Ultimately the work done by Diversified Home Services came out O.K. He started at the beginning of August and he finished last week. It was supposed to be an 8 day job. He is very fast, but he is very sloppy and careless. He needs to be supervised and I had to have him do a lot of do overs. He was supposed to put back together two bathrooms, the main bathroom and the master bath. I had torn them down to the studs, I needed him to come back in and put in the particle board, the other wall board, skim coat it, seal it, put the waterproofing membrane, and then I wanted him to tile the wall and the floor. I had to take a couple of sections of wall board down because he put holes where there were not to be holes. He claimed to have done a lot of experience, but he is very young. He took a lot of shortcuts. It was a little bit of an education for him as well. By our calculations we had enough tile, but because of how he used the tiles we had to stretch our tile supply with glass mosaic. He always made cuts off new tiles, instead of using the previously cut tile first. He would mix up to much polymer each time and then it would have to be thrown out the next time he came and at $30 a bag that was an expensive endeavor. He didn't really have an eye for design or for the finished product. He had assured me he had lots of experience in pouring a shower pan and there were problems. He would start at the wall with a full tile, where most people would start at the center of the field and have a border of the smaller tile all the way around instead of just one wall. He just plowed straight ahead. He is willing to work. He has a billion tools and he knows how to use most of them. He can fix most things. He had a lot of trouble putting on a shower valve and now I have to have it looked at. He needs to be supervised. The initial price was great, but I had to buy extra materials and it took longer than expected. With supervision his work is fine, but left to his own devises it is not as good. He is pretty Johnny on the Spot. I wouldn't use him for tile work, but maybe for mowing my lawn.
