First of all, I keep my hard drive quite clean. I run CCleaner and Glary Utilities Pro frequently, and Microsoft Security Essentials is scheduled for a weekly clean..
In fact Friendly Computers also installed eleven pieces of malware, several that took me hours to remove over the month after I got it back from them. The easy way to have fixed the problem they created would have been for me to restore the hard drive to a restore point that I had saved on my harddrive before I brought the computer in to them, but they even erased my restore points.
Summary:
1. Friendly Computers did not do what I had asked them to do first (test the hardware).
2. They claimed they cleaned up my hard drive, something that was completely unnecessary.
3. They did not test to see if the problem was gone.
4. They deliberately or inadvertently installed eleven malware programs that took me hours to track down and uninstall.
5. They erased the restore points that would have allowed me to at least restore my computer to the condition it was in before I brought it to them.
6. They charged me $86.60 and when I complained they told me I was lucky they didn't charge me more.
It is bad enough that Friendly Computers acted so incompetently, but it is impossible for me to understand how a repair shop could have put all that malware on my computer (and erased my restore points) unless they did it deliberately and maliciously.
It took me a month to get my computer back to the level of performance it was in when I took it to them. Then, after I got my computer back, I discovered that indeed it had a hardware problem in receiving signals from my router, and I have fixed the problem myself.
I have waited several weeks to write this review for Angie’s List because I wanted to calm down before writing a report on my experience. As you might imagine, I was furious with the way they ignored my concerns, patronized me, and ripped me off. I have calmed down, and what I have written here describes exactly what happened with no falsifications or exaggerations. I have not written this to and quot;get evenand quot; with Friendly Computers, but to warn others about what might happen to them if they use this provider.

Response from Friendly Connections IT
"I had actually not seen this review and, considering its age, was not going to respond. [member name removed] did in fact buy a computer from us in 2011. And he did bring it in when he stated. The entry we have on file says the PC was cleaned and checked and returned in good shape. Since we are not in the business of putting any malware on PC, just the reverse, I am disinclined to even respond to that assertion. It is ridiculous. As to the rest, it is certainly possible that we did not perform a perfect job for him. It happens. We have reloaded customer PC's for free on more than one occasion over the past eight years in such a situation and are happy to do it especially if it is one we built. The problems as the customer describes appear to be self induced. Using Glary Utilities or any registry cleaner, accelerator, etc is inherently dangerous and typically creates problems as described here. We see it nearly every week. Be that as it may I do not remember this incident so it did not rise to my attention. The tech who handled this no longer works for us. Her name is Amy and she is the most level headed, patient, nicest person I know. And I can guarantee that she said no such thing that the customer was lucky at not having to pay more. Never happened. And since she left for a job requiring skills more complex than required here I'd say her technical handling of the PC was likely well done. Out of fifty or sixty reviews across all platforms we have a few from people who had issues with us. Part of the business. If things did not work out for [member name removed] I am sorry. I suspect that the event did not rise to the level that our company should be banned from all other customers. We have thousands of customers who would disagree. Nearly all of them say 'Why call a geek when you can call a Friend!!""

I purchased a new laptop from another company and when i took it back to them because the internet would not connect, they wanted me to leave it. I couldn't do that because I was leaving the next day and needed the laptop. I took it into Friendly Computers. They ran the diagnostics that day and did not charge me because it was a simple fix.

I really appreciated their calls with status updates. The entire process only took two days. They were extremely friendly! Their NEW address is 4134 Williams Drive, still in Georgetown, and their NEW phone number is 512.931.0303.

What a fantastic experience! Check this out: 11:30am Called Friendly Computers, spoke with Bill (the owner, I think). He said Joseph, the tech could be at me house at 12:30pm; in just an hour - can you believe it? 12:25pm Joseph calls to say he's running about 10 minutes late (such good manners!) 12:40pm Joseph arrives, gets right to work 1:15pm Service completed - and done correctly! Now I know I got lucky as they must have had a cancellation to have an appointment available so quickly, but still...in less than 2 hours from my initial phone call, the service was complete. I would use this company again in a heartbeat. If, like me, you're not so computer savvy and especially if you're tired of being just another number at a big box store, I highly recommend Friendly Computers,

Very Nice people. Computer still does not work and we've had same lack of closure on previous repairs.

The turn around was great as I took my computer in one day and picked it up the next. They were friendly and gave me some tips on keeping my computer running smooth. The price was fair too.

This has been my best computer repair experience! I had left a message with the company late Sunday evening. They called me back first thing Monday morning. They had a representative out to my home within 30 min. He had the problem narrowed down to two potential causes in a matter of minutes. He had to take my computer back to the main business, but was back and had it up and running in no time at all. The whole process, from phone call to return of my working computer took only 2 hours!
