General Remodeling
The project proceeded badly. As Stuart Hall and his employees began the remodel, problems arose daily. The cabinets Stuart Hall provided were the wrong color and we provided an opportunity for him to fix the cabinets, which resulted in more problems. Doors and drawers were not aligned correctly and would not close properly. Door spacing is not the same throughout the cabinetry. Sliding trays would not pull out. Electrical cutouts did not match up with the outlet. Bad measurement resulted in the microwave tray being installed halfway over the sink and the counter being too long, which caused the refrigerator to extend out beyond the wall. The poor installation of the cabinets resulted in seams that are not even. The flooring tiles were not laid with a level and most tiles are uneven and many tiles exceed the allowable lippage for the tiles. The protruding floor tiles are a tripping hazard and each member of my family has tripped multiple times on a protruding tile. Stuart Hall removed a load bearing wall and replaced it with a structural beam. A crack appeared in the wall at a later date and we halted the work to seek a city inspection. Stuart Hall was cited by the city inspector for failing to pull electrical, plumbing, and structural permits. Stuart Hall was also cited by the Texas Board of Licensing and Regulation for the electrical violation and the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners for the plumbing violation. The breakfast bar is not level and is supported with a stick. The stove was to fit under the breakfast bar, but the stove is taller than the breakfast bar and was shoved under the bar causing a compression dent in the stove. The pantry door was cut incorrectly and cannot be framed properly as is. All our hallway doors do not close properly and the frame around one door was not assembled correctly. Walls and entry ways built by Stuart Hall and his employees are crooked. Doors were not covered when paint was applied and several doors have paint on them and a door which was not to be painted was painted. All our electrical outlets are open and the switches are unsecured. There are no lights or fans in the den or new pantry, just electrical wires extending from the ceiling and from incomplete outlets. The granite to which the sink is anchored to is cut too wide for the sink and does not properly meet up with the cabinetry on one end. Our kitchen does not have running water for a sink, dishwasher, or for the freezer to make ice. Our kitchen does not have an operating stove. The holes cut out for several of the circular light fixtures in the kitchen exceed the diameter of the lights and you can see gaps. C & S Hall Construction is a limited liability company and limited liability is exactly what my family discovered as attempts to hold Stuart Hall and his employees accountable for the damage and destruction in our home did not provide a resolution which would satisfactorily restore our home to a livable condition. Stuart Hall was asked to complete the inspection of the structural beam he installed to meet the city code and to ensure my family and I that our home was structurally sound and that request went unanswered. Our request to have Stuart Hall fix the hazardous flooring have also gone unanswered. Independent contractors have evaluated the damage and destruction generated by Stuart Hall and his employees and the low estimate of the cost to fix our home is approximately $31000. Our attempt to negotiate a settlement with Stuart Hall through his attorney is approximately $10000, less than 1/3 of what it will cost our family to restore our home.
