DFW CUSTOM WOOD FLOORS

Hardwood Flooring Sales and Installation, Flooring Sales and Installation

About us

DFW Custom Wood Floors is based in Frisco Texas. WE specialize in flat and hand scraped wood floors where many other flooring companies cover all types of floors. We also specialize in refinishing existing natural wood floors OR turning older flat wood floors in to hand scraped refinished floors. We can submit referrals all day long BUT in addition we like to offer potential clients the opportunity to GO SEE our work in former clients homes that are closest to you! This is what wins us the majority of our bids with you! Furthermore, we have been featured in several local magazine articles on hand scraped wood floors as well as recently being featured in an episode of SELL THIS HOUSE which airs nationally on the A&E channel. WE do NOT push sales! NO one likes a USED CAR SALES approach and what we do is a large investment in to your home! When its right for you its right. Please call us for a free bid when ready 972-260-(wood) 9663. let our referrals and former clients tell you about us! Exactly how we ended up on Angies list. We do what we say we will do when we say we will do it. NO one likes being displaced when it comes to tearing up your house to have a flooring project done. WE understand this and have a "acclimation process" for the wood we use that enables us to do MOST installations turn key start to finish in 3-4 days total time. Thanks for reading about us! Hope we can work with you in the near future and show you a little bit about our natural wood flooring services! IF it is a natural wood floor you are seeking either flat or hand scraped finish please give us a call as this is OUR niche! Thank you, owner David Snell, [email protected]

If you are planning on hiring this company, please think twice. This company does nothing but sell the services of another sub-contractor. You would be better off calling the installer which is sub-contracted by this company: Corner Stone Hardwood Floors in Mesquite, TX. The owner of DFW Custom Wood Floors apparently has multiple small businesses on the side and does not have any time to devote to individual customer relationships. He puts on a good show during the bidding process and until he gets your order. After that, he never shows up again, and the job is passed along to the sub-contractor above. If you have questions or problems during the installation, you are continuously referred to the sub-contractor. In fact, the owner of DFW Custom Wood Floors never re-appeared at my job site for a proper walk-through after the work was done. However, he did re-surface when it was time to pay. At the end of my project, I had a number of open items to be cleaned up like caulking, rough areas on the scraped hardwood and a missing third coat of polyurethane - yes, a missing coat. When I captured these items in a list of open items and sent the list to Mr. Snell, he acted totally insulted and less than professional. He stated that he had never received an open-item list like this one in his career and that I must be very displeased with the job. Also, he asked me if I stood there and counted the number of coats of polyurethane which were applied to the stairs and upper landing – well, I did actually count the number of coats because I could not use my upstairs bedroom each time the polyurethane was applied and had to dry overnight. Ricardo, the owner of the installing company (Corner Stone Hardwood), did not have any problems with the open-items list and took care of all items to my satisfaction. He even took time to walk through each of the punch-list items and also came back several weeks later on a warranty issue without hassle. The payment terms were 40% on order, 60% on completion. The day the work was completed but before the punch list was addressed, I had a text message from Mr. Snell requesting payment. When I generated my open-items list and sent it out, he began sending me daily text messages harassing me for final payment. I agreed to pay him another 50% but withhold 10% until the open items were completed. I felt this was more than fair on my part because I was overall satisfied with the work and knew that his installer was coming back to fix the open items. Nevertheless, Mr. Snell continued to harass me via text messaging and email for the remaining 10% even before the open items had been resolved. I eventually had to send him an email demanding that he stop texting me or else I would report him to the BBB. I further said that I would pay the 10% once the job was complete, but not a minute sooner. This email stopped the text messages for maybe two days, and they began again. Getting an invoice was another story. When I asked him to submit an invoice via email, Mr. Snell literally cut-and-pasted a text message that he sent me at the beginning of our relationship. The text message had a brief description of the work and a price – that’s it. I emailed him back and said that this was excellent information, but asked if I could have a proper invoice on his company’s letterhead. He then said that the text message was the invoice and again became insulted to the point that he was using expletives and bold, capitalized text in his email response to me. In any case, all open items were resolved in 3-4 days, and I finally paid this guy without getting an invoice just to shut him up and move on. I certainly believe that he has other, more deeply-rooted problems, especially after reviewing the other negative review on Angie's List published shortly after my work with him began. Potential customers should steer clear of DFW Custom Wood Floors and just contact Corner Stone. They do excellent work.

Removed existing carpeting, padding, then placed heavy plastic on slab, nailed plywood down and secured wood planks to plywood. The wood was sanded multiple times, stain applied, checked for rough spots, and sealed with polyurethane. The crew was very organized and efficient. The floors look and feel awesome!

So first of all, the first question I asked David when he was giving a bid was, "Do the installers work directly for you?" His reply was "Yes". In providing pricing, he kept saying he needed to check in with Ricardo. If David was the owner, why do you need to check with your flooring guy to confirm pricing? Well it was apparent when the crew showed up with a van parked out front plastered with "Cornerstone Hard Wood Floors", clearly not DFW Custom Wood Floors. I chose David b/c he asked all the right questions on-site, and submitted his bid promptly. He was not the cheapest, and he charged a flat square footage rate including overage. So if your floor is 250 sq/ft, and he adds 20 square feet for overage....you will pay $10.25 for overage as well. This did not include an additional $300 I paid a separate guy to trim doors to accommodate the thickness of wood floors. That aside, the installation went smoothly, Ricardo's crew was very quick, and they finished on-time. Where things went down hill is David sending me an insulting email accusing me of shorting him $50 and being unethical. Can you imagine sending an email to a customer accusing them of being cheap, and intentionally shorting you of $50? Even if I had shorted him, any sane person would just eat that cost and maintain good customer relations. Not David.... After sending him final payment in full (including the $50 he's whining about totaling $2971.25), he wrongly accuses me of shorting him $50 and feels the need to insult me by sending the email below. Most contractors would say Thank you for your business. This guy basically told me to go to h***, when he just couldn't correctly add up the total of 2 checks received: Subject: thanks hope the extra $50 helps you guys really wondered if you would actually leave it off! From: "David Snell" <[email protected]> Date: Tue, April 15, 2014 1:51 pm To: "Me"> I received the check but seriously so I did not add in the $50 bucks defined as "turn key" which was flooring cost but clearly had it marked as additional cost for the trim in my bid! I know that was not missed when reading was it? I hope you enjoy the floors and the additional $50 you did not pay helps you both out! It was material cost.........not like I was making a dime on it! Sorry but really? Flooring turnkey was $2921.25, 285 sq ft by $10.25 a sq ft. Molding was $50 material cost. It's not about the money Todd it's just the simple principle! Thanks........... David Snell
Description of Work: DFW Custom Wood Floors subcontracted out the installation of on-site handscraped hardwood floors to Cornerstone Wood Floors. This involved removing carpet, laying plywood subfloor with moisture barrier, nailing down oak planks, staining, and sealing with (3) coats of oil based Poly.

[MEMBER NAME REMOVED]......... My gosh thought that your partner [NAME REMOVED]'S communications with me after my simple error in math re the $50 dollar trim given to you at material cost with no labor factored in had things settled for you but clearly they did not! Although [NAME REMOVED] seemed to be fine his copied reply below. BTW I never mis represent using my subcontractor (Ricardo) and I think that my additional 6-7 reviews speak well for both myself, my business and "our work". Client after client will testify to this year after year I am as transparent as they get! Yes Ricardo and I discuss many things daily as we have for over four years re work, schedules, cost etc! So to your complaint: Funny to me how you simply forgot to fill in a few blanks to this one sided story of yours so now that you couldn't leave things alone after it seemed as though your partner [NAME REMOVED] and our communications to settle any differences were fine the other night. MATTER OF FACT here is your partners last note to me perhaps you did not read it although......you were Cc'd! "Thank you. The floors are beautiful and I'm sure will last for years to come. I'm glad we got the rest sorted out. Regards, [NAME REMOVED], Sent from my iPhone. Please excuse type-o's. So since you can't leave this alone it would be nice if you had shared in your "F" rating (despite [NAME REMOVED]'s last reply) why exactly I had a "sour taste" in my mouth from early on in your 285 sq ft Master bedroom we did matching wood floors for. IN our line of work there are overage amounts that are typically 5-10 % which are common amounts used to complete any installation. On a job of your size we used I believe it was 7%. 267 sq ft (7%) = 18 sq ft. You wanted me (per [name removed]'s request) to ONLY pay on the "materials" of that 18 sq ft.........which I was kind of blown away by for the following reasons I explained to you in detail as you may recall? End of the day it was like an $75-80 dollar difference! However, you had not thought of the few things I was willing to give you in the bid I did or was willing to do without charging for as "I for one" do NOT nickel/dime my clients. So I explained it to you in detail so you could understand that the small amount of $$ you were worried about not paying on your 285 sq ft bedroom was being used to cover additional items I did not.........set out to line item charge you for why??...........because I am not the guy to try to bill for every single item I can think to bill for. Thus I pointed out I would not charge for any needed door cuts in your bedroom, I offered to use the water based polyurethane which cost us more than oil because it is better in our opinions in a pre occupied home, less fumes, drys faster, better for your old dog I told you I was a big dog fan etc. Was willing to offer the "shoe molding" at a $50 cost with no labor to stain/cut/install it........although paying Ricardo to do it. End of the day, after my lengthy explanation explaining what that additional "overage money went to" which actually cost me more out of pocket than you were charged........you decided to use us yes......."letting me know" (again) how we cost more than your other bids. Still never sharing exactly what those figures were? My guess is not that much as my pricing is in line with most "reputable" wood flooring companies in the DFW market. Typically we get told that we are smack dab in the middle price wise! Much why we stay booked out typically 2-4 weeks in advance not so in line with your (F rating). "Thanks". However, I found a small window in our schedule to accommodate you to get your floor done. [member name removed] did you read the other Angie's list ratings? I "try to help anyone" regardless of doing their flooring work or not as many people get in a pinch with perhaps some of those "less expensive" contractors you kept mentioning to me early on when you still had a choice to go with one of them! In conclusion, I had a sour taste in my mouth from early on before you elected to use us (after my explanation) because I have never been told that the client has issues and doesn't want to pay in full on an overage amount of 18 ft? Wanting a reduction in "billable overage cost" especially on a job of the size of yours where it involved "18" ft" of overage after being told how we cost the most! GREAT feeling for me going forward! So as I told you when my last email to you was sent........I was on the defensive from close to day one. NOT by my choice! I was going to use (all of) the overage cost (plus money) I did not bill you for to cover small items I did not see a need to line item charge you for. [member name removed], you had a choice of apparent less "costly" contractors after the initial "tension" which I never in my wildest would have envisioned when bidding your one room. Yet you selected us telling me you thought we would do the best. Seems in line with [name removed]'s last reply I hope?? So in the end I miss calculated and THOUGHT INCORRECTLY that you left off the $50 dollar trim fee. So my satire in all of this comes from this story given above. In my incorrect thinking I sent you a email stating that I hope the $50 helps you out as I thought you left it off. As for me posting your initial reply I would be happy to too but dropping "F bombs" to me telling me that I am the most d-azz contractor ever would do what? As [name removed] said your floor is fine and at least he............likes it! As for you, you just couldn't leave this alone although I thought that all was good with [name removed]'s communication with me!. So in no way as owner of my highly reputable local wood flooring company as (every other Angies list review shows) plus the pages of referrals on our web site would I not submit a detailed explanation/reply to your one sided take on this. It is VERY rare I ever get put in a spot like this but would be happy to address any questions any possible Angies List member has about this rare situation while considering us. Please let my other "years" of referrals on here speak for themselves as we never have the ability to post referrals as they come directly from our clients or even those we simply helped despite maybe never doing a floor as some of my referrals will reflect. As for the situation re the "small mathematical error" I owned it long before now and explained where my satirical reply came from thinking that after everything that went on up front that you were cutting out the $50 dollar trim cost in the end! You did not I was wrong and owned it long before this! Yet you want to slam me/my business etc with your one sided story. I was trying to help you from day one.......in the end in this case perhaps you should have engaged one of the other cheaper contractors you kept throwing in my face?? Glad [name removed] seems to like the floors and for you [member name removed], sorry that you still have some axe to grind and cant let this go. David Snell Owner dfwcustomwoodfloors.com

David did a great job pricing, communicating, and installing wood floors in the living room and master bedroom. Everything happened as scheduled and there were no issues at all. The new wood floors are so much better than the existing floors that we will have to replace the existing soon to match.

I recently bought and moved into a new house in West Plano. I asked Dave to bid on the renovation but before I even had a chance to respond I was talked into using my realestate agent's floor guy. Big mistake. I should have used Dave. The other floor company provided minimal communication. There was one screw up after another. They didn't acclimate the wood properly. They claimed that they were using a higher grade wood than they really did. They never told me that they would lock my dishwasher in among many other major issues. Amazingly Dave called me to check on me and when I told him I wound up going with the realestate agent's friend, he continued to check on me to make sure that the project was going well. This was quite amazing. Did you all hear what I just said. Let me say it again. I went with another company by mistake and Dave continued to call me and check on me. He made himself totally available to me to help me deal with this other incompetent company and tell me what questions to ask and how to resolve the problems. He walked me through the rest of my installation with solutions for all of the other companies problems. I can't tell you how important proper communication is during this process and Dave will provide this completely. He also offered me the opportunity to see other houses where he had replaced floors. He is obviously extremely competent and will do you right. Please watch his video on his website as I did and it will all be quite obvious. Dave earned this review even though he didn't do my floors. If I ever did this again I would call him immediately. I owe this man and thus the review.

Before we purchased a house in Plano, we knew that we were getting into a lot of work as the house needed repair in many areas. We knew that we were capable of accomplishing most of the work, however, the flooring was a total mess. There was carpeting which was dirty beyond cleaning, frayed and stained. The wood laminate flooring was worn and scratched and there was tile flooring that needed to be replaced. This was one area which really needed to be handled by a professional. We searched Angie's List comparing the quality of workmanship as identified in their very informative consumer reviews along with the companies web sites which further elucidated their offerings. After reviewing several companies we decided on, as far as we are concerned, the best of the best - that being DFW Custom Wood Floors. All I can say, David Snell and his Quality team of installers proved to us that we could not have made a better choice. To begin with, this was a larger job for David, as we needed about 90% of our flooring replaced. This required the removal of carpet, tile and laminate flooring. The work was extensive. Their workmanship was excellent - they used high-quality hardwood boards which were perfectly fitted, finished and sealed. We had several options for color as well as degree of the hand-scrapped finish we wanted. David was very helpful in making our decision by providing actual stained and scraped finishes for us to choose from. I encourage you to visit their web site where you will find videos and in-depth information explaining the extensive preparation and installation process they employ. Best of all --- their pricing was very reasonable for a true hand-scrapped, hardwood floor! A big Thank You to David and his team! Alan & Ann

Description of Work: David's crew installed over 2200 sq ft of hand scraped oak flooring in our home. This included a stairway and new oak quarter round as well. David was very up front about costs, time involved and the mess.....yes it can get a little dusty in the house. I have recommended him to friends many times and know of several cases where they have contracted with David after meeting with him. If I need this type of flooring in the future, he will be my first call.

Dave was phenomenally accommodating with advice through our ordeal over our new floor that had gotten messed up by another vendor/installer. He was very generous with this time and sympathy, as we struggled to find the next-right-thing to do over our kitchen floor. His interest and concern was obviously genuine that our problem be resolved to our satisfaction. We ended up not using him because he is in Frisco and we are on the west-side of Fort Worth. Further, we wanted to go with a type of finish he had never used. The professional floor inspector strongly recommend that whoever we used had used the product extensively to avoid any further problems. Dave could not have been more gracious, professional, and supportive. Given the right circumstances, I would absolutely use his services.
