Horrible, I used this vet for 15 years. It Just kept getting worse. Unbelievably expensive and office staff is SO RUDE. It’s hard to find people that try harder to be offensive.

I have been going to Koy Animal Clinic for 15-16 yrs and loved Dr. Koy. You could not find a better vet. He has retired, so I had to have Toby looked at by another vet, Dr. Melissa Hensley. When I made the appointment to bring Toby (my dog) in, I explicitly told them that he was having an allergic reaction to something outside and was once again digging at himself causing large sores in several different parts of the body, as he had in previous years and was losing his hair in clumps. I also told them what Dr. Koy had prescribed for treatment in previous years worked well and fixed him up with no problems and I wanted the same treatment again for Toby. My dog seems to have allergic reactions to everything ranging from medications, to flea bites, or just the grass or whatever is in the grass, all grains and flax seed. That is why I made it a point to say I wanted the same treatment that Dr. Koy had prescribed.
We went to the exam room and I showed the new vet, Melisa Hensley, the sores and how they started (some of the beginning sores) and some that had gotten really bad where his hide had been torn from all his incessant itching and biting . She agreed that it was an allergic reaction and said it was probably to mold. I wasn't sure what he was allergic to but I DID know what would fix him up. I told her what Dr. Koy had prescribed in the past worked wonders and fixed Toby up. This problem happens every time we have a wet spring.
I was expecting her to give him an injection of the same medicine Depo-Medrol 20 mg/ml as Dr. Koy had, but no. They took Toby out of the room to give him an injection and did not even tell me they were changing the medication. Dr. Koy always injected Toby in the room so I could see what was going on, and he would always explain the medication and tell me exactly what he was giving. Dr. Koy was always so up front and gentle. I don't like the new way this new vet is doing business.
Dr. Hensley decided not to give Toby the Simplicef as Dr. Koy did, but instead prescribed a topical GenOne Topical Spray (the largest bottle possible at a cost way higher than what it should have been). She said if what she had prescribe wasn 't working by Monday, I could come back and then get the antibiotics. The ONLY thing that was prescribed the same as what Dr. Koy did was the Prednisone tablets.
On the way home Toby started having a reaction to the injection. Slobbering (which he never does), drooling, and throwing up bile. Later that night he started clicking his teeth/jaw constantly and kept looking dazed and confused. At bedtime I went to put on the topical GenOne Spray. It burned him or he had a reaction to that medication also. He yelped and ran, and when I finally got him to lay back down, his whole belly was bright red where it got sprayed. I am sure it hurt on the open wounds also. If I pick up the bottle now he will run and try to find some place to hide. So that expensive bottle of GenOne is a waste of money also.
I called them today to tell them about the bad reaction to both Dexamethasone that she injected into him and the GenOne. They said he will probably have to wait until it gets out of his system. They did NOT offer to reimburse me for the wasted $37 for the GenOne that burned him so bad. I told them to put on his record that he was NEVER to have that injection again or that Gen One prescribed. They put the information on his record and they said they would tell the Dr. of the problems. I thought she would have called to see how he was doing, but I guess not. She is definitely not the same caliber or class of doctor that Dr. Koy was. Why she felt it necessary to change what had worked in the past is beyond me, but she will never get near Toby again. I hope he heals without the antibiotics. If he doesn't I will need to find another vet next week and see if they can help. I am sad to say this no longer the fantastic place it once was.
I might mention that $97 of the cost was for the Heartgard Plus, and Toby has been on that his entire life, so there will be no problems from that part of the bill.

When we arrived, they told us that they were a little behind schedule on appointments because of some emergencies earlier that morning. Even with that, the wait was reasonable. Dr. Koy took examine both dogs, and obtained labwork on them, made a few recommendations, and answered all of our questions. His staff was very helpful also.

Koy Animal Clinic has provided care for us including new puppy check-ups, annual examinations and vaccinations, preventative care, disease/injury treatment and management, and euthanasia of older or terminally ill dogs. We have always found Dy. Koy and his associates to be very professional, up-to-date, friendly, easy to talk to, and compassionate. On a few occasions we have had to take seriously ill dogs to specialists recommended by Dr. Koy and we have found that the specialists are always the best around and that they also have a very high opinion of the care provided at Koy Animal Clinic. From the people who work the receptionist's desk to the back room folks, the technicians, and the doctors, everyone at the clinic is knowledgeable, helpful, and one of your animal's best friends.
