Having been satisfied with a replacement of the A/C motor in late May of this year, I immediately called and left a message the evening of August 15th when my A/C's exterior unit shut off though the fan was blowing and the interior unit ran just fine. After leaving the message, I was able to restart the exterior unit with by flipping the breaker a few times - though it hadn't blown and shouldn't have been an issue.
The same service technician responded the following morning, calling me around 11am, and when I explained the issue, he asked me several questions then told me he would need to see the unit. I asked him how necessary it was, as I was on my way out of town, and he advised me to find the issue ASAP, so I postponed my trip for an hour and a half, pleased that he would be able to come out quickly.
Unfortunately, once he arrived, everything went south. He came in, immediately checked the interior unit, though I said nothing was wrong with it, then went and checked the exterior unit. This whole process took *maybe* ten minutes - I barely had time to secure my dogs in the guest room. When he came back in, he said it was because I clearly had not been changing the filter. A fair enough guess, as the previous visit, he had chastised me for not changing it enough. However, one scolding was enough to make me change it every single month since them. I told him this, and asked him if it was filthy, because I had changed it only two weeks prior. He said it was too clean, and that obviously I had changed it right before he came over. I explained that this was wrong, and he insisted that the issue could only have been caused by this. While he went to write up the ticket, I called my father, who had actually changed the filter because I tend to break things, and asked him to talk to the technician.
My concern was two-fold: one, I did not invite someone into my home to call me a liar instead of providing a service, and two, it seemed as though he had walked in, already decided on what the problem was and not really looked to see what could have caused the unit to shut off. When the technician returned, he spoke with my father but yet again refused to back down from his flawed diagnosis, saying that he'd and quot;been doing this a long time, and pretty much every single time, the people tell me they've changed the filter when they haven't.and quot; At this point, I was pretty irate. I asked him why I would call him over to my house to check the A/C, pay him the $65 call fee, and lie to him about what might be wrong with the air conditioner, and he couldn't give me an answer. I flat-out told him that he was wrong and needed to find another diagnosis, and he refused. Needless to say, the situation was fairly heated. In the end, I attempted to hand him my debit card so that he would just run it and leave, and he said that he wasn't going to make me pay for it. So I, admittedly a little inappropriately, told him he needed to leave immediately, that I would never be calling him out again, and I wanted him off my property NOW. He said he'd be glad not to come out to my house ever again and slammed the door, but not before wishing me a rather forceful and quot;Good day.and quot;
As soon as he walked out the door, I locked it (because I was so insulted, not because I felt threatened) and immediately dialed the company's number. The woman who answered the phone very patiently listened as I gave her an abbreviated version of events, completely honestly, and explained the two main concernsI had. She apologized for how the visit made me feel and assured me that she would have the owner give me a call when I returned from my trip, and if he thought at that point that he needed to come out and have a look, he would. I thanked her, tried to shake the ordeal off (unsuccessfully) and went about my road trip.
Unfortunately, no one from the company ever called me back after that day. So, when the same thing happened two weeks later, I called another company. This company sent a technician who patiently listened to my concerns, walked me through what he checked, explained how the filter appeared to have been recently changed due to my dogs (I hadn't changed it since the issue began), and managed to eventually determine, after about 35 minutes, that the air wasn't running through the filter right, so it was overloading the unit. He rigged up a little number to keep the filter held in the right spot, cleaned everything out, and charged me $75 for a service call.
So, you see, I was an honest, sane person who just needed a technician who would actually listen to my concerns and find the issue instead of making judgements about me based on...whatever he made them based on. My age, my neighborhood, the filter from the previous visit, what have you. I hate writing a negative review for a local company, but they definitely deserved one.

I have a pretty large house. I have air and heating units downstairs and upstairs - I had one system put in 2005 and one in 2007. I paid $7000 each for the downstairs and the upstairs but that was replacing the furnace heaters, the air pumps and the condensers outside. I bought top-of-the-line Trane units. They gave me options, and I could have gone as low as $3000 or $4000 but I chose the top-of-the-line units because I wanted a real durable system. They told me what the price was ahead of time. I haven’t had any break-downs or anything since they installed the units. I am still using them to come out to do my maintenance check. I am very happy with them.
