The guy from O'Brien convinced me to buy his garage door opener and return my Home Depot.  Cost difference was an extra $20, but the value added far exceeds that amount.  I am happier with this model than my previous buy.  The door opens more smoothly, the light is brighter.  Overall just a better garage door opener for approximately the same cost.

They did a good job. I've used them before. They're our regular providers for that concern. I know that they checked around all over the city. My garage door is not that old but it's still older than most of the newer ones obviously. The Genie was very good at giving me the part and we took care of that. I trust them because we have been using actually O'Brien for quite a while. We pay a fair price. I just feel that they have good service people that I can rely on.

"We appreciate your business, and are sorry to hear you elected to call another company. It is possible to bang out a dent, but aesthetically and more importantly, operationally, the door will never be the same again. Safety is our number 1 priority. It is our job to make sure that we give you options that correct the problem the right way. If we can't guarantee a fix will not fail, we can't in good conscience recommend that avenue of repair for our customers."

I do NOT know what this company is thinking if they are planning on operating a company in this way. I received a special offer "sale" brochure from O'Brien in a group mailing of many companies. I looked at it and thought that it looked like a local, family-owned company. I have a special, custom need for my garage door. I called O'Brien and asked for the owner. "He is occupied right now." was the response. I asked a VERY specific question about having a single panel made or ordered for a very thick solid wood door on an older home. The receptionist put me on hold and told me that she would go ask the owner, Mr. O'Brien. She came back and assured me that O'Brien could do EXACTLY what I requested. I made the appointment. TODAY, the O'Brien guy came after a lot of "issues" getting here. He got lost. The "office" called me, and I gave extremely specific directions: "My house is on the NorthEast corner of the intersection of ___Drive and ___Street. I waited 30 minutes or so and called back. "Our technician is at your house!" My response? "He is not at MY house. I don't know whose house he is at, but it is NOT mine." Just short of 30 MORE minutes went by, and the guy came and rather incessantly rang my doorbell until I got there. He came back from reluctantly taking a photo of the outside of the door (because I clearly explained that I was NOT going to buy a metal door of any kind today or any other day. Ever.) and proceeded to sneeringly tell me that the door is OLD and not made any more. (Like that was news to me.) The man had no manners, was not the cleanest guy I've ever encountered and spoke limited English. I called back in to the "local" call center. The guy on the phone said that they could really not do anything for me because I was refusing to "negotiate" with the guy at the door! You have got to be kidding.
If your name is O'Brien and you started this company and then sold it out to a bigger, franchise-selling company and it still retains your name...you need to understand that they are ruining your personal reputation. If there really IS NO "Mr. O'Brien" who originated a family owned business and he is NOT working right there in Arlington, TX, as I was informed on the first call...then only the public needs to be warned.
My short experience with these guys was nothing short of ridiculous. NO, they did NOT work for me. I would never work with ANYONE who runs their business in this manner. If you WORK for O'Brien and want to address this sorry situation, then consult your log and call me. But, the guy I talked to last didn't seem to think that there was anything out of whack with my experience. He chalked up my "dissatisfaction" to my own "refusal to negotiate" with the "gentleman" that was sent to my house. I could NOT have been more clear in that original call. I stated VERY clearly that they were NOT to send anyone to my house to try to sell me a door...only to repair the door that I currently have. They so kindly informed me that they were the company to find that wooden panel and replace it. What a load of .......

"We absolutely told you it was possible for us to order wood panels. We also told you that we would need to schedule an estimate to confirm what you needed because not all wood panels are available. There is no way to confirm what you need over the phone; this must be done onsite. In your specific case, it is impossible to order a new panel. Your only option would be to replace the door, or find a custom wood worker to recreate the panel for you. The typical wood panel made in the 1980’s that is still available is a wood framed panel with a square plywood center. In your case, the center of the panel is beveled. This type of section is no longer produced. We schedule estimates for this exact reason; we need to assess each specific situation, and give options. The estimate is a complimentary free service provided to you so that we can relay accurate information about the products, and/or services you may need. There is no obligation to buy anything; the trip is solely informational, and a courtesy to you. Steel doors are not the only solution. We would have happily given you an estimate on a new wood door as well as steel for comparison, however we were not able to discuss these options with you. Rather than discussing options and choices available, you spent the duration of the technician’s time onsite on the telephone with our customer service representative berating the technician. You commented on his “low IQ,” as well as, called him an idiot, ignorant, impersonated his accent, and were generally combative. We were not able to give you any pertinent information at all because you were absolutely unwilling to listen. We understand that you are frustrated, but your comments were uncalled for and untrue. We sent a valued and well trained crew member to your home whose job was to provide you with realistic solutions; you made that completely impossible. We sincerely hope that you are able to find another company to meet your needs, and wish you the best of luck moving forward."

I had a wonderful experience with them. The tech was just great. He was friendly. He was somebody I felt very comfortable with being in my garage and me not being right out there. Most companies like O’Brien that I did not go are about the same prices. If you go cheap, you are going to pay in advance.

I used them before. I thought that they did a decent job. They did have to come back and re-repair it afterwards. They kind of repaired it and then tune it up and then I had an issue I call them up and they came up and repaired it, no problem. Everything was taken by and it's been fine. The interaction was good.

Technician arrived on time. Told me three prices for the spring, 90 day warranty, 2 year and lifetime. Then told me I should have TWO springs and quoted me another price? I declined stating that the door had worked fine for 8 years on ONE spring.
Next he told me I should replace the rollers with metal ones with bearings? again I declined.
After that he told me that " my gear assembly needed replacing and if i didn't,  after a while , the door would not drop completely" i said I would wait for that to happen and declined.
After replacing just the spring $277.33 he left. Didn't try closing or opening the door. I closed the door as he pulled away and it wouldn't close. I called the company. They said "That's because I should have replaced the rollers like they had suggested and they would set up another call out for me another day ((another $38)  I went ballistic and said the technician left without my door closing and he could only be one block away by now. He returned.
He said he had told me I had to replace the gear assembly or this would happen. THAT WAS LIES. If he had told me that I had to replace the gear assembly or the door wouldn't close then of course I would have had it done.  He put in a new assembly $184.38 ( he said the office had told him to charge another $38 call out, despite having left the job just 5 minutes ago and the door not closing)  He was about to drive off AGAIN and the garage door STILL wouldn't close. He saw this time and stopped.
Said he would reduce the spring a 1/4 of a turn. Did that and it worked. Maybe if he had done that the first time I wouldn't have had to pay for a gear assembly.
A TOTAL RIP OFF ! NEVER USE THIS COMPANY!

I called this company on Monday 12/16 to schedule an appointment for Wednesday 12/18. I was told the tech would be there between 8am and 10am. On Wednesday, I called the company around 9:30 am and I was told the tech was "stuck in traffic" and running 30 minutes late. At 10:30, the tech wasn't there, I called angan was told the same thing. At 11:00 and 11:30 still no tech and I was told the same thing. At noon, still no tech and I was told the same thing. Finally at 1:00 p.m., someone at the company told me the tech wasn't answering his phone and had not been answering the phone all morning. So it appears the "stuck in traffic" was just a line someone was giving me. I cancelled the appoint and picked another company from Angie's List. The new company and the tech both called before coming out. They arrived on time and fixed the problem.
I will never do business with O'Brien Garage Doors again. I wasted a day of work waiting on them and they never showed up!!

They came out on Sunday to do the work, the guy I dealt with was very knowledgeable and friendly. He did not charge me an emergency fee to come out. I will definitely continue to use them in the future.

A cable broke while our garage door was closing and the door came to rest about 2/3's of the way closed and at a severe angle. I called O'Brien Door on Saturday morning and the repairman arrived before 5:00 the same day. I was told that the door could not be repaired and that we may as well upgrade the opener at the same time. I was given and estimate of over $2,100 for the complete package. I felt uncomfortable with the estimate told the repairman that I would call his company on Monday if I wanted to proceed. On Monday afternoon a representative of O'Brien called and told me that the door I had ordered would take 2 to 3 weeks to arrive. I informed the representative that I had not given the approval to order the door and that I had only received an estimate. The next day, another representative called to let me know that the manufacturer of the door I was quoted had just lowered the price by around $200. I informed him that I had decided to repair the old door instead of replacing it. He asked if I would be using his company and I informed him that his company had the first shot and had said that the door must be replaced. He seemed startled and hung up. Another company repaired the door for less than $350.00 and it is working great!
