On October 15, 2009, I entered into a contract with Billy Jones Construction to remodel 5 rooms in my home. I paid Matt (the man that did the bid for the company) $2,500.00 to get supplies. Work began on October 19, 2009. Three days later on October 22, 2009, the company was asking for more money in the amount of $2,000.00. I paid this even though very little work had been done. Matt said that this last payment would pay for the rest of the materials for my remodel. From October 23- October 30, 2009 the only thing accomplished was they put up paneling to cover my ceiling in one room, painted the ceiling of one room and removed wallpaper on only half of a wall that had the wallpaper. They were hired to do a Kitchen renovation including new cabinets, install wood flooring in living and kitchen, install French doors, paint several rooms, enclose a doorway to make a wall, increase a closet door size and much more. On October 30, 2009 Matt asked for yet more money in the amount of $800.00. I refused to pay this because out of the five rooms that we had a signed contract to remodel, not one room was done. The remodel consisted of the living room, dining room, two bedrooms, kitchen. Matt then asked for $500.00. I overheard him on the phone telling someone that he was trying to get the money and that whoever was on the phone could meet him at the bank when he had it. As of October 30, 2009, I had no supplies needed to even start the major parts of the remodel. All I had was some paint, paneling and trimwork. I had no flooring, no kitchen cabinets, no French doors, etc. On November 1, 2009 I arranged to meet with Matt and Mr. Billy Jones the owner of the company. I explained that we have no supplies after being told that the money would buy the rest of the supplies and no work was being done because they had no supplies to get the work done. The work that was done was shoddy at best. He installed beaded paneling crooked. Instead of allowing for the slope in the floor of this house, he installed the paneling crooked. He had paint drips running all over the part he did actually paint. He put up corner molding and did not even miter the edges so that the corners fit together. He said most people don't want that. I have never seen molding that was not mitered. He dropped paint on my good living room furniture, on my new television, on my living room heater, on the wet bar and all over the garden stepping stones outside my house where the cleaned their brushes in my yard and got paint every place. On November 1, 2009 Matt, Billy Jones and I agreed that no more money would be given until at least half of the rooms were finished. No work was completed on November 2, 2009. On November 3, 2009 I fired Billy Jones Construction. I subsecuently had to hire another company and pay for the remodel all over again. On February 16,2010, I won a judgement against Billy Jones Construction in the amount of $4,592.00 in the Precinct Two, Angelina County small claims court. The day before I fired Billy Jones Construction, Matt asked me if I was going to sue him. Billy Jones Construction has yet to pay me the judgement that I won. I have a lien on their house in Diboll, Texas and will continue to try to collect. This company clearly had little if any remodeling skills and took on this job that was well above their capabilities.
Description of Work: Very little of the services I contracted with Billy Jones Construction were performed and most were performed in a sub-standard manner. The company installed beaded paneling sheets in the ceiling of my living room and left almost every piece sagging from the ceiling. They painted this ceiling. The beaded paneling was not lined up to match as in one continuous piece. The lines on the paneling were off set. They removed wallpaper on half of a room. They put a piece of paneling over a doorway in the dining room. They cut a hole for a closet door in a bedroom. They put trim work and beaded paneling up incorrectly in a bedroom. They painted one bedroom and partially painted a dining room. Paint had drip marks through out. This was the extent to what they finished for a price of $4, 500.00. Not one room of the 5 rooms they were to remodel was finished.
