Communication is poor, do not answer calls or email, and the “accuracy” of any communication is questionable. Invoiced for best equipment, but not what was installed. They do not honor their warranties. Sod was of poor quality, dry and dying, intended for another project and not installed per industry standards. Much did not survive being watered twice weekly. Multiple places that sod did not root, mostly because of irrigation design and installation. On area of lawn not leveled which has created ponding. Sod not in straight line on property line. Irrigation system does adequately irrigate lawn. Some heads not at proper location or water pattern does not cover the area. Pattern hits trees leaving dead area behind tree. Several heads are buried, tilted up or down, in wrong location for design, and do not cover the target area. Overall design does not adequately water the yard. They were informed of the issues multiple times but never responded.

Going on 1 year since the work was completed. The sprinkler system was installed incorrectly and leaked for 1-2 months upon move in. This was new construction and upon the first bill I reached out to the water company to try and find out what was going on. On month 2 the yard started flooding and realized it may be coming from our yard. Texas lawns found the leak and fixed it but I paid close to 2,000 before they did. They would not offer to help with the bill as I was told it was my responsibility to notice it and notify them. Sod never grew correctly in spots because of poor installation. I can still to this day go and pick up certain patches by the top and lift because it never rooted. Had to reach out continually for updates on anything that I requested. Requested quotes for more items 2 to 3 times with no quote ever presented. Currently working to replace a large group of plants that have died. Was told by the new group (Landscapers) we should move multiple of the existing plants as they were planted so close together they will likely not grow correctly. Worst case scenario some of them may die as time goes on because of the type proximity to others.

Contacting owner was difficult. It was often a day or more to hear back. But sometimes he'd text right back. But Ron is a very outgoing, professional high-energy guy. It's easy to like him. Once you get hold of him, he's true to his word, and does a fantastic job on sprinklers. Quick and professional. Everything works great!
(One small thing, his nepphew reprogrammed my sprinkler schedule wrong, but no biggy, I took care of that)

My only complaint was the re-sodding of my yard. They didn't rake it first, so it's all lumpy, and they brought BARELY enough to do the job, such that we were tearing up pieces to finish. Some of it is now dying, but will hopefully come back.  So A+ on the sprinkler repair, and C- on sod. They also had a sod roller that was missing the water cap, so it wasn't very heavy, and consequently did a poor job evening out the sod, which is still lumpy as a moonscape.

Also, I asked them to install a french drain and take it to the curb. They said they were unable to put a drain in the curb because of a gas line. Well, maybe, but all my neighbors have them, and now I have a pop-up drain that the top blows off of every time it rains hard. I think the truth is that they didn't have the tools to drill the concrete hole in the curb.

A friend recommended them to me. They are still doing work for me like mowing the lawn every week and tree pruning.

I obtained 3 bids and Ron Smith's was in the middle of them. His contract had less 'fine print' than another's. Ron came out twice to (patiently) answer my questions before I gave him the job. The longest delay was waiting for a city permit. He dropped of his crew off as scheduled, and they did a professional installation - including cleaning up afterwards. They set the cycles and explained how it could be changed. Then Ron inspected the work and had them make adjustments. And he did not expect to be paid until after the work was finished, inspected and approved. A couple of problems cropped up the next weeks, and they responded quickly to remedy them. I would have no hesitation using them again, and I have already recommended them to neighbors.

In contrast to other companies I have used over the years, Texas Lawns has consistently provided excellent service at a good price. Their people are courteous and careful about the property they are dealing with. In 3 years my only concern was a sprinkler head that was mowed though several times. They will fix these, but it was easy to do ourselves, and, after we found a way to put up a permanent small flag near that head, we have not had that problem again. This outfit is just the best.
