Bartlett Tree Experts has been providing scientific tree care since 1907. A 3rd generation, family owned business, our mission is the maintenance and care of the health and beauty of trees and shrubs. We are an international organization, with offices in Canada, England and Ireland. Our Research Laboratories advises us about the latest technological advances in arboriculture and assists our arborists with training updates. The laboratory networks with professionals at universities, government agencies, and allied industry groups. This enables us to provide state-of-the art procedures and techniques to our clients. Our arborists consult with other professionals for common projects and community interests. Our unique position in the green industry helps us further arboriculture as a science and a profession. They were easy to schedule with and prompt to arrive. They provided clear information on how to treat the trees and the cost to do so. The cost of the evaluation goes towards the cost of the tree removal.

It was pretty expensive because they did a lot of stuff. There were a variety of things that were wrong that needed fixed and so they have fixed them. All the shrubs looks so much better. The work that they do is good and I really like them and they come out and check and talk to me.

I'd give them a D. I didn't compare prices so I don't know. After 6 months, I finally got the bill resolved. After I was 90 days passed through, they kept sending me pass-through notices and didn't give me the credit that the guy did. They stood me up once. The guy said he would take $200 off. They billed me for the full amount and it took probably a dozen phone calls and e-mails to get him to give me back that $200. Quality was probably fine but I never did get a copy of my report which I asked for. They should have better communication and responsiveness. Telling me that they will give me a credit and then not honoring it is pretty bad. Standing me up when I have to take off a day of work is pretty bad.

I would have no hesitation in using Bartlett again. Their point contact arborist was prompt, professional and knowledgeable. We had problems scheduling service, because of the weather, but he was flexible and worked with us to ensure that the work could be carried out at the best convenient time following re-schedules. He supervised the crew when they arrived. They all showed up in clean and well maintained vehicles. They all wore uniforms, were clean,polite and responsive to our needs. It was a stress free experience and the job got done right the first time with no damage to other parts of the property.

This was the second place we called to get an estimate. They were very quick to schedule an appointment and were on time. Walked around with my husband to talk about what we were wanted and what the previous home owners had done to maintain the trees. They gave us a rough estimate on spot and then an official estimate later that day. After comparing the two estimates and the work necessary we found Bartlett to be cheaper but questioned the pricing on one of the trees. They negotiated a price that was reasonable since that one particular tree didn't need quite so much work. On the day of the appointment, they showed up and had only come up to the door so we could move our vehicles otherwise they just went to work. The main guy supervising was very professional and was very open to my husband watching and any on the spot requests for the tree removals. They worked quickly and good about cleaning up debris as they went. Minimized the time they had the tree shredder on since it was early in the morning for minimal disruption to the neighbors. Overall, very professional, punctual and friendly! Will definitely be using their services to maintain the trees in the future. The only thing not done as much as we would have liked is the tree in our backyard. They could not get the boom to maneuver over the house and chimney and could not reach from the roof parts of the tree. The work required to thin out the tree was nothing short of climbing the tree. Just as well the tree does reach to our surrounding neighbors yards so might have to do a follow up to get that tree cleaned up more to improve light into our backyard.

"Thank you very kindly for the feedback. We apologize for any deficiencies in the way we pruned your beautiful, historic tree. The area where it appears we pruned too much was directly over a very busy street; we prund out a bigger than normal selection in order further to reduce the risk of a limb falling into the street. No, indeed we do not paint cuts. There have now been over half a dozen peer-reviewed studies concluding that painting cuts is unnecessary and in most cases does more harm than good. Pruning sealant can actually trap in moisture and spores, speeding up decay and interfering with the tree's natural callusing mechanism. (One notable exception is to help reduce the risk of the spread of oak wilt in places such as South Central Texas, but this diseases has not yet reached epidemic levels in the Houston area.) We sincerely hope that this new information has a bearing on your level of satisfaction with our work and that you will keep us in mind for additional care to your tree. Thanks!"

I have used them many times. They are very good. I would rate them highly. They aren't as good about getting back with you to schedule, we had an issue with that, but we worked through it. I will use them again.

Bartlett generally did good work but has been sometimes frustrating to work with
- Great expertise. Their advisors are very knowledgeable and make good recommendations
- The fertilization service guys are courteous and on time, and seem to do good work
- Execution on other services was not always great.
-- The crews did not also speak good English and did not understand what was to be done.
-- For a tree removal project, we were surprised when the crew indicated that they were not going to remove the stump. We had to find and pay a different service for this
-- We also found that we paid a lot more than our next door neighbors who had a very similar tree removed
-- And more recently, a fertilizing tech showed up when I was home and he fertilized our trees but my wife later that day told me she had previously told the dispatcher that we did not want to use the service any more.
In fact my wife had communicated with the home office her frustration with the tree removal events and was disappointed to have never heard back from them.
We will be using a different tree service in the future.

Previous tree 'experts' have basically butchered my oaks, leaving them poorly shaped.
Joseph Keefe (Bartlett) gave a thorough explanation on the work to be done and addressed my concerns with over pruning (I prefer my trees fuller). The crew was experienced and Joseph showed up shortly after they set up, informed the crew of what I didn't want, and supervised the job. So no salesman to get your business and then be on his way, with an uninformed crew showing up to 'do what they do'.
Bartlett trimmed and pruned, removing all deadwood, and all canopy growing over the house, without removing major branches or mis-shaping the trees any further. No damage due to falling branches, very good clean up.
Joseph has called on occasion (as necessary) to discuss local occurring tree problems to keep me informed and observant.
I won't use anyone else as long as Barlett is available.

They came back about 3 months later and treated it again.
It seems to be hanging in there.

Went perfectly. Met with arborist 3 weeks ago and reviewed work to be done and schedule for same. Met with crew as they started work and it was preformed perfectly. I have the best looking large oaks on the block. They brought a chipper with them to make a neat job and cleaned up the yard afterward.

Jason is our "tree guy" - he comes out an periodically inspects the trees. The tree in front was suffering from canker and the tree in back got struck by lightning. Both trees are really important to the property and to us. Jason is really knowledgeable, professional and is really interested in preserving the trees. We have signed up for a program that runs us about 700 a year. But it is worth it for us. The trees have improved since they have been seen to by Bartlett. It is a little expensive, but they inject the soil with fertilizer twice a year, and rot-rot protection - and they spray for aphids - they always wear hardhats, gloves, eye-protection and professional gear. So we figure its about 60 a month to take care of the property - and it seems well worth it to us. We think we are getting our money's worth.
