This was the first time to workout in the health club since signing up. My sister and I had postponed our membership to August 15, since my sister was out of town and I had surgery on my broken arm the first of the month. My sister and I came into GOLD'S GYM in Harlingen, TX on that August 15th evening, and she went to the workout area. Because of my surgery, I could not physically work out. I decided to sit in the jacuzzi to limber up my arm. Well, at this location, there are 3 small laps pools with a 2 person jacuzzi. When I started to climb in, there is only one step to get in (about a 3 foot height) and nothing to hold on to, it is almost impossible to get into the raised jacuzzi and pool. I finally made it in, and to my dismay, the 3 jacuzzi's were dirty and the maintenance person, said they only clean them once a week and they do not use chlorine to clean them. There was dirt floating on top of the foam. Isn't that against the Texas law. There is no way to get into the pool without stepping into the jacuzzi's and no railing to hold on to. Two people also slipped in the pool area because of the railing issues.Well, I decide to just sit in the small pool. Afterwards, I went into the women's locker, and almost fell 3 or 4 times because they did not have enough mats on the slick tile floor to keep people from falling. I was very scared since my left arm was healing from surgery. I finally made it into the sauna and stayed there for 30 minutes. My sister finally joined me there. I then decide to go into the steam room, seeing the mat only in front of the sauna. I climbed into the steam room and stayed for 15 minutes. When I started to get out of the steam room, I started to slip and slide because of the slick tile and the water (no mat in front of the steam room). I cut my arm several places and had a large knot on my right arm and a bruise from the top of my wrist to the end of my elbow. Blood was pouring from my arm and also hit my left arm which had surgery. My sister came to my aide, and we went to the management. All the management (very young staff) would say was that it was not serious and told me to put ice on it. They did not take a accident report which is required by the state and told me they had enough mats in the locker room. I told them they were going to have a major accident if they did not put more mats into the women's locker. Because of their (I do not care attitude) I said I would not be coming back if the members were not taken more seriously when an accident had happened. I asked for the owner's name so I could report this incident and they would not give it to me. I have now reported this incident to the city, along with the non chlorine issue in the pools and the slick tiles in the locker rooms. Since I also fell 3 or 4 times on the tile prior to my accident, I would warn everyone not to join this gym because they do not care about your safety and welfare of their members. The dirt in the pools and no chlorine, should concern everyone visiting this Gold's Gym. Customer BEWARE!!!!!! I wonder if Gold's Gym Corporate would want to know about this dirty location and state ordinances and laws they are ignoring.
