They were a no-show. I called the store twice and even left a message. No one answered or returned my call. I called the cell number given on the business card and someone answered and said he was "off today". He did call someone else and then called me back and nonchalantly said the guy thought he was off today - did I want to reschedule? No thank you... Guess they lost out on the bath redo as well.

We were drawn to this company because they sell the hard-to-find tile we wanted (Marmoleum) and are certified in its installation. It is a small company compared to a store like Lowes, but from our first consultation to our final transaction, we were generally happy with their knowledge, experience and level of service. It is clear this company cares about leaving their customers satisfied, and likely to become repeat customers. We would definitely consider using them again.

We have used Five Star Flooring for many different projects throughout our home. We have been very pleased with the quality of work that has been done. They have earned our trust and we plan on continuing to use them for future projects. Most projects were completed within budget. On the rare instances in which costs were higher than budget, we received ample warning and were explained the reasons. Overages were relatively very small. We had minor hiccups with scheduling over the years, but projects have been completed within time expectations.

I contacted the provider asking for a bid for my kitchen remodel. The date for measurement was confused as it was confirmed the visit would take place on 1/3but the provider came on 1/1. Ken took measurements of the kitchenand told me he would submit a bid. When I had not heard from him by February, I reached back out through Angie' list. The person responding apologized and said I would have a bid within a week. As of March 13, I had not heard anything, and informed I would be seeking another provider.
Response from Five Star Flooring

"We would like to apologize for not getting this customer's estimate finalized and prepared for her in a timely manner which cost the opportunity to perform work for her. We are a small family business and have maintained the same crew members and a quality reputation for numerous years, however, this year we have dealt with several family members and close friend's deaths as well as one of death of a long term staff members (who was a long time friend as well) passing away due to cancer ~ all within a short period of time. We did maintain our on-going projects in a timely and professional manner which we kept at a priority but did lack in getting several estimates out. We have made the necessary adjustment to help get back on track as well as who we could address a situation in the future if something like this should arise in the future."

Responded to request quickly.
Scheduled the work within a few days of initial contact.
Kept me informed when the crew was delayed by traffic.
Quickly and neatly removed a small pet damaged area in my hardwood floors and replaced with spare boards I have in storage.

Ken examined the damaged areas of flooring in the living room and kitchen and also looked at the flooring throughout the rest of our home. We discussed options for repair and restoration and Ken measured all rooms involved and sketched a rough floor plan. Ken indicated that he would prepare a bid for the work and email it to me by the end of the week. When I had not heard form Ken, I sent him an email on 1/25/16 asking for an update on the promised price quote. When I still had not received a quote or any communication I sent a message to then company via the Angie's List system on 2/2/16 asking what the status of the promised quote was. They responded today finally via Angie's List mail and indicated that they felt our job would be extensive and that they were currently busy with another major job and would not be able to provide the work desired.

As an independent businessman myself, I certainly believe it is their right to choose not to take on the job we need done. My complaint is that they knew the size and scope of the job before they left my home on the 19th of January. They were given the secondary option to decline the job on 1/25 when I contacted them for an update on the status of the bid. It took them 2 weeks to decide to decline service and only notified me because I pestered them for an answer. I guess I should be grateful that I learned of their poor ability to communicate with clients with out having to experience it during an actual restoration project. I can not in any way judge their quality of work....it may be superior and very cost effective. My scores in the review are based on their total lack of punctuality, poor responsiveness to communications and their total lack of professionalism in working with us.

Regarding this particular project a member of our staff miscommunication to this customer. It was not an instance that was too large for our company but were asked to inform the customer of our situation and let them know that due to on-going projects and personal circumstances as stated above our company would not be able to meet the demand of the size of their project at the time. Again, our sincere apologizes the there was any type of lack of professionalism on our part and we hope they were able to find another qualified contractor to perform the work."

Project handled professionally and courteously.
I contacted multiple companies for estimate on repairs. Five Star Flooring was represented by Ken W. (owner). He offered the greatest benefits for the least cost (repair split in bottom stair step w/o replacing step and losing grain match with other steps; re-attaching loose spoke, painting all spokes from first floor to second floor and tightening both banisters to their respective walls on ground floor). The other companies wanted to replace the bottom step, which would mean we'd lose the matching grain pattern with the other steps, and that process would have cost much more too.
When you bid jobs, listen to the way people answer your questions and explain their craft. Ken W. has incredible knowledge of stairway construction and repair. I knew when I hired him I was getting the best.
I received the estimate in a timely manner and called their sales department to hire and schedule the work.
Ken and his crew arrived on time. They finished in 4 hours. They completed the project in the manner estimated and explained to me previously. No surprises due to deviations.
Fixing the split in the stair step required sanding the entire step, which removed the stain color but not the grain patterns and markings. Then he repaired the split in the wood which was more than 50% across the entire step. He re-stained the step to match the color with the other steps. Everyone who bid this job said they wouldn't be able to match the stain color to the other steps (Ken said he'd be close but not perfect.). Five Star Flooring did a masterful job retaining the step's original grain pattern and markings and matching the stain color of the other steps. The last staining on my stairs was 20 years ago. Only a true artist can match colors like that.
Painting of the posts and spokes was efficient and professional. They left no drips and no paint on my steps or walls. The staircase looks new again.
In addition, Ken and his crew cleaned up after themselves. I've had a lot of crews at my house this year and most do attempt to clean up after themselves, but Five Star Flooring left the area the way they found it, which was clean to begin with. To quote my wife, "It's like they were never here."
So I'm writing this review the day after the work completed. The stairs are dry and I can walk on the step where the split was and feel solid ground. I'm happy.
I recommend Five Star Flooring. They have the expertise, artistry and professionalism needed to tackle projects they are hired for.

Five Star Flooring does incredible 5 Star work!  We originally hired them to replace the tile in several areas of our home.  We later hired them to repair a shower leak as well.
With both projects they did amazing work.
The floor looks amazing and the attention to detail is fantastic.  It is obvious that Ken and his team take a lot of pride and ownership in their work.
The shower pan replacement was challenging because we didn't want to replace all the tile in the shower.  They were able to salvage some of the original tile and found other tiles that complemented and blended well to look even better than it did before the repair.
The only issue we experienced during both projects is communication - sometimes it is hard to reach someone or to know if people are coming on a particular day to work.  That said, they always follow up and get the job done well.
I can't recommend them enough for any project you might have with your home.

I contacted this provider two weeks ago regarding service and have yet to receive a response.
Response from Five Star Flooring

"We just got notification that we had an update in our reviews and found your posted review with the low grade and stating that we never responded to your message. Upon check our messages in our Angies List inbox. Somehow this was overlooked which is not typical of our company. We make every attempt to respond to every inquire. I do not want to make excuses but do want to explain that our work schedule has been unusually busy since prior to the holidays. We are addressing the changes/growth in our company and have hired additional staff for the store/office to help maintain our standard of service and avoid situations such as this arising. Your message requested pricing and it is our policy to make a job-site visit to give correct estimates to be done so that we as well as the client knows that the estimates takes into consideration a correct job-site estimate. However, to give you a general answer to your inquiry we do charge by the project and most of the bids are on a line item basis If you have not yet had your work done and still would like to consider our company to provide you with a bid we will be happy to do this for. Again, we extend our sincere apologies in our oversight."

We received an estimate which we accepted.  We went to their store to choose the flooring, establish a start date and make partial payment.  Their representatives arrived on the date and time promised.  The work took several days and several different people.  At all times, they kept us informed as to what they were doing and why.  Every one of their reps was cheerful, polite and professional.  When the installation was finished, they left the house in the condition it was in when they arrived.  We would definitely use this company again.

Ken and his team were simply fantastic.  On short notice I contacted Five Star about tearing old flooring in the kitchen of a home we're selling and replacing it with tile.  Ken came out the same day himself to provide a detailed estimate, including what he thought was going on under the floor.  He was objective and honest about what needed to be done.
I went to their showroom the next day and Karen, Chris, and I picked out tile.  Ken and the crew were on the job the very next day.  They provided regular updates given I was out of town and called with any questions/options.  The end result is great - a brand new, perfectly level, stylish tiled kitchen floor that a new owner of the house will love.  I only wish I'd done this before so I could have enjoyed it.
Can't recommend Ken, Karen, Chris and the Five Star team enough - if I have a need for this kind of work in the future, I'll call Five Star for sure.

Their name says it all. They deserve 5 stars and even more! It is all about high professional service and very friendly customer relationship.
We were at the end of a long project of bath remodeling, with no crew for finishing the tile floor, and two weeks before a planned trip in Europe. I called Five Star Flooring and asked if they can do this in a week. Ken came the next day for measurements and gave me a fair estimate. He promised he will do everything possible to include my work in his busy schedule. And he did! They came after a few days, and even though we were in a big hurry, they took the time to cover and protect the cabinets and everything around. My house has an open floor plan, so they made vertical plastic screens in order to contain the dust during the demo of the existing ceramic tile. They carefully removed the baseboards, and they cleaned, painted and replaced them in the end. All the other floor companies I called before didn't agree to do this, being afraid that the baseboards will break and they will need to provide new ones. But the correct way to install new flooring is to prior remove the baseboards and to lay the tiles from wall to wall, and this was important for me.
They did a great job, and in a timely manner. It was a real pleasure to work with them and have them in our home. Tim, Ken's son, came every day to work and help and coordinate everything. Ken came every few days to check the work and make sure things were done in the best way. My expectations were very high and they were all met. Karen always answered my phone calls and assured me that all my concerns were important and will be properly solved. And most of all, she made me feel that they want to build a friendly and reliable relationship that will last longer than this job. So next time I will have a project in my house, for sure I will ask Five Star Flooring to help me!
Ken, Karen, Tim and all the crew, thank you so much for a wonderful work!

It turned out excellent. They gave me expert advice and they were wonderful to work with. I just sold the house and one of the reasons the buyer bought the house was because he liked the floor so much.

They came out and did an initial estimate of the work needed. Here is the list:
Repair/replace water damaged flooring in the master bedroom, adjacent to the shower.
Repair/replace two fascia boards on the roof (early rot/decay).
Repair/replace 3 vents on the roof that did not vent properly.
Repair/replace some minor shingle damage on the corner of the roof.
The three man crew showed up on time, and first things first put down floor protection (plastic sheeting) to keep the wear and tear on the hallway carpet to a minimum. They pulled up the old floor (an area of approximately 5' x 3'), and cleaned up all of the water damaged areas. They installed a new sub-floor (weepers); a top plywood floor and then re-installed the carpet. Cleaned up all of the area and removed excess debris.
They replaced (including paint) the two gable fascia boards on the roof; installed new vent covers on the various plumbing vents (along with painting them all the same color); and then installed/repaired the shingle damage on the roof. All in all, finished the job in approximately 6 hours. Very friendly; professional and did a great job.
If you have normal 'handy man repairs', Five Star is the team to call. And if you are doing home repairs for a Home Sale, definitely great team to have in your corner.
