Professionalism, Puncuality, and Responsiveness
Had to call plumber a total of 4 times to come to my house. He stated he would call back, but I never did, so I had the burden of having to confirm appointments several times, though he did answer the phone most of the times. When he finally made some time, he did arrive timely. It seemed he didnt set up appointments per se when hes really busy. He just tries to and quot;fit you in.and quot; I wouldnt have minded a courteous and quot;Ill have to book you in two weeks.and quot; If he would have just said that, instead of saying and quot;maybe I'll make it, maybe I won't.and quot; I decided to go along with him because of the good Angie's List ratings. Overall, I don't find the company professional or punctual, and well, just responsive enough if you keep calling... He was not defensive or mean, though, when I approached him about it, he stated his side and tried to justify his responsiveness and the price he charged. Perhaps the price was fair, I have no point of comparison, but he wasn't transparent or clear during the phone call or when he was on site.
Quality
He did the job, and was very quick. He didn't bother to throw out the trashed parts, though, which implies to me he is not detail-oriented.
Price
Another unprofessional quality. Over the course of the 4-5 phone calls, he was not able to give full details, and perhaps it's due to my ignorance in plumbing and personal perception, but the price I had understood over the phone was $65 for an hour’s worth of work, and $18 for the Thermal Couple. No mention of any other possible costs. This is after I had already told him it was probably the thermal couple. The $18 was accurate, and he didn’t charge more for that. The labor, however, was very unclear, either purposely by him, or my fault for not asking more details (is it really my responsibility? He's the expert). You be the judge. Turns out this was the total cost to change a Thermal Couple:
- $65 service call (after phone call, I thought this was the total cost for 1 hour’s worth of work, regardless of what it consists of. Apparently, it wasn’t).
- $20 to change the part (took 20 minutes, did not state this cost over phone even after I mentioned this was probably the issue).
- $12 to test for carbon monoxide (he didn’t state this costs extra over the phone, so, surprise! And he didn’t ask me if I wanted the test when he arrived, he basically just did it, and charged me for it).
- $18 parts (this was the only clear and accurate quote).
All in all, when it's not transparent up front, and I need to call several times because he doesn't do appointments when he's very busy... I'd just rather try someone else.
