Two foundation companies said nothing was wrong with my foundation, so I relayed that information to Clouse and asked them to repair the bubble and refinish the entire floor. They claimed they were too busy and would "get back to me later". They never did, so I hired Joe Floors and they did a terrific job.
I think the lesson here is that Clouse was very eager to run away from their previous project on the worry that I might accuse them of poor workmanship. Even when I was fully prepared to pay for the repair and hire them for another project, they couldn't wait to get away from something that might be regarded as their problem. Having seen their behavior on something they merely worried might be regarded as their problem, how would they behave if they really did build something defective?
It's too bad: I am sorry to lose them as a provider.
guarantee excellent workmanship and professionalism, but they don?t deliver. The multitude of problems we encountered included: (a) their workers breaking a very expensive art glass piece; (b) improperly applying the wax, resulting in a plastic-like finish; (c) applying the stain so sloppily that we had to have our painting contractor repaint the baseboards, door casings and balusters; and (d) ignoring our repeated requests to remedy the problems they caused. Read your contract carefully, as there is a
reason Clouse Floors expressly tries to limit the customer's damages and remedies.
Not only was the work unprofessional and substandard, Dan Tremble and Clouse Floors completely mishandled our requests
to rectify the problems in an amicable manner.
The vacuum equipment is loud in an empty room, so a homeowner will probably find something else to do while the work is proceeding. With the work crew, we were completely comfortable having them in our home for a week. Gave the lead a key (promptly returned at job close) and let them lock up when they were finished.
Most of the house was sanded in the first day, and repairs completed the second day. The second day the floors were covered with wood filler, and re-sanded. I was not pleased at seeing wood filler. This was a step that not been explained ahead of time. It generally helps preventing bleed-back of old finished from between the boards when the first finish coat is applied. Turned out fine, be aware that it may be required on a very old floor. At the end of day 2, the lead created several different stained sections to pick a final color. Day 3 was the initial seal coat with day 4 being the final. The final coat needs to dry 24 hours and you should wait about a week before putting the furniture back in the rooms.
We are very pleased with the wood floors. It is certainly the best value for improving the value of the house to date. A little bit of money for a dramatic impact.
