became clear that the money we gave him never got spent on work towards our renovation. At the end of eight weeks,we terminated our work with him. We are currently seeking restitution and return of funds and accounting of money spent. He has since dropped off only a few materials leaving thousands of dollars unaccounted for(approximately $3,500). A letter sent asked for an accounting of all money spent, copies of receipts and providing supplies that he told us he paid for with our 2nd check. I my last attempt to reason with him I gave him an account of what we paid him and a summary of expenses occurred clearly outlining the difference in what was owed. He has not responded.Misuse of funds and poor management of this project have led us to believe that we have been victimized by his services. I would encourage any potential customer to reconsider using his service and to find alternative contractors to work with.
