We had a new floor installed in our bedroom as part of a master suite remodel. When the original floor guys came out to finish the floor (they were subs of the general contractor, we did not select them), they did a rough sand & found a number of places where drywall compound, etc. had been ground into the raw floor because it hadn't been properly covered at all times during the construction process.  The flooring guys believed a number of repairs would need to be made.  At this point, we stopped the work & brought in Rick Curiel of Prestige Hardwood Floors because we have a number of friends who have used Rick for large floor installation and/or finishing jobs, and they've all been very happy with him.  Rick came very promptly to look at the floor, & was the first to tell me (he could tell right away) that the material the previous contractor had used was #1 common white oak instead of the select white oak we have in the rest of the house (in spite of the fact that we had specified in the contract that the floor was to match existing in home).  Good to know, although there was nothing we could do about it at that point.  Rick said he believed he could sand out most of the bad places in the floor without need of repairs, and that the few places that didn't sand out wouldn't be too noticeable.  There was also a transition to the tile floor in the bathroom that the previous contractor had not completed/had botched, so Rick modified & installed an appropriate transition.  He finished the floor over a period of 5 days or so (there was a weekend in there), and we are tremendously pleased with it.  He matched the color to the existing floor in the hallway (which is over 5 years old) very closely.  Aside from doing great work, Rick also was super-clean; he didn't leave any splatters of stain on the baseboards or trim (which had already been painted), which I really appreciated as other hardwood floor contractors we've used have not been so neat.  Rick does great work, and he's a character--very entertaining!  We definitely will use Rick again in the future.
