I explained the situation to the electrician. I told him that AT&T had already been out and fixed the line to our junction box. I explained that we usually have problems with our phone lines after it rains and that I was told that the line to the malfunctioning jack was not an appropriate outdoor line and that it would at some future date, which happened to be now, go bad because it was not meant to be used outdoors. The worker than spent 40 minutes testing the line to the junction box and being unable to check out the power to the various lines because he didn't have the appropriate equipment. When I asked him what he was doing, he explained that he was seeing why we didn't have power to our jacks because there was a dial tone. I then repeated what I had told him in the beginning and reiterated that I just needed the jack in that one room fixed. He then spent an additional hour and a half fixing the jack including replacing the line, replacing the jack twice and having to reattach the wire to my other phone after having accidentally loosened it. He didn't clean up his trash. While at least semi-competent, he took an excessively long time to fix the jack, didn't listen to my description of the problem, wasted time doing unnecessary work, and didn't clean up. He did charge me for less time than he had spent and the estimate was right on the mark from what I was given by the scheduler. He appeared on time. He was very nice to me and he didn't charge me for producing the invoice which took him five minutes. He apologized for the miscommunication and he didn't charge me for the time he wasted looking at the wrong problem. I liked this part of the job they did.
