UPDATE: The AMS tech, Alex called me 3 days after the installation of the new system to tell me that he had contacted the manufacturer about replacing the compressor unit and received permission to proceed. Alex did this on his own, with no request from me. We made arrangements to meet at my house the following morning. Alex arrived on time and replaced the unit at no cost to me (equipment or labor). He stayed on-site until he could confirm that it was working properly. The new unit was much quieter than the first one which was installed. Alex really impressed me by taking the initiative and making sure that the equipment he installed was working as it was supposed to.
ORIGINAL POST:
I called Accelerated Mechanical Services (AMS) and was told that a tech would call me to make arrangements. Alex called about 15 minutes later and said that he'd be out to look at the unit. He arrived around 6:15pm.
We discovered that the compressor was dead and that I'd need a whole new system. Alex spoke several times with his boss and they came up with a proposal. Alex explained that I could go with a "Chevy or a Cadillac." A "Chevy" was going to cost about $3700 and a "Cadillac" would cost about $5000. I asked to go with a midrange option. Alex said that he's be back at 8:00am Sunday morning to install the new unit. A little later, Alex called me and explained that because of the holiday weekend, I'd have to pay extra to have someone open the warehouse on Sunday morning to pick up the new system. The total cost would be $4,000. I agreed (although I felt like I was being taken advantage of --- I really didn't have any options other than to agree to whatever price they wanted).
Alex showed up at 7:45am Sunday morning and got to work uninstalling the old system. At about 9:00am, another guy showed up with the new unit. By 11:30am, the old unit had been removed and the new unit was installed and running.
The new unit was VERY LOUD. Both Alex and the other guy said that it wasn't normal and that sometimes, the new units are bad from the factory. We took a "blanket" off of the old system and wrapped it around the new compressor to try to quiet it. It helped a little, but the compressor is still very loud. We agreed that we would give the unit a few days to see if it quieted down.
So far, the new unit is still very loud. I plan to call AMS later this week to have them take another look and decide whether or not to replace the compressor.

After replacing three compressors, they finally sent someone out to get the job done right. The person who did the first installation didn't evidently didn’t know what he was doing and they would burn out within a day. They were more than professional.
