IN September 2016, I asked Allied Powder Coating if they could remove rust and recoat my four foot outdoor metal sculpture/fountain. They did a nice job arranging to pick it up, completed work in a few weeks, and delivered it back to our home in a relatively efficient manner. Their work on the fountain was good not great. Evidently, they try to get off as much rust as possible, but there is no attempt to repair any damage caused by the rust, therefore some of the fountain surfaces were not smooth. HOWEVER, after several weeks, rust began to appear on my newly coated sculpture fountain. At six weeks, I asked them what to do. Initially, they told me to use a product named Simple Green which did no good. At my next call, they asked for pictures. After I sent pictures that showed considerable spreading rust at 8 weeks after their work was done, they stopped answering all emails and calls. Very unhappy with Allied Powder Coating.

Work was excellent, but took 7 weeks due to back order of sling material. Because of the time it took to complete job, I was given a discount. Very pleased with the result.

Looked nice when I got it back. After about 6 months however the edges around many of the joints on multiple parts  were showing rust signs and now a year later, I am preparing again to have many of the parts disassembled to get them refinished again since the rust spots are increasing.

In fairness, and after talking with others, the places where it is rusting are places it might have been difficult to get the coating on thick enough or something like that. This is the reason for the 'C' grading.

My primary complaint is that I was relying on them to provide a lasting job and if it couldn't be done then they should have told me so up front. Then I could have made the decision of how to proceed before I had them coated and reassembled.

I haven't reached back out the them to complain or correct since the bulk of my time and cost is really in assembly and disassembly and don't want to risk having another bad experience.

I found people willing to the work cheaper, but they had a good reputation so I went with them anyways since the disassemble/reassemble was such an issue. When also combined with the cost of having to have it done again, this is why the price grade is a 'D'.

If my next project is a simpler part then I would consider using them again.

All in all, the job went great.  The sales and field team were all very professional, courteous and did everything right to make me a satisfied customer.  The rails and gate look fantastic!  I would definitely use them again in the future.

Price was good; Pickup was good; Delivery took somewhat longer as discussed; Quality of recoating was good. However: The end-caps on the arm chairs are the wrong size, at delivery we mentioned it and delivery folks made picture. Then more then 2 weeks later we called as did not hear anything about it. Then we discussed it with customer service and they checked; the end-caps of our furniture are not available anymore, so they decided to put others on it. They should have called us, to make this decision. The delivery folks also forgot to give us the old caps etc.; they got later delivered by mail.
Response from Allied Powder Coating
"Dear Mr. [member name removed], I must apologize for this mishap. Although it is stated in documentation that we reserve the right to switch out hardware/end caps if warranted, I do agree that some verbal notice would have been appreciated. That being the case, your situation will be brought up at our next meeting to improve on this process. Once again, apologize for our lapse. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. And we are glad you are enjoying your furniture now."

We are very pleased with the refreshed patio furniture. It has been about 1-1/2 years since we had the service performed, and the coating is wearing well, and still feels and quot;waxy, and quot; even though we ourselves have not yet treated it with the recommended occasional new coat of auto wax. We changed coating colors, and you would never know. Pick up and drop off were handled well. Job completed in a timely manner.

Rust rust rust.  Do not waste your time or money with Allied.  They do not deal with rust.  Salesman implied that within 6 months that if you see rust it will be under warranty.  Lies.  Called them on 4/3/14 and they said rust is not covered.  their recommendation is to wax it.  BS.  Wax does not do anything to rust.  Buy new furniture.  it will be cheaper in the long run.
Response from Allied Powder Coating
"Good day Mr. [removed member name], I am very sorry to hear about your experience with us. You are correct that we abrasive-blast your furniture down to its original metal. This not only removes surface rust, but it also creates a deeper anchor pattern for the powder coating to bond to. However, due to the manufacturing and construction of these pieces, there are limitations as to how far the blasting and coating can reach. Every piece of furniture is different. Over time, moisture will permeate through any seams, crevices, or pinholes that the furniture inevitably has. Rust seepage will occur from these areas due to the nature of metal furniture construction. This rust seepage, if left unattended, will eventually yield rust stains appearing on top of properly coated metal substrates. Continued neglect of these issues will result in rust penetration under the coating which will lead to coating failures. The duration of time it takes for these issues to develop is dependent upon the environment which the furniture is subjected. To avoid this problem, we strongly recommend proper care and maintenance as such as washing & waxing several times a year. In fact, as stated in our warranty package, the first waxing should be performed in the first 30 days to greatly inhibit the rusting process. Unfortunately, all metal inherently rusts. But there are ways to slow it down. Specific to your situation, the rust seepage has been cleaned away first. Then the wax should be applied to trap the seepage in and keep the moisture from further exposure. I am very sorry that you felt that you were lied to. We do our best to write and deliver warranty documents that clearly define the limitations of our work. As with all outside products, there will need to be some additional care given to elongate their life due to the harsh weather conditions of South Texas. Please see the part of the Maintenance Instructions for metal care. Excerpt from our Maintenance Instructions… “To perform this process, a clear automobile wax (Liquid Spray Wax – No Streak Formula) should be liberally applied to the frame giving particular attention to all joints and crevices. The wax should be removed following the wax manufacturer’s instructions. Frames should be routinely washed with a mild solution of clear, chlorine-free, laundry detergent and warm water. For steel and wrought iron furniture, Allied recommends waxing the furniture per the instructions above following every cleaning. If rust spots appear due to chips or scratches, use fine grade sandpaper to clean and then lightly touch up the area with a matching rust resistant paint. Periodically replacing any worn plastic feet inserts will also help prevent rust stains on your patio surface….”"

Our aluminum patio furntiure was 8 years old and the paint was flaking off most of the pieces. I called Allied to come out for an estimate and they showed up that day and provided the estimate for free. We were happy with the estimate and they picked up the furniture on Feb 4. The furniture was delivered back to my home today (so a quick 2 week turn-around) and it is gorgeous. From the initial call to the estimation to the final product, dealing with Allied was very painless with an amazing result.

From my first contact with Allied Powder Coating everyone has been polite, professional and answered all my questions. I really hesitated to have the wrought iron table and chairs powder coated because of the price, but when I checked to see what a new set would cost I felt that it was worth the expense. My furniture was picked up and delivered in a timely manner, and it looks beautiful. They left instructions for maintenance, so I'm hoping that with regular maintenance I won't have to have the furniture powder coated again for several years. I noted on their website that they offer a cleaning and maintenance service, so will probably try that to keep the furniture in good condition. I would definitely recommend this company to my friends.
Response from Allied Powder Coating
"Dear [member name removed], Thank you so much for your kind words. We strive to focus on customer service. On a separate note, you will soon realize that cleaning and waxing the furniture is not that timely. As mentioned in the instructions, be sure to give a little extra wax to the joints of the furniture as that this where moisture accumulates. Please let us know if you have any questions or need any advice about your outdoor set. Once again, thank you for sharing your experience."

I had a set of wrought irone patio furniture that was over 20 years old that needed powder coating. The company responded to my request of a quote within the week by sending one of their representatives to look at the furniture. The furniture was picked by and returned to me earlier than expected looking fantastic. I almost didn't recognize it!! I was very pleased with the service and quality of this company. Would recommend and use them again.
