Servpro quickly determined that there was no water damage due to the broken skylight. The skylight had a small hole that had leaked into the kitchen sink during the night time storm. They then covered the skylight with a tarp and tape. The skylight has been covered for weeks pending a total roof replacement. It has held up through high winds and storms. I'm happy with the work they performed. They arrived early AM to do the work which was nice since further storms were expected. They charged the basic service rate of $95, which was fine with me because I do not like to get on the roof for any reason. I called Servpro for the work based on the recommendation of State Farm.
Description of Work: Servpro tech Jorge and his assistant inspected a broken 4 x 4 skylight over my kitchen. The damage was caused by a hailstorm. After verifying that there was no water damage they covered the broken skylight with a tarp to keep water out until I could repair the skylight.

Dealing with a house fire is a disaster all its own, but when I realized some of my property was missing, it made things that much worse. For those of you who haven't been through this, you don't have free access to your property for awhile, you're under stress, and unfamiliar with the insurance claim routine. It's very easy for someone to take advantage of you. ServPro's owner didn't understand why I cared about receiving an inventory or understanding the bills. As she put it, "you're not paying for it anyway". She was referring to the fact this was an insurance claim. But as consumers, we are paying for it. Your insurance company will require you to justify your claim. Not having an inventory caused me additional headaches. ServPro charged me almost $20,000 for incomplete, sloppy work and stolen property. I tried working with them to review my bills, but they stopped responding to my emails and phone calls. I decided I'd offer them a small settlement because I was very anxious to put this behind me. They refused and filed a lawsuit. In all this time, they still refuse to justify their billing. Even if the job had been complete, the price was exorbitant; given it was incomplete, and invoices from the builder show the same work, they don't deserve to get paid. This is where we are today.
Description of Work: I experienced a major house fire on July 20, 2007. I had several problems with ServPro (dba Tayco) including theft/conversion, inaccurate billing, and substandard work, so I refused to pay them. The fire started in the attic, so the roof was destroyed. The fire department put the fire out by spraying water through the top of the house. In other words, nothing burned up, but there was significant water and smoke damage. All of my property should have still been somewhere in the house. It was also July, which is hot and humid in the Dallas area. My house was totally rebuilt with the exception of the exterior walls and studs; I lived in temporary housing for 7 months. What they were supposed to do: Pack Out Service Remove personal property from home to prevent mold Inventory personal property for insurance claim Store salvageable personal property (after cleaning) until house was rebuilt Demolition (complete demo means builder can immediately begin renovation) Remove drywall to prevent mold Remove carpet to prevent mold Provide details to builder and adjuster so that complete estimate to rebuild the house could be created Remove all debris What they did: Pack Out Service Remove personal property from home to prevent mold - after ServPro left, there were appliances, furniture, insulation, wood, tile and trash left for the builder to clean up Inventory personal property for insurance claim - after ServPro left, many of my usable items were missing: ALL shoes - ServPro said there were no shoes in my house, and if there were, the firemen probably took them. New digital camera - ServPro said it didn't exist after giving me a picture of it. 12x12 rug - adjuster and I saw it in ServPro storage facility; it was gone the next time we were there. New bath hardware - it was in a picture taken by ServPro; I never saw it again. The only inventory I received was a single handwritten page using poor English. Store salvageable personal property (after cleaning) until house was rebuilt - I visited ServPro's storage facility after the fire. My personal property was in a locked room with standing water on the floor and without temperature control. It was July in Dallas. Wet items in a hot, humid room aren't worth cleaning after a few days. [see picture] Demolition Remove drywall to prevent mold - ServPro removed drywall by ripping it off the studs by hand so they left ALL screws in ALL studs (every 6 inches per stud). The builder had to remove each screw from every stud, so ServPro's exorbitant labor charge accomplished absolutely nothing. I was charged for sheetrock removal by ServPro and the builder. [see picture] Remove fixtures so builder can begin renovations - after ServPro left, all carpet was gone (in 4 bedrooms), but all tile and wood flooring in every other room remained for the builder to demo. Provide details to builder and adjuster so that complete estimate to rebuild the house could be created - ServPro unnecessarily removed (and "misplaced") some fixtures that weren't damaged by fire, smoke or water, so they needed to be replaced. [see picture] Remove all debris - ServPro charged me labor and materials (boxes and dumpsters) for the debris, but only one room in the whole house was free of trash, insulation, sheetrock or personal items.
