CLOCK COUNTRY

Clock Repair

About us

We offer service, repair, relocation & storage of most types & makes of antique & modern clocks including on-site (in-home service) of floor clocks & very large wall clocks (grandfather clocks & jewelers regulators). We see clients by appointment so that we can give the utmost attention to estimating the cost of services while you wait (I am the one who will inspect your clock for estimate & perform the repairs). We do all mechanism service & repair on premises & only outsource major cabinet refinishing to a highly qualified & trusted re-finisher that we have worked with for over 16 years. Please feel free to call with any questions, we welcome your inquiries concerning our services. Our business has been built from the ground up by "word of mouth" from our satisfied clients. WE DO NOT ADVERTISE. Our growing list of satisfied customers & their referrals has kept us more than busy for over 3 decades & we believe is testament to our hard earned reputation. While other shops have closed over the last decade or so for a variety of reasons, our services have never been in more demand & in fact, we have recently doubled our working shop space to 3000 sq ft to accommodate the increased demand for service & storage of floor clocks (grandfather clocks). Please, all we ask is that you call prior to coming out. We are for the most part, a one man operation so when I am called out on service calls (2 days out of the 5 day work week) the shop will be closed. I update our answering service daily so you will know when I am out on calls. If you do get the answering service, please leave a message, I may be busy with a client & will do my best to return your call ASAP. I am always available on Mondays & usually know our schedule for the week by Monday afternoon.

Sligh Clock Co. made some of the best modern clocks around but used the same source for clock movements as any other manufacturer. The great part is that even though Sligh is no longer building clocks, replacement mechanisms made better than the originals are still available so now your clock is even better than when it was new in the 1980s. Description of Work: I recently moved and found that a grandfather clock my father had made would no longer function. I had Clock Country come out and look at it. The 30-year-old mechanism needed to be replaced entirely. They took my clock back to their workshop and returned it to me, with the new mechanism, in a couple of weeks. It's been keeping good time ever since.

Steve from Clock Country responded within a few hours to my Angie's List email inquiry, and we had a service call scheduled for two days later. He arrived promptly within the service window he had offered. We have a grandfather clock that was built from a kit by a family member 25 years ago. It has a solid wood case that's over six feet tall--there's no way I was going to haul that somewhere, so I really appreciate that he'll do house calls for the large clocks. After a thorough inspection, he offered a maintenance service instead of rebuilding the movement. So I also appreciate that he advocated a service that was 1/5th the cost of a rebuild--and the clock is ticking away happily. Yet one more thing I appreciate about Steve is how patient he was with my very friendly Yellow Lab who had just had surgery. He was so patient with my dog, a very important family member, and didn't seem to mind at all the fact that he had a dog nose in his back every 10 seconds. Our dog gets very upset when he's put away when people are at the house, so it was very nice to not have to sequester him away during the repair. I will definitely call Steve when it comes time for the inevitable next repair and maintenance that this family heirloom will require.
Description of Work: Steve from Clock Country disassembled the clock cabinet and inspected the movement, weights, and chimes. He then determined that a rebuild wasn't yet necessary, so he lubricated the movement and ensured the clock performed properly. Then he put the cabinet back together and returned the clock to its position against the wall.

It was a pleasure to meet you & (Member name removed) and be given the opportunity to service an excellently assembled large kit style floor clock. Probably one of the best of its type in quality, the builders of it did a fine job. Next time I will be sure to bring treats for the 4 legged fella.

We first called Clock Country when we had a weight come apart during winding on our grandmother clock. My wife called Clock Country and talked to Scott, he assured her that this was not a big problem and he could take care of it. According to Scott, our timing was great as he was going to be in the area within a few days and could fit us in his schedule. My wife told him that we also wanted to have our grandfather clock serviced and would like to have him look at out mantle clock that was not working. He quoted a price of $137 for a service call that included routine maintenance of one clock. Another company had quote $250 just to come out. Scott arrived at the time that he had scheduled. He repaired and serviced the grandmother clock and went on the service the grandfather clock. Through all this it was obvious that he was very thorough and completely checked out the clocks. He then went on to the mantle clock. When doing this he discovered an antique sardine can opener inside the clock cabinet. We knew it was there, but thought it was a clock key that maybe didn't quite go with the clock. Turned out that the can opener was from the same time era as the clock, 1930's. Scott loves what he does and loves to inform his customers about the history behind their timepieces. We will definitely call him when it is time for service again.
Description of Work: Scott repaired and serviced a grandmother clock, serviced a grandfather clock, and evaluated a non working mantle clock for possible repair.

See above description of service performed. P.S. There was a slight problem about a week after completion and the clock stopped. One call to Steve, and he came out the next day and found and fixed the problem. Clock running fine since then. (Obviously, no charge for the second vist under the warranty.)
Description of Work: Steve Woodruff, ( the owner of "Clock Country" ) is truly a Professional, and obviously loves his wor and shows immense pride in his work. He was able to put our 40 year old Grandfather Clock back in "like new" condition, and provided a beautiful new pendulum for us, since the wrong smaller pendulum had been put on by an inexperienced clock repair person in the past. He also reconditioned and replaced several parts that had caused the clock to stop working properly. Steve enjoyed explaining every step he took in brining our clock up to date and took the time to answer all our questions. His work included a one year warranty, and I am positive that he will respond immediately if anything should go wrong, but I feel very sure that nothing will go wrong for a very long time. I enjoyed meeting Steve, and am almost sorry that we probably won't see him again for a few years, because the clock is owrking perfectly and looks and sounds like a new clock. I highly recommend "Clock Country" and we feel that the cost was well worth "getting our Grandfather's Clock back in loke-new condition ! " Jay Leiber Houston, TX.

Customer's clock was a real challenge due to some previous work performed by inexperienced technicians trying to make this clock work with the wrong type of pendulum for this particular clock movement. 30+ years of being a warranty service shop for many of the American manufacturers of floor clocks has allowed us to keep in stock, older style quality replacement parts that are hard to come by these days. Warranty service is our priority in our shop & with service calls, so a trip or two out to make adjustments to make sure the clock is performing properly was our pleasure & I am looking forward to seeing you again in a few years for routine maintenance.

Clock Country is a one man shop that services and repairs mechanical clocks - wall clocks, mantle clocks and grandfather clocks. Much of his work is completed in customer's homes when the clocks cannot be moved so you have to call and make an appointment to bring clocks to his shop. We purchased our clock in Germany in 1974 and moved it a dozen times over the years. It had not been properly serviced and had become severly corroded and bound up. When I brought the clock to the shop, Steve expertly removed the movement from the case and immediately identified the German manufacturer by name and told me that this maker went out of business in the mid 1980's so parts were not readily available. He expertly inspected the clock and identified the parts that could be repaired and those that would have to be replaced. He descibed how he would treat the corrosion and told me that he would keep the clock in his shop for three weeks after the repair to ensure that the clocj was fully operational. Steve gave me a firm written estimate and noted that it would take six to eight weeks to complete the repair. I called after 8 weeks and was told that the music roll that operates the chimes in the clock was too corroded to be functional but he had located a replacement part in another shop out of state. The repair was ultimately completed in 12 weeks for the price originally quoted and is fully functional, including all three chimes. We are once again enjoying this family heirloom clock that was our first major purchase as a young family. Clock country went above and beyond to repair this clock that had been ignored for several years. The price was fair and reasonable and the extra time needed to find the proper parts for a clock that is no longer manufactured was well worth the wait.

It was our pleasure to bring this clock back to life, a nice clock with a beautiful chime. Modern clock movements that are over 30 years old with heavy corrosion & out of production do present a bit of a challenge when it comes to locating parts but our decades of being in business has allowed us to amass a great deal of our own parts & good contacts with out-of-state shops & suppliers that have what we need when we can't locate it in-house.

The work was outstanding but not cheap. All of the wind up clocks required normal maintenance but two also required additional repairs. Steve is an old school master of these types of clocks and he did a excellent job. On the battery operated clocks, the cost of repair exceeded the cost of replacing the operating units, so Steve had to install a new and better unit in each. The wind up clocks are "keepsakes" so the cost is not unexpected, the battery operated units were surprisingly inexpensive to replace. Overall, the job is complete and we are completely satisfied.

It went very well. He arrived on time and went right to work. He had a very pleasant personality and was very eager and comfortable explaining what he was doing and why. By the time he was finished, I had a much better understanding of the clock and its workings. I also felt that we had made a good investment with our purchase of that particular clock. I told him that the previous repairman had told us that the clock would "need to go into the shop for a thorough overhaul" and he said that was unnecessary. I appreciated that. When he left, I had his card and felt that he would answer any questions that may arise. I did have a question the next day, called, and received on the mark advice. No problems ....... Again, I am happy with the work performed.
Description of Work: Our grandfather clock had stopped working, and we had previously used another individual, recommended by the store of purchase, and the clock had not made it one year. Steve came out, and seemed to be truly knowledgeable and professional in his understanding of the workings of the clock. He provided a history of the company (manufacturer) of our clock and thoroughly explained how it works and exactly what he was doing to correct why it may have stopped. The clock has not lost one minute since he was here. He was even kind enough to give me a key that would work on an old clock that was manufactured in the 1940s by my wife's dad (key had been lost, and the clock was of sentimental value to her)........not something you see from many people these days. I highly recommend his work.

Absolutely wonderful. This is the second time he has come to the house to install and give a tune up to all the clocks.
Description of Work: Steve loves his work. He has restored 5 clocks that belonged to my deceased mother. He tells you if it is not worth spending the money to fix them. He also installs them in your home and discusses how they should be wound. Before I used a very expensive company that only cared how much money you shelled out. Steve is the real thing.

I do not know if my clock is actually fixed as I only picked it up today. I placed the clock for repair on 4-12-06, and was not told I could pick it up until 5-25-06. I left 6 calls during this period and was given 6 different indications as to when it would be ready. I consider this entirely too long according to the answers I was given. On 4-26-06, I was told the clock would probably be ready the following week. I chose this company because it was listed as an ''A''.

We do our best but alas, cannot please everyone. A $40.00 service would not have included "cleaning", maybe an oil & adjust?? We have never promised a "guaranteed time of repair", that is something that is only decided once the clock has run properly for over a two week period with no problems. Kind of like the old saying, "no wine is ready before its time." Quality control is the primary focus & cannot be dictated by a customers desire to have the work completed in "their time frame".

Actually, we pick-up & deliver customer's clocks through Ann's Fine Gifts http://www.annsfinegifts.com/ at no additional charge to the customer (there is a deposit required which is applied 100% toward approved repairs). This is a relationship we started with Ann & Bill McClintock over 25 years ago & they are the only retailer that we have ever had this arrangement with (we do not do work with/for other jewelry shops, watch or clock shops).
