Bottom Line Up Front: Mike Mayo with TPS needs to be YOUR plumber! Outstanding knowledge and service! Reasonable pricing.
Contacted Titan Plumbing Services via referral from neighbors. Called on a holiday and he answered immediately. I described my problem to him (leaking hot water heater (its 17 years old) and he made a service call same day to analyze and provide an estimate. He was willing to replace water heater next day, but we have a secondary water heater serving a separate bathroom and the kitchen, so I was more interested in options. The old water heater was in a HORRIBLE place in the attic and I wanted it moved to a more convenient location (easier to service and keep clean/flushed). Mike also included a potential "Hybrid" water heater (combined tankless/tanked "endless" hot water heater style) in his estimate. He spent plenty of time going over advantages/disadvantages of each and provided a three part estimate: 1) replace existing water heater in same location, 2) replace existing water heater in new location, and 3) Install hybrid water heater in convenient location. Written estimate/contract provide. We chose to stick with conventional water heater moved to a better location. The hybrid was about twice as expensive and I didn't want to spend that kind of money right now. Reviews of the hybrid were mixed and involved lots of "electronic" parts malfunctions. Sometimes "cave-man" technology is fine with me!
Mike scheduled appointment for the work, and called just before arriving to alert us and he was right on time! He and his assistant, Gabriel, did a professional job, thoroughly wrapping the old, leaky water heater in plastic before bringing it out from the attic, through the house and outside for disposal. when I inspected the work, Mike took the time to completely explain the new hot water heaters controls and functions. He even explained the re-routing of water and gas lines needed for the new location.
Summary: If you need plumbing service call Mike at TPS!
However, by the end of the job, we somehow went from four faucets to TEN faucets, four of which are not being used at all. Two are for the ice-makers that would NOT be routed through the water-purification systems with his set-up. (He knew the original, functioning set-up because he disconnected every thing before the kitchen was gutted!) Why would we not want ice made from purified water? We now also have an extra cold-water where the dishwasher is, and an extra hot-water where the free-standing ice-maker is. (?)
He did reimburse us for two of the four, but only after an unpleasant exchange in which I was accused of not diligently supervising his design-work. (?)
Separate from this kitchen project, we had asked that he suggest what to do in that we seemed to be running out of hot-water in the master shower. We are two, no children, and only shower in sequence, although we have more than one bathroom. I said that IF it required replacing water-tanks (we have a 50-gallon gas and an 80-gallon electric, both fairly new and not hooked up in tandem) that tankless could be a consideration on the table. Mike did the research and repeatedly hinted that the fix would be astronomical, but he wouldn?t name the number. He never came up with any alternate solutions, although he was in and out of this house over several weeks.
Finally, I called a couple of other plumbers to get a second opinion. A second plumber, Leon of Charlie?s Plumbing, checked our system out. He explained that if we were to go tankless, it would be a zillion dollars and why. Most importantly, he strongly suggested that we check out if the heating element on the electric tank was working, and, if it wasn?t, to replace it. (NO CHARGE - He talked himself out of a potentially huge job. HIRE these folks!). Our electrician came today and tested the connections, (which were faulty), the upper and lower elements (which were fine), upped the thermostat, and now we have unlimited hot water. $50. WOW! We went from multi-thousands to $50!
Our sense is that Titan Plumbing is NOT interested in saving you money. My husband and I are not interested in paying for unnecessary services or monetarily covering the mistakes of others, small or large.
"This is the second remodel that the member has done on her house, so, in no way was she totally dependent on me for advice. We performed the work according to her schedule and computer generated plans. the member drafted her own plans and design; she had worked on this for over a year according to her. Once her cabinets were installed the negative comments and complaining began, she was upset with the design and finish of the cabinets. She spoke badly about the other contractors whom she had chosen...all thru referrals, BTW. She explained that she and her lawyer husband were going to "sue" the cabinet maker if they would not come around to her way of thinking regarding the money; however she admitted to me that SHE was the one that designed the cabinets incorrectly. She became very upset with the flooring contractor after the finish she had chosen did not meet her liking. In my opinion, she found something wrong with the work so she could recuperate money from each contractor, and she did. After the project was complete, I did other work on her home, she had no complaints, and we even went back and changed the garbage disposer to the other side of the sink after she realized she had instructed us to put in on the wrong side...still no negative blood at this point. She even had us "sneak" in to do this when her husband had gone out of town on a business trip...she knew he would blow a gasket as the whole job had been a disaster from the start. These “Ten” faucets she refers to are actually water line stub-outs under the sinks. I installed new stub-outs and did so according to code. Each fixture is to have an independent cut-off and this is what I bid originally and what I provided in the end. Now regarding the water heaters, she asked about tankless heaters and I explained they would in fact cost a lot of money to install and that I did not think they would be the best option for her situation. I refused to give her a price for ANY work on her water heaters due to the experience that was developing during construction. Obviously the member had other intentions when she started her kitchen remodel. Her experience with me was amicable from the start and during the entire project (with the exception of the constant negative comments about the other contractors). We did everything she wanted and catered to her every desire, never once did she convey any displeasure with our work, until the very end. At this point I did refund the money for 2 water stub-outs. This project has been complete for several months now, and she has never shown any signs of displeasure with the work performed until now. It is my opinion that she was/is dissatisfied with the amount of money she was able to extort from me and this is her last resort to retaliate against me and my company."
