DS PROFESSIONAL DRYER VENT & CHIMNEY SWEEP SERVICE
About us
Owned and operated by Patti Hicks-Chovan and Sam Chovan. We are Members of Chamber of Commerce in Dripping Springs and Lake Travis. We have expanded into the Bee Cave / Lake Travis, Spicewood and Marble Falls/Horseshoe Bay area since our move from Dripping Springs to Lake Travis in 1995. We can assure you that our good name and reputation have been carried on. Plan ahead to have your chimney cleaned and inspected by a qualified chimney sweep on a schedule. Mold and hazardous residues are inside and can escape into your home. Protect your health as well as reduce possibilities of chimney fires. Even if you are not using your fireplace, the chimney crown and flashing need to be inspected for leaks at least every three years.

chimney. However, we skipped last year and were paying the price. Smoke
was not being pulled up and out of the chimney as it should; instead, it
was pouring into the house. We called DS but had to wait because of
their heavy schedule - our fault for skipping a year, since we burn a
cord to a cord and a half each year and know that their recommendation
is once a year for that amount of wood burned.
Patty and Sam arrived 30 minutes late, but called ahead to say they would be late
because the previous job required that much longer to make repairs to
the firebox. In their typical methodical fashion, and wearing all the
proper safety gear, Sam went to work on the dryer vent with his vacuum
after moving the dryer away from the wall and Patty cleaned the firebox
and grate with her vacuum. When Sam finished the dryer vent cleaning he
moved to the living room and assessed the chimney condition by shining a
light up the chimney. He put on ear and nose protection and covered the
area around the fireplace with plastic sheeting to protect the house
from the black soot. Using a drill with various brushes and extensions
to allow cleaning to the top of the chimney and a vacuum to suck up the
falling soot, he spent approximately 30 minutes making certain it was
thoroughly clean. Next he inspected the firebox for cracks or other
things that might have to be repaired, but found none. He replaced the
grate, gathered his gear and went to do the final step in the process -
the roof. While he prepared to go up, Patty put the living room area
back like it was, removing all the plastic and closing the screen. Sam
checked the flashing around the area where the chimney exits the roof to
make certain that there were no areas exposed that could lead to water
leaking into the house. Sam gave the roof area a thumbs up.
Patty and Sam did a thorough job in the time frame they said, and the invoice
was exactly as quoted when I first contacted them. They will be on the
schedule next year for sure so we don't have a repeat of this year.
They show up on time, do the job quickly and cleanly. Informed me about the importance of dry vent cleaning.
