Description of Work: They did a horrible job and damaged furniture in my house. We had to have things done over. We had to fight with them to get things done. I still have problems. We threatened legal action and finally got things resolved as best we could. I would never use that company again. People need to read all the reviews about them. They are all negative. I was having to teach their workers how to install flooring and carpeting. The workers were clueless and the company did not care.

This project affected every area of my home so planning and coordination was critical. It was essential for me to maintain a busy work schedule outside the house while the ABF team transformed the living space within. In addition, I was able to enjoy one stop shopping and avoid running all over town in search of materials. The transformation was complete in five weeks - on time, to spec and within budget. It was not necessary to move into a hotel or camp with friends. I am a HAPPY CUSTOMER! We started by defining the scope of the project and selecting the materials. In one afternoon, floor tile, wood laminate and carpet were selected. Custom vanities were designed, counter top materials chosen, and shower and tub tiles were selected. The store is stocked with an array of sample materials offering adequate choice and price. We also scheduled painting both bathrooms and the master bedroom. Crown molding was added in the master bath and bedroom. A proposal was presented that detailed the work and price breakdown. David, my ABF Project Manager, suggested a tile pattern using two sizes of tile. The finished effect was outstanding! We used this pattern on tile floors for the kitchen, bathrooms and laundry room. Laminate wood replaced old carpet in the living room, dining area, study and entry. The three bedrooms were re-carpeted. We replaced the master bath jetted tub with a soaking tub and refinished the original bath tub in the hall bathroom. The shower door was replaced by a beautiful frameless door. I provided plumbing and lighting fixtures that the ABF team installed. The installation team is cross functional and a certified plumber and certified electrician were called in as required. The floor installer and his helper were like human machines! They demolished floors and showers and moved household belongings from one place to the next to keep the job moving. They worked clean by covering and taping to protect my belongings but also vacuumed to keep the tile and concrete dust contained. They cleaned up after each task and before leaving each day. The floor installer set the pace for the job and maintained an aggressive schedule. His multi-functional skills alleviated down time, waiting for an electrician or plumber to complete minor tasks, so he could progress with his work. He is an accomplished craftsman and handyman. He tiled floors and showers, and laid laminate floor. The cuts, shaping and finish of tile and wood are excellent quality. Lines are straight and finishes clean and neat. Detail and perfection are his strength. The electrician was outstanding! That man and his helpers installed a ceiling fan in the master bath that was a monumental task. Other contractors were unwilling to accept this challenge. My thirteen year desire for a ceiling fan has finally been fulfilled!!! May I add, he installed updated lighting in the kitchen, dining room, entry hall and hall-ways. He made several suggestions for placement and types of fixtures that made a pivotal difference in the kitchen and both bathrooms. The cabinet maker is an artisan! Skill, material and innovation do not disappoint. I love my new drawers and cabinets!!!! The ABF team was professional in every way. They worked steady, did not waste time and were self-starters. Work areas, inside and outside, were neat and clean. The Project Manager called or stopped by each day to review the activity and answer any questions. We executed a successful project without incident or dissatisfaction.
Description of Work: Replaced all floors throughout my house (2000 sq. ft.). Materials included tile, laminate and carpet. In addition, both bathrooms were completely remodeled with new vanities, tile, lighting and plumbing fixtures.

My initial contact was with David Phelps, in their store on Hwy 6. He was very helpful and spent a lot of time with me discussing the work that I wanted done and the materials that would best meet my needs, not to mention several trips to my home. He had great ideas and helped me get the projects done with minimal expenditures. David was always on time and I never felt rushed when meeting with him. The slide out shelves were made and installed by their cabinet maker Fernando. Most of my dealings were with Roy, who was very professional and courteous. Roy's work was beautiful and very timely. He made several trips to my home for measuring and installation. I was absolutely amazed at how nicely it all turned out. The glass cabinet door is beautiful and looks as if it had always been there., it matches my cabinetry perfectly. It changed the looks of my kitchen, a remodel for minimal expense. The slide out shelves show beautiful craftmanship and work great for me. I did lose a small amount of space in the cabinets, but the storage space that I do have is 100% accessible. For the first time in 10 years I don't have to stoop and bend and get down on my knees to get to a hard to reach utensil or pan. I couldn't be more pleased with the results of the work done by " A Beautiful Floor". I would recommend this team to anyone. The quality of customer relations and crfatmanship and timeliness of the project exceeded my expectations.
Description of Work: Installed pull out shelves in lower kitchen cabinets and replaced upper cabinet door with glass door.

Didn't start the project on scheduled date. Project that should have taken a week at most ran over the course of several months. The granite countertops were chipped on corners when installed. They were repaired (only after I pointed it out). Granite countertop seam is not a first class job. Kitchen backsplash - good job. Tub surround tile job - good tile job but left extra grout in corners - too dry & hard to remove. Laminate floor - terrible job. To his credit, the owner had the floor reinstalled multiple times, however, if it had been done correctly the first time, or even the second time, this would have been unnecessary. Each installation caused disruption to my family. We couldn't use our kitchen. Each time they reinstalled the floor the interior of the home was covered with dust and dirt. Installers didn't clean float off baseboards. Floors still squeek in several places. One area in particular is really bad.
Description of Work: Replaced kitchen formica countertops with granite. Replaced kitchen backsplash. Removed tile floor and installed laminate flooring in living room, dining room and kitchen. Removed carpet and installed tile in master bath. Replaced tile in guest bath. Replaced tub surround with new tile in guest bath.

Response from A Beautiful FLOOR INC.
A Beautiful Floor has been in business since 1999 in North Houston, serving the neighborhoods of Copperfield, Hearthstone, Stone gate, Lakes of Eldgridge, Bear Creek and host of others. We average sales of over 1.2 million dollars annually, during the past 12 years we have had the privilege of serving over 1,500 customers, with roughly a 99% satisfaction rate. We haven’t been using Angie’s List and had no idea that a few unhappy customers have posted terrible and nasty reviews about their experiences with us. We are members of the BBB and have been with them since 1999 with an A+ business rating. We subscribe to the BBB member creed and put our customer interest before ours. Upon reviewing the posting posted ion Angie’s list from a few of our unhappy customers, we think it’s time to tell our side of the story. We do business the old fashioned way, we earn it. Our goal has been and always will be to serve in a fair and prompt manner. We work hard to achieve this by giving a fair price for products we offer and our services. We send out only quality technicians that are vetted, and supervise our projects, also we try addressing any customer issues that may arise in a timely manner. The nature of our business puts us in contact with all kinds of personalities. We strive hard to satisfy each individual we work with. For the most part we have been able to achieve this; because of this we have numerous repeat customers. Unfortunately, there have been a few times when no matter how hard we try, the customers still isn’t pleased. Case in point: The Member: The job for her was completed in June 2009, which is over 3 years ago. We wish that the member had been more prompt in posting her dissatisfaction with our service. The laminate floor selected by the member was a WITEX product (785 SQ. FT), bathroom tile work, granite countertops, electrical and plumbing. Upon initial completion of the project within the allotted time frame, the member was unhappy with the laminate floor and the original laminate installer, she also do had a list of punch out which is always expected in our line of work. The following is the email received from the member: I didn't hear from anyone regarding the repair of the tile in the master bath and the cleanup of the grout in the corners of the shower in the guest bath - I thought they were coming out this past Saturday? Also, there are squeaks in the laminate floor again and I noticed that one particular board is laid incorrectly (there is a wide gap between the boards). I am now making a formal request that you file a claim for defective product and then let me know what your company is going to do to resolve this ongoing problem. I request that these matters be resolved quickly so that I can pay the final amount due. A 2-week job is now going on 2 months. My life has been disrupted enough and I am sure you are ready to be done with this particular job. Please advice. Thank you, *Member 06/25/2009 09:53 To:**member's email AM cc Subject Re: Invoice - Kitchen work sure, that will be great, I need to bring you a product to maintain your floor and info on products to maintain your countertops and tile. this afternoon will be good ... or first thing in the morning give me a call thanks, David -----Original Message----- From: *Member's Email Sent: Thursday, June 25, 2009 09:50 AM To: 'A Beautiful Floor, Inc' Subject: Re: Invoice - Kitchen work David - I thought we were going to have a final walk-through? You must have Acrobat® Reader® installed to view the attachment. (See attached file: Inv_2007320_from_A_Beautifu.pdf) We contacted the manufacturer, to do a product warranty claim. Upon inspection they found nothing wrong with the product and subsequently denied the claim. As part of our customer satisfaction goal we removed the floor and reinstalled it with upgraded laminate floor underlayment to lessen the noise as a laminate floor is a floating floor. A Beautiful Floor made every attempt to be responsive to the customer complaints about the laminate floor. Since a laminate floor is a “floating floor” there is a certain amount of movement to be expected. The granite countertop quality issue was corrected, after the customer pointed it out. As is standard in the construction industry/remodeling industry there is always a punch out list of things a buyer or home owner recognizes that might have been missed during the process. That’s why we always encourage a walk through at the end of each project. Upon completion, the member personally thanked Mike for all his efforts to take care of her concerns. “We want to thank the member for her patronage and for bringing these concerns to our attention. We certainly do not wish to lose her as a valued customer if there is any way we can convince her to work

Read the other reviews, I wish I had. I used A Beautiful Floor based on the recommendation of a good friend at work. That was my first mistake. I needed a whole house renovation in order to update our house for sale. Mike came over and gave a verbal estimate of about $35,000. The next day the written estimate had grown to a little over $51,000. I trusted that this was a good price, and my realtor came up with a few changes on how to do things and reduced the price to about $48,000. Mike (the business owner) assured us that laminate was a good choice even with a swimming pool in the back yard. It is not. The final price wound up being about $55,000. Everything that the other reviewers have said, I experienced. Mike left the country a week after they started the job. David is an oaf and a buffoon. He is the most aggravating man I have ever dealt with. He never wants to accept responsibility for anything that the workers do, and he tries to make everything your fault, essentially calling you a liar. I could write a book about this horrible experience. Mike said the job would take about 2 1/2 weeks. It took over five weeks. It is probably as close as I have ever come to just quitting life and going off to live alone. The bottom line: DO NOT USE A BEAUTIFUL FLOOR FOR ANY OF YOUR WORK. The workmanship is OK at best, the price is exhorbitant, dealing with David will drive you crazy, they won't be finished anywhere near on time, they will want 60% down and then want more before the job is finished, and if you don't speak Spanish, you won't be able to communicate with at least half of the workers.
Description of Work: Install all new carpet. Install laminate flooring in the living room, family room, and office/library. Repaint all walls and refinish all the woodwork inside. Install granite countertops in all the bathrooms. Install new tile in all the bathrooms. Remodel the bathrooms with new bath tubs and new showers. Install new owner supplied fixtures in bathrooms and kitchen. Repaint and cleanup the outside of the house.

It was a horrible experience! Granite installation was done poorly and incorrectly. They didn't prepare a template in advance, but instead spent lots of time sawing at the granite in my driveway in order to try to get it to fit. The edges are bad and the joints are not smooth. They left an overhang near the frig so that it barely fits, and I'm afraid what will happen if I ever have to pull it out. They cut the sink hole in my kitchen using a hand saw and it was/is a mess. No line is straight. Granite dust was all over everything since they never covered the floor or my computer or the openings into the living room and dining room. They scratched the back door, refrigerator, and cabinets. The granite bar top was so unlevel that pens and things would roll off. After they finished, there were still screws in the driveway behind my car. And the main installer didn't speak English. When I called and told my sales person, Craig, that the granite around the sink didn't follow the lines of the sink, he said "in a perfect world" they might line up, but he didn't seem to think it was expected. Their carpenter (if you can call him that) installed thin wood strips at the bottom of the cabinets where the cabinets would meet the tile, but he didn't install them all straight. He also installed three corbels under the bar top to support the granite ledge, but he stained them a color that didn't match the other wood, and when I pointed it out to him, he said that was the best he could do. When I called Craig, he didn't come look, but told me he trusted his guy and it was the best he could do. Fortunately, I eventually convinced the carpenter to add some red, and he was able to get the color closer. Unfortunately, I don't think he installed the corbels correctly, which is likely why the bar top isn't level. I don't know if the tilers had ever installed tile before. They didn't leave spaces between tiles for the grout, and the tiles were all crooked. When I called Craig about this, he didn't come out to look. I ended up finding another tiler, who was surprised by how bad the first job was. He took it all down and redid the entire backsplash. I also found my own electrician because the one they sent wanted to install two wall switches so he wouldn't have to go into the attic to connect both sides of the under cabinet lighting. My own electrician happily went into the attic, and was able to do the job with only one wall switch that works for both sides. I have waited a long tme to write this, but after all this time, I still feel like people should be warned, so here it is. The job took way longer than it should have, and I had to work way harder to get something presentable than I should have. In the end, it still cost a lot of money to end up with an unprofessional job, and I am still having to look at it every day. It turns out the installers are not employed by ABF, but are contracted by them. I was told they had used the granite installer and carpenter for many years, which I thought was a good thing, until I saw their work. The people in the store are for making the sales, but I don't think they know much about construction, and I don't think they cared much about my problems during installation. I am surprised they are still in business. I will say that eventually they did replace my scratched refrigerator, although it took a long time and lots of calls to get that to happen, and they did deduct $300 off the final price. Frankly, I think they should have refunded all of it so I could have used the money to get it redone elsewhere.

We were happy with the products used, but the craftsmanship and overall workmanship was very poor. David oversaw the project and it was obvious he didn't know what he was doing or just simply didn't care. It seemed that he didn't take any of our concerns or complaints seriously. When my wife or I approached him about an issue he would just laugh it off. Several times we had to repeatedly ask him for help with an issue before he would respond. He was rarely on-site and I spent most of my time dealing with the sub-contractors myself. When he was on-site he seemed to have difficulty communicating with the sub-contractors. I might as well have hired them directly myself. For our tile floors David ordered the wrong grout product so once it was installed the color came out pink instead of a light beige. We had to argue with him that the color was incorrect when even the sub-contractors agreed with us. Around the edges of our walls instead of laying the tile underneath our floor trim and door trim, it was placed up against it and then grouted. This grouted the tile to the floor trim. I now cannot replace my floor trim without tearing up the grout. It was an obvious short cut and it looks like a short cut. In the kitchen, we had our counters replaced with granite. The granite is beautiful and we are happy with the product and color we chose. They used sheets of thick plywood to be placed underneath the granite for support. Now our countertops sit more than an inch higher than usual exposing unstained cabinets. This was never explained to us in the planning stages and so we did not realize this issue until after the countertop was installed. When they installed our new sink, they installed the sink between the plywood and granite. Which means if we need to replace the sink in the future, we cannot do so without removing the granite counter top. The accepted method to install a sink is to install from underneath so it can be replaced. Because the sink was raised up as well the plumbing underneath the sink did not reach the hot and cold faucet attachments so I had to replace the plumbing lines which I had to do myself. The back splash was also replaced with new tile which looks very nice except for the fact that they grouted on top of all the outlets and light switches. They didn't remove the plates before grouting. I had to go back and scrape off the grout and re-do all of the outlet and switch plates. The custom shelving unit that was built was not what we asked for. We drew up the specs with David and after they installed it the unit was not like we had requested. It was also made out of cheap grade pine. The unit cost $1600. I could have easily built this exact unit myself for about $400. The fireplace tile was replaced with slate. None of his sub-contractors knew how to install it. After 2 days of trying to figure it out they gave up. David told them to just do it and offered very little instruction. Needless to say it was a poor job and they should not have even attempted the job since they had no previous experience. Before the job was complete, David showed up at my house one evening without an appointment or notification, and expected full payment. Very unprofessional. Overall the experience was very unsatisfactory. I would never recommend this company to anyone and I definitely would never use them again for any future projects. I thought I was paying a higher price for better workmanship and ease of mind, but instead I paid a higher price for poor workmanship and a headache.
Description of Work: Replaced flooring throughout the house which included tile, wood laminate, and carpeting. Replaced kitchen counter tops and tile back splash. Replaced tile on fire place. Built custom shelving unit for living room. Sheetrock repair.

The experience was worse than my worst expectations. All work was done by subcontractors. The salesman Bryan Ronnenkamp promised to personally supervise the project and did not. The specifications were not communicated to the subs, the first crew was unsupervised, causing numerous mistakes starting with tearing out and hauling away functional copper plumbing (see photo). The only competent sub was the tile man. The granite countertop was cut wrong - no template made of the space where it was to go, and sink holes cut wrong, edges of backsplash chipped, seams with gaps not filled... The deal was 60% down and remainder on completion. Mike hurried everything to try to get his money and complained to me he was losing money and constantly pestered me for more money before the job was even close to being done. At one point I gave him a check just to get him out of my house and later cancelled payment because the job was still not done. Some workers and the salesman Bryan complained to me that Mike wasn't paying them. The carpenter installed the cabinets admitting the finish had not dried complaining that Mike made him hurry. He came later to fix the bad finish while sanding and closet carpets were being reinstalled, with his big compressor, and sprayed the cabinets sticking all the dust and debris from the construction onto the cabinets (see photo) spraying paint on the bathtub and newly laid tiles, causing the painter to abruptly leave with his crew saying he didn't wan't Mike to acuse him of messing up the cabinets.. I had to beg and plead and schedule and reschedule with Mike a time for the cabinet man to come back and re sand and re finish again before they were acceptible. They look better, but have only one thin coat of finish and no protective top coat. The contract called for a tall cabinet of a particular size and the one he delivered was not the size ordered. Mike wanted to charge me for a cabinet size to spec. I ended up compromising on everything I had wanted just to get my bathroom and master bedroom back. Project started January 14 and it was April before we could use our master bathroom. I had to stop work in the middle of the tile laying because I wanted two rows of shower stall tile removed because they were off color. Bryan took several days to respond to our change order request. The project was stopped again in mid February when I had to be away for 2 weeks for a family matter. Now the closet doors won't close and half of one faucet doesn't work because the demo crew lost the part. Mike won't fix either problem. I paid Mike the balance on the contract a couple weeks ago. Mike was rude, unprofessional and intimidating from beginning to end. Bryan -the salesman who sold the job to me with numerous misrepresentations -- abandoned me and the project early on when it started going South.
Description of Work: Master bathroom remodel, including tearing out existing shower walls and floor and ceiling, carpet, cabinets, full wall mirror and toilet. Replacing with higher shower ceiling and retiling shower stall and floor, adding a hand held shower, new cabinets with granite countertop, installing customer supplied sinks and reinstalling faucet fixtures. As general contractor was contracted to do the whole job but backed out of doing walls, woodwork and sealing the grout after installation, so that was done by two other vendors reported on separately.

Unprofessional in every way.
Description of Work: They finally showed up at 5:30 pm. David Phelps reviewed the job with the tile guy. The tile guy showed up the next day at the correct time, after that it went to hell. They had to borrow my hose for water and he cut 1 1/2 boxes of my tiles for the border which was wrong. They installed the border in the room. Then the tile guy only centered the interior tile in one direction. Now I have also noticed that I have 6 tiles within the border that are not my tile! They ran out of mine. A Beautiful Floor has not offered to pay me for the 1 1/2 boxes of my tile that they cut up by mistake. I am just glad to be rid of them. They could not lay a decent tile floor. I never saw a level in the room while they laid tile and the tile guy did not start the tile inside the border at the center. They don't seem to know what they are doing. You are welcome to come to my home to see their work. Call 281-253-7561. I would love to show you their work.

So far he has not come through with what he said he would do. At 12:30 pm, David just called me and said he will not, have his installer here at 1:30 today. It may be 3:00 pm. He is still telling me the will get it done in two days. I doubt it.
Description of Work: I was told on Aug 31, when I made the $400 deposit, that the workers would be at my home on Tuesday September 5 at 10:30 am to perform the work in a small 10 x 10 bedroom. I received a call from David Phelps round 9:30 am today, telling me his people will not be here before 1:30 pm today. It is 12:21 right now.
