About us

The dog obedience training methods used at K9 Mastery are based on traditional German training philosophies that have produced the best and most reliable dogs the world has ever seen. These methods are highly disciplined and effective; however, it has taken years and hundreds of dogs to perfect the techniques used so they are successful on the average household pet which is neither as strong willed nor as driven as the dogs chosen for police and military work. These methods reject the use of treats in training and focus on the development of the owner into the Master of their dog. It is our belief that every dog needs a job and every dog needs a Master. Dogs thrive on structure and discipline, and through our balanced training methods you will see your dog flourish and become more bonded to you than ever before. Our methods use both praise and correction to clearly communicate your expectations to your dog in a way it will easily understand. Through controlled and graduated distractions your dog will learn to obey your commands in any and all situations, the first time, every time. We train outside because that is where the real world situations you encounter everyday occurr and where you will need the obedience the most, not in your livingroom. We believe that your dog is not just a pet, but a member of your family and a lifelong committment. We acknowledge that training is time consuming and hard work . . .and not always fun. However, results are earned, and the rewards you receive in return are boundless. The lifelong companionship you will experience is easily worth the short commitment and investment you make in properly training your dog. If you want a family member that is truly bonded to you, is a joy to experience on a daily basis, and is a companion you can take anywhere, then the training at K9 Mastery is for you.

I was very impressed with the trainer. I don't think we finished all eight weeks. I probably only used half of it. But that was just because the distance was so far from where I was. I was very pleased with her trainer methods and everything. I didn't pay anything more than the Big Deal. I would use them again in the future if they were a little closer.

It has gone very well. Max my dog is very good on a leash and listens when I give a command. I have also gained more confidence in working with my dog. My dog had fear issues and because he knows commands I can take him to new places and send him through a series of commands and he settles down and relaxes and is focused on me and following my lead. He is a favorite dog at the vet as he is such a good dog. I am now going to take my other dog through basic training. I would recommend her to anyone even if the dog does not display any outward misbehavior. Preventing bad behavior I think is key.

Train with Christine for several months but had to quit because I could
not train on Thursday anymore and Saturday morning would not work for
me. Liked what we did but was looking for more Obedience training.

I am a volunteer at a local animal shelter and I wrote the first review two years ago for K9 Mastery about my dog Sammie. She did so well - is still doing so well - that I've taken five other shelter dogs through training. These were dogs that had been languishing for several months, most with behavior problems of one sort or another; aggression to people, aggression towards other dogs, sometimes to both. People don't usually want to adopt dogs like that and my shelter has limited to no resources to help those kinds of dogs. Thanks to K9 Mastery, those dogs are now safe and sound in loving forever homes because they were well-trained and are well-behaved. Toby in particular so impressed his new owner that she is turning him into her service dog.

Pit Bull dogs are probably the hardest dogs in the USA to re-home. Whereas most other dogs get a little slack, Pit Bulls get none; they must be perfect. And Trixie was far from perfect. She was dumped at the shelter in October 2009 where she was ignored for a year until I decided to foster her and take her through K9 Mastery's training in hopes that training would make her more adoptable. Which it did. Christie took a fearful, 40 pound bundle of erratic - and at times autistic - dog who would bite people for no particular reason and turned her into a confident member of a family, She now belongs to a 5th grade boy in San Antonio and never leaves his side. In fact, by the time she was far enough along in her training, I had no less than five families wanting to adopt her, based solely on how well she was doing with her obedience. Otherwise, she was just another dog. Actually, not even that; she was just another Pit Bull. Training consisted attending group classes for once per week, for as long as it took complete the lesson that week. The other six days of the week were devoted to reinforcing what was done in class. We advanced to the next lesson once Christie was satisfied that we were ready. Sometimes we weren't but there was no penalty other than repeating the lesson until we "got" it.

Sammie is a dog with aggression issues that I adopted three years ago. She would bite people and attack other dogs and lately, even my own dogs. Distraught, I took her to a well known and highly regarded (and now deceased) trainer in the area who told me to euthanize her. Luckily, Christie Miller convinced me to let her take a crack at Sammie and I am very happy to report that after just a few weeks of training, Sammie became a different dog, well on her way to being a model citizen. Normally, Christie charges $300 for her 10 week training classes (basic, intermediate and advanced) but because this other trainer recommended death for Sammie, she reduced the charge to $0; she is that committed to saving dogs from unnecessary death. Sammie has completed her basic class and is now in intermediate. I am amazed and impressed with my "new" dog. I look forward to her continued progress.
Response from K9 Mastery
"Thanks member! I'm so glad that you are happy with everything! You are the one that has put in all the work though, so you should get the rating! Just a note, the classes are actually 8 weeks for each level of obedience."
