One shade did not arrive with the installer. Another was not the correct measure.
I made calls to FloorsDepotTX on the day of installation, 5, 6, 7, 10, 15 days after the installation. Each time, I'm told they'll call back, or have the installer call back to tell me when to expect the missing shade and the correction of the mis-measured one.
To date, 17 days after installation, or 57 days after the original order, I still do not know when to expect the order to be completed.
The shades they did install are of good quality and installed correctly.
I will update the details and ratings when appropriate.
"We have contacted customer and gone out to touch up concerns... Sometimes it's important to communicate to us as well...we do care and will take care of you. Thank you for your business."
"Floors Depot TX had a manufacturing representative inspect the member/customer’s floor on December 5, 2012. The problem found was not with the flooring itself, but with the thresholds at both front and back doorways. We even wet the slab outside the door & watched water run inside, under the door & threshold and under the floor. At that time, we told the customer to fix his thresholds and we could then make repairs to his floor. The laminate flooring this customer purchased is a by-product of wood. Any type of product made with wood is not meant to be mixed with water. He has admittedly said there is rain coming inside from the doors and underneath the flooring, which caused the ‘swelling’. The laminate has a topical moisture warranty, which is not what is happening in this instance. The customers’ same laminate in his restroom (which has exposure to topical moisture) is not experiencing the same problem as the front/back doors. The flooring is not failing, so until this customer makes the necessary repairs to his house, we are unable to accommodate him in any way. Floors Depot TX and the manufacturer of the laminate stand behind our products and installs when a claim is valid."
Here is the good: The guys who came out were super nice, extremely well qualified and experienced, and did a great job of the installation. I cannot find a flaw in the entire 1400 sq ft of hardwood. Can't say enough good things about the installers. There just were nearly enough of them!
Here is the not so good: As has been our experience with a carpet installation with another company, there is typically a breakdown in communication between the sales guy and the installers. It's as if they work for two different companies (maybe they do?) and don't talk to one another. On the first day the wrong kind of wood was delivered, and upon inspection, the wrong type of wood was specified on the installer's invoice, totally different from the wood on my signed estimate from the salesman. Next, we had been told it was a 3 day job. Try 7 days! True, there was about 400 sq ft of parque that had to be removed (scraped up piece by piece), but they only sent two guys for 5 of the 7 days. The parque was hard to get up, but they should have anticipated this and had more people on the job. The installers were super nice about apologizing for the inconvenience but I felt the company had underestimated the difficulty of our job and the size of the job, and had understaffed our crew. Two days we had to re-setup our bed ourselves for the night, which was a chore.
If you are planning on using them, do NOT count on your sales guy to communicate things to the installers. They just don't. Be careful to inspect the boxes of wood or rolls of carpet that are delivered. I discovered the mistake myself by scanning the bar code on the boxes with my phone, only to find it was the wrong stuff. That cost us a day to have the wood returned and new wood brought out. Question the installation crew carefully about how long it will take to do the installation. I also interacted with the crew about the use of T strips and they were very good about taking into consideration my questions. I would suggest you do your own homework about the kind of installation you are having done, and don't be shy about asking questions (like what kind of interface between the hardwood and tile or carpet).
If you're doing this through CostCo, all I can say is good luck on getting the details of the deal ahead of time. Only somebody at CostCo headquarters national knows the local deal with Floors Depot (and I never was able to locate that person), and after a number of phone calls and a physical visit to my local CostCos I finally gave up on the exact rebate and percentages involved in the project. Likewise, you would expect the Floors Depot salesman to know this stuff. He didn't know, either, and conveniently forgot to tell me that the rebate of 10% was capped. That I found out myself through a lot of sleuthing, and when I confronted him with this question, he said, "Oh, yeah." Not exactly straightforward. They should have a piece of paper they give you with the CostCo rebate on it, full disclosure, and it should be part of the bid for the job. This was not the case. I do not think this was a matter of dishonesty, I think it was more just sloppy salesmanship. I still do not know exactly what I will be rebated by CostCo on this project. If you're doing this installation through CostCo, demand to see exactly what yourrebate will be, what the cap on the rebate percentage will be, and what percentage you will get back on your CostCo credit card.
We only had a chest and a bed to be moved, but ditto the other reviewer who suggested that you move valuables yourself.
very well
