Perhaps foolishly, I agreed to move forward with letting King Roofing do the work. The work was scheduled the very next day after my insurance company approved the claim. I took a day off from work so I could be at home while the work was done. The work crew showed up early and promptly.
There is a courtyard area on my property that is enclosed and accessible only through my garage. While the crew was stripping off the old roof they were throwing the old materials into that courtyard. They almost finished the work that first day but were going to have to return the next day to complete my roof. Since I could not take off another day at work, I would not be at home to give them access to the enclosed courtyard area to remove the trash materials. When I tried to ash the workers to remove the trash from the courtyard that day before they left, I discovered that none of the crew could speak English. I finally called the rep and had to wait for him to return my call to explain the problem. He somehow managed to communicate to the crew leader about removing the materials. The crew leader then tried to put me off about removing the materials, indicating he intended to access the area by climbing the 6' privacy fence the next day. I insisted he remove the materials that same day because I did not want him climbing my fence and tearing it up. (It's old and more rickety than I would prefer.) He was resentful, but he did finally remove the materials.
When I arrived home from work the next day the roof was complete. All the trash and old materials had been cleaned up and removed from around my house. I was out of town for Labor Day weekend and did not venture into my back yard until the following week. The first time I entered my back yard I discovered the cable wiring had been disconnected from under the eaves and was left dangling all the way to the ground at the corner of my deck. I immediately called the rep and got voice mail. I was finally able to reach him the next day and he said he would come out on the following day to see what I was talking about. I left all my gates open for him to access the property while I was at work. When I got home, the wires were still dangling. I tried to call him again several times and got no answer. On Thursday of that week I finally called the office phone number. They were completely unaware of the problem. They explained to me that the rep was no longer working for the company and that he would not respond to my calls. They said they would have one of the workers come by to repair the dangling wires. I explained that I was at work, all my gates were locked and they would not be able to access the property. I told them I was uncomfortable continuing to leave my home unsecured and requested that they come by on Saturday while I was at home. The lady was supposed to call me back with a time the worker was supposed to arrive on Saturday. I did not get any return calls. I called again on Friday. I was then told the worker had already come by my house and repaired the dangling wires. I told her that was impossible because all my gates were locked. She agreed to have the worker come out on Saturday. When I arrived home on Friday the wires were no longer dangling from my roof. They had been completely removed from my house, all the way around. They were just gone. Since the worker was so eager to climb my fence the to remove material from the courtyard, I can only assume he violated my privacy by climbing my fence to access the wires while I was not at home, against my wishes.
I called the company again on Saturday morning to report the now completely missing wires. The lady evidently called her worker to find out what he had done. She called me back. She told me the worker decided they were old cable wires and instead of tacking the dangling end they had left hanging back under the eaves where it was originally, he just removed and destroyed all the cable wiring from around my house. I am awaiting another call back from the company to find out what he did with my cable wiring and when they will be back out to replace it.
Right now, I am not a happy camper. I hope the fence climbing and willful destruction of wiring is not an indication of the quality of work done on my roof. I don't know much about roofing so suppose I will just have to wait until it rains and the wind blows to find out what the quality of their work really is.
I do not recommend this company. Their failures to communicate are the first warning signs this might not be the best company to do business with. Entering my property by climbing the fence after I made the specific request that they wait until I was there is atrocious. The willful destruction of my wiring, even it if was old, is unforgiveable.
*UPDATE*
The worker finally arrived at my home on Saturday after several repeated phone calls to the company. He arrived with my wiring in hand and no intention of replacing it in the original location. Per request of Laurie in the office, I asked the worker how he had gained access to my property while it was locked and secured. He indicated he had used a ladder to go over my roof and into my backyard. He left without repairing what had been destoryed. I called the office and spoke with Laurie. She said she was going to notify Jimmy, the owner of the company and that I should expect a call back from him.
It is Wednesday and I still have not received a return call from Jimmy King. My property has still not been repaired and apparently they have no intention of doing so willingly.
Next step, BBB. I also intend to file a criminal complaint regarding the worker accessing my secured property and engaging in willful destruction.
I will keep Angie's List updated as I move forward.

Continuing, I called King Roofing to tell them my intentions of filing criminal complaints and complaints with the BBB. Their reaction was to tell me tha
