"In response to the client's review: the client did bring her dog in for a yeast infection in the ear. We did work with her to find a better anti-yeast medication, and prescribed one for her. The client did feel that the medication we prescribed caused a reaction. We told her to stop using it, and she did. We also called and told her to bring the medications back and we would refund her the cost of the medications, and we did. We also called the manufacturer of the medication and reported the adverse event, even though we did not feel the medication prescribed caused the reaction. The manufacturer did place a report, and to our knowledge, no other report had been placed on reactions to that medication. Also, the medication can be used longer than 5 days if prescribed by a veterinarian, and in this case, it was. In response to the heartworm prevention shot, the manufacturer removed all warnings about administering the medication to sick animals (this patient was not systemically ill, it had an external ear infection), and the manufacturer no longer requires a consent form to be signed before administering the shot. These precautions were placed on the label 5 years ago, but have been removed from the label for 2 years. Also, the manufacturer has removed the label to not administer with vaccines; it is safe to administer with all vaccinations. The warnings the client were reading on the internet were placed on the medication years ago, and no longer pertain to the medication. We feel that we were honest, followed the manufacturers instructions, and we did refund the amount of the medications that were prescribed. We are disappointed the client feels the way she does. We do caution all of our clients to be very careful what they read on the general internet, especially when it pertains to medicine. We have specific, pier reviewed and reputable websites that we recommend our clients browsing through if they have any more questions after visiting with us.
