The AirTap hot water heater heat pump has turned out to be a very expensive failure. Cost to purchase two years ago, $645 plus tax. Plus $250 to run a dedicated circuit. Plus a new water heater (recommended by Air Generate, the manufacturer), $457. Plus labor to install both. Replacement anode rod after two years (recommended by Air Generate), plus labor, over $200. Now the evaporator coil has failed at two years, three months (unreparable leak of coolant). Labor to replace, $125/hour. Cost of new coil: unknown, Air Generate has not yet replied. Electric bill savings over the 27 months, $10-15 per month, total $270-300. Net loss to me, more than $1,500 dollars so far. And the AirTap is not currently operating due to the coil leak. Save your money, invest in solar panels, fluourescent or LED bulbs, or better insulation in your home.
Description of Work: I purchased an Air Generate Air Tap hot water heater heat pump, had a dedicated circuit installed to power it, put in a new hot water heater for it to heat, and had both installed.
