SCR CONSTRUCTION

They installed the beam successfully (only time will tell) but changed the agreement as they went along. For example I requested a wider opening and they did not do it stating it couldn't be done. I believed them at the time but now believe that they just didn't buy a long enough beam. They removed a bookcase and put sheetrock where it was and around the beam area that was replaced. They retextured the walls. They installed baseboard that we purchased in the master bedroom and closets. The beam, bookcase removal and texturing were one contract and the baseboard another. They arrived late and took an extra days on the beam, sheetrock and texture. The baseboard took more time than scheduled also and they were late again. When they removed the bookcase they removed a piece of crown molding that they left in the yard and was ruined by rain. They refused to replace that and I had to get someone else to fix the crown molding. SCR stated that I had accepted the job without the molding so they would not fix it. They textured the walls with a extremely rough surface that would even cut your arms if you brushed up against it. The original texture was 50 years old and fairly smooth. They refused to correct that stating "you can match that old of texture". I paid someone else 300.00 to remove the texture SCR had done and replace it to match the original - it matches perfectly. The beam is installed and covered up with sheetrock so only time will tell if it was done correctly. The bedroom baseboard was a disaster. Joints butted together, nails not countersunk, corners not aligned and none of the closets (there were five) were completed on the wall where the door is. They also put baseboard over an access plate. When the job was finished they told me I could paint over everything and it would look fine. My father, who has built a couple of houses, was out of town when all this happened. When he came home and saw the sloppy work he exploded and we contacted them to correct their mistakes. They did redo most of the baseboard but never finished the closets. They refused to redo any of the work in the living area (beam, bookcase, sheetrock and texture) stating I had accepted the work. I "accepted" it because Ron told me that was normal and the only way it could be. He took advantage of my lack of construction knowledge. He reasoned that since I was 31 years old that I should know better and ignorance of construction was not acceptable at my age. To summarize I had to get other people to retexture, replace the crown molding and the closets were never finished. They corrected the baseboard only because I told them I would sue them and my father accurately described their deficiencies and poor craftmanship while on a conference call. They were VERY hesitant to to discuss the problems as it took almost a week of calls before they returned a call. Their PO Box is no good either, we had trouble getting pictures of the poor work to them.
