Used this contractor on the home we sold. His painter did a great job and his price was very reasonable. Bought a new home that needed some updating and we asked him to bid this job. When he did the original bid he did not write anything down as to what we wanted or prices he gave us but I wrote all of it down. Several ideas were discussed and he knew we had a very tight budget. Since the numbers he gave us fit in our budget we had him start the job. Halfway through the job he finally got us the bid which was $400 higher than originally discussed, not a big deal. Once we received the bid I made it very clear that if the bid was going to change even by a penny I needed to know and he kept assuring me everything was still the same and nothings changed and he would let me know if it changed at all, as I have been delaying other contractors from their jobs until this one was completed, just in case. He asked for a 66% draw on the bid which was given to him. His men did a great job. They worked very hard to get this job completed in a timely manner. Once the job was completed I told him I'd give him the balance of the bid. He then sent us a "final" bill that was $840 higher than the original bid. Not once did he tell any of us the job was going to be higher than the original bid. The extra was for materials and $400 to install 4 faucets which we bought. We questioned the materials since we thought that was included in the first bid and we bought a lot of the items needed to get the job completed, over $500 in materials and a shower that was $1000 that we thought was a part of the original bid. We asked for receipts which he gave us but came back and said, " if you think I'm lying to you then just keep the balance...I've got every receipt I don't lie I went above and beyond to make you happy". We paid him in full and let it go as a hard lessoned learned. So what started out as a $5300 job turned into a $7500 job. I later found out he went to a good friend and called me a dirty name when asked how our job went. He did have one worker that we did not feel comfortable coming into our home and asked Josh to not let him come back and he did it anyways, said he didn't think I was going to be home to notice.
