Joe Guest Masonry

Once the work is done and he is paid he will not answer or call back regarding the work he's done. He doesn't come when he says he's coming. Big liar. Look him up and believe the reviews. He done my work 2 months ago and I still haven't gotten an invoice or receipt.

We hired Joe Guest Masonry to do some outside brick work on a vacant property. We went to the property to inspect the work and made the mistake of paying for the job just as Joe Guest was finishing up at the property. There was a lot of brick debris left in the middle of the driveway and he assured us that he would have his crew remove it. The next day when we went by the property, the brick debris was still there. Thus began a series of phone calls and false promises and more excuses over the course of about four weeks. He even told us one time that he had removed the brick which was a blatant lie becuase when we went by the property to check on it the huge pile of brick debris was still there!!  Eventually, he just would hang up on us when we called and then finally, he no longer would answer his phone. We had to hire a removal service to get the brick removed from the driveway.   DO NOT TRUST THIS MAN. 

Looked beautiful when done; however, two (2) years later I am
still waiting for him to to acid wash and water seal the project.     I
fell for his story on needing to meet his payroll so paid him in full on
a Thursday with him promising he would return on Saturday to complete
the job.  MAJOR mistake on my part.  After numerous promises that
he will be here on such date and time, re-adjusting my schedule,
waiting and waiting with no courtesy call, I am truly frustrated.  I
have never heard of more excuses in my entire life put together...that
is, IF you can get him to return your call.  My patio has literally
fallen apart - very large stones are cracking, some are raised 1/4"  out
of the foundation, mortar (which was supposed to have an additive to
keep it from cracking away from the stones) is falling out in all areas,
a large portion of the patio has sunken into the ground (the area I
told him that I was having water problems with needed to be raised but
instead he lowered it, making it worse), etc.  The stress alone is bad
enough but now I have to deal with walking outside and stumbling on the
raised stones.  Initially I was impressed with his website and did not
know about Angie's List.  DO NOT USE THIS GUY.

When Joe was first contacted, we told him that our brick wall was falling. We were selling our house and the new buyer was using a VA loan. The VA inspector told us the wall had to be fixed and he needed paperwork saying the wall was safe by a licensed mason. Joe was called and said he could do this. Joe did the work and was payed. I was told, that he would send the paperwork to my email account. A week later I had still not received my paperwork. I could not reach Joe by phone, and if I did he would tell me that he would send it today, but he would not. When I did receive the paperwork a week and a half later, I gave it to the Va inspector. The Va inspector said the paperwork was no good because Joe was not licensed. I had to pay a structural engineer an additional 150.00 to inspect the wall and certify it. If you need your work to be certified then don't use Joe, but if not his work did look good at a fair price, and it passed the engineers inspection. I would suggest though that you get your receipt when you pay, don't agree to let him email it to you later.

Hired Mr. Guest to perform the work described above. Our main concern was that the mortar used in the repairs match the existing mortar, especially on the house so the repair would not stand out. Mr. Guest assured us that he would be able to match the mortar. Well, it didn't. Mr. Guest said he would come out and acid wash the mortar so it would better match the rest of the mortar. Mr. Guest has been a no-show for four previously scheduled appointments to perform the acid washing.
