Project went well. Thomas was very responsive. Came by the house the same day of the initial contact (lucky he was in the area that day). Gave a fair, competitive price and installed the day he originally committed to. He stayed with his crew the entire day - project probably took longer than expected - and made sure all was installed properly.

I recently used this company to replace my kitchen counter tops with new granite. All in all, not a good experience. I'll start with the good, which may be all that matters to some. Their prices were comparable to other granite installation companies. The quality of craftsmanship, as far as the cutting and installing the granite, was very good. There's not one thing I would want to change about the installation. And now for the bad: Thomas, who I believe is the owner and is unfortunately the person you will be dealing with, really needs to work on his people skills. He'll come off like he cares about his customers; that is until he gets your business. Then it's attitude, missed appointments, late for appointments, rescheduled appointments, and excuses after excuses: "we're getting slammed (not my problem), fighting with the city (again, not my problem), granite supplier held us up, sink won't be received in time (What? It's a sink, go to Home Depot!), I'm having a family crisis (which I won't go into because I have no details), etc". All the excuses and missed/ late appointments (which he did credit me $300 for) are bad enough, but throw in his flaky, condescending attitude and it was more than I could bear. The day he came to do the installation, which I felt like I had to beg him to do after 12 days of no kitchen (yes, tear out to install was 12 days), he had a really bad attitude until I asked him if he had a problem. Also, I don't know about you, but when you hire a company to do work inside your house, is it OK for them to show up in flip flops? Maybe it's just me, but I don't think it looks very professional. To add to everything else, the owner and the workers both decided to bring guests over to my house. They were walking around my back yard, using my bathroom and basically coming in and out as they pleased. Again, not very professional. So after installation, I felt like I had to beg him for an appointment to put the sealer on. We set up an appointment to do the sealer at 3pm, because I told him that's what time I get home from work. At 2:50 he texts me to let me know he's waiting and makes me feel like I need to hurry because he has a 3:15 appointment and doesn't want to be late. What? So basically now that he's already been paid in full, putting the sealer on my new granite is definitely not high on his priority list. The finish on the granite is very dull and streaky. Not shiny at all. Yes, it's a natural stone and is not going to feel completely smooth to the touch, but it darn well needs to be shiny. We're looking into getting a professional out to redo the finish. All I can say is thank God this guy is out of my house. Bottom line: I would not recommend this company to anyone. However, if you do end up using them, make sure you don't pay in full until after the sealer is applied to your satisfaction.
Response from Houston Granite Works
"[removed member name] I as a business owner am very displeased that continue to leave bad reviewes about my company on different sites. Now you have failed to say why your kitchen took 12 days sir , that you work grave yard shifts and could not do the Install on the available dates we had for you. And that you requested the install 7 days from the date we planned. Our that my business is located only a few blocks from you and that if you had any issues or concerns with anything you could have contacted my company. Sir I'm glad the your pleased with the quality of work. Sometimes the best I can do as a business owner. I am sorry you feel as that you've had such a bad experience. Thomas CEO.
