- The swimming pool was inoperable due to an obstruction in the main line between the drain pipe at the bottom of the pool and the PVC line to the motor. JK Pools was recommended by my plumber. The service person who arrived tried unsuccessfully to find the problem. He left to "consult with my boss". Upon his return, he tried to "blow out" the obstruction with water. The PVC pipe he used was too small to fit the motor housing so there was no pressure to blow anything out. Instead, there was water leaking out of the pipes onto the ground and around the ill-fitting pipe. He left to seek more advice and returned another day. This session was less than successful. Each visit included new parts. The new parts made no difference to the performance of the pool's system. It would not circulate enough water to even distribute any chemicals. The pool could not be cleaned. With each attempt and failure, the service person would become frustrated and he would loudly curse and swear. I didn't have to ask if progress was being made as the expletive-driven rant indicated otherwise. This tirade was repeated the next session. This time, the swearing was so bad I went inside. I was sitting on the veranda reading when the swearing reached fever pitch and drove me in. Still, no results or improvement. I am not a "prude" but the total lack of professionalism was bewildering and no substantive plans were formulated to dislodge the obstruction. It should be noted that 4 businesses took a look at the pool beforehand and were unable to get it working. Since there was no progress at all, none of them charged me.
- When I received the bill from JK Pools, it was for a little over $1000. Despite the time and parts, the pool was no better than the day they started to work on it. The technician was clearly out of his element as he could not come up with any plan to fix it and each attempt at a fix resulted in a profusion of swearing and cursing at high decibel levels. I called the owner when I received the bill and asked him about two of the service calls when the technician was unable to make any improvements, could not come up with a plan to fix it and showed his frustration through a barrage of loud swearing. The owner said that the technician was frustrated. He told me that "there is no one in this county who could have fixed your problem". That interesting tidbit would have been more helpful at the beginning, before a $1000 bill was presented. If they knew there was little chance of water flowing again, it would have been honorable to share that info with me before they rang up a bill of that magnitude with no improvement and no fix.
