Auto Sales
$12,500
When my husband I arrived at Rico's Motors we were greeted by Tony; we were bit apprehensive in buying a used vehicle as our last purchase had come with a lot of hidden cost. I explained this to Tony and he was very reassuring in saying he would "take care of us." We test drove two vehicles and decided on a 2008 Nissan Titan. Before purchasing we asked for the CarFax and were told they "don't do that here." We were again assured that the car had a new battery, and was in great condition. They told us they had mechanics look at all of there vehicles and this one was good. With our trade in we ended up with a final purchase price of about $12,300. We thought that was reasonable. They gave us a free oil change and we continued on our way, being told that if there were any issues to call and they would take care of it. Within 2 hours of purchase we realized the cruise control didn't work and called and spoke with Tony, he told us since it was a holiday weekend to contact him on that Monday. When I called him on Monday he told us they would see what they could do, not even promising they would actually fix it, but that we would need to find another mode of transport for a minimum of 24 hours and that they wouldn't be able to help us with a potentially lending a vehicle until ours was fixed unless they absolutely had to. We decided at that point to take it to our own mechanic. Five days later we started smelling something rotten when the truck was running. We took it to a garage and were told that the battery was bad, and that it was the wrong type of battery for our vehicle. We bought a new battery, costing us over $100. Two weeks later the tires started leaking air we looked into what could be going on only to find out they were the wrong size tires for the truck. We had to replace all 4 at a cost of almost $900. When I called and spoke to Tony letting him know what all had happened and that I was extremely disappointed; he told me I should have called and maybe they could have helped out. I responded to this by asking if he could do anything, he said no, because everything was already taken care of. He did nothing to make it right, and was rude to me in response. His attitude said to me that he already received his money and he didn't truly care as he had so vehemently claimed before our purchase. It goes beyond being rude and uncaring, they don't check their vehicles for quality. And though they claim to have mechanic look at everything, how would a good mechanic miss something so simple as the wrong battery? I would never go back here, and I would strongly recommend others don't go either.
Response from RICO MOTORS
"We would like to begin this rebuttal by saying we have been proud members of the BBB for several years now & we are the only local used car dealership who has never had any complaints for 8+ yrs., therefore have advertisement on the BBB website among other local outlets because of our outstanding service. When the [member name removed] arrived at our local establishment they test drove two vehicles & chose the 2008 Titan. Because our vehicles are pre-loved we offer a complementary warranty with every sale as long as any complaints are brought in a timely manner & repairs are made with at the contracts specified locations. When they complained about the cruise control we made them aware that we would fix it but we needed the vehicle for 2-3 days, we offered transportation services for them while they waited for their vehicle; which they refused because they specifically wanted a “loaner” car. At that time [member name removed] said she would take the vehicle to her own mechanic. They chose to not inform us of the other issues until weeks later & repairs had been made by them. We would have fixed them if they would have made us aware of the additional issues."
