DTC Georgetown. They have been servicing our HVAC system for several
years. The failed coil had been replaced by DTC 2 years ago and was
still under warranty. I e-mailed Brian, the owner, asking why the
coil failed after 2 years. Several days passed without a reply,
return call or estimate for the repair. In the interim, I contacted
two other HVAC service providers for a second and third opinion on
this problem. They agreed with the leak diagnosis and gave us their
repair estimates. After several more days passed, I finally contacted DTC
inquiring about their follow up plan. Brian stated that he had
contacted the manufacturer was waiting for their reply. It appeared like he was doing us a favor by consider the repair!
After our conversation, I e-mailed the CEO of the manufacturer and heard back
from the local distributor the next day. The manufacturer arranged
for an upgraded warranty replacement coil and agreed to pay some of
the labor expense. DTC finally sent me a repair estimate the day
before the scheduled coil replacement, which was 25% higher
than the highest estimate from his competitors and 20% more than
their invoice for the first replacement 2 years ago! I reviewed these issues with Brian and negotiated
his estimate down 25% Clearly, this appears to be price gouging and based on other members reviews, it might be!
Retrospectively, we should have chosen another HVAC service to replace the coil. Time to move on to another HVAC provider focused on the customer and charging a fair price!
