This was the worst experience I've ever had with a contractor. We are now spending double what we had budgeted just to go back and fix his mistakes. Overall - very, VERY poor quality of workmanship. He is cheap because that is what his work is reflective of - poor, cheap quality. We paid Michael to scrape the popcorn off our ceilings and repaint all of our doors. Our project was pushed by a week after ensuring that the work would be done on a specific date, which caused a lot of issues bumping our movers and other handymen, etc. that we had scheduled to do things in our house before we moved in. The edges of all of the retextured sheetrock were very rough - no clean lines anywhere. Touch up paint was sloppy and will have to be redone. Texture from the ceiling was stuck to all of our blinds (I am now having to clean every single slat in all blinds by hand). Texture and ceiling paint was dripped onto our new carpet and not cleaned until we pointed it out to him. Higher surfaces (shelves in closets, cabinets, ledges) were not cleaned - tons of popcorn residue left. He ruined our banister and balusters because he did not cover/protect it well (carelessness). They tried to cover it up by re-staining it a darker color, dripping stain onto our new carpet and down our white balusters.... Only to try to cover it up with one coat of paint that did not match the existing balister paint color. He used flat ceiling paint (who does that??!) to repaint all of our doors - neglecting to match the existing paint of the door trim. He claimed that 'matching paint wasn't part of our deal'. We are now spending thousands more to find someone else to fix all of his mistakes and poor workmanship. After all was finished we brought him back (after 6 weeks of him not responding to my calls, texts and emails) show him the mistakes .. to which he claimed not my fault. He could not admit to the poor quality of work and mistakes. We also had to physically haul and pay to dump all of his trash that he left without telling us - 25 HUGE garbage bags full. Thankfully, we have a truck, otherwise, we would have been SOL! I recommend you spend the extra thousand or so and hire someone reputable that can produce quality work and with a better work ethic overall. This guy will take your money and run.
Description of Work: Scraped the popcorn texture off of our ceilings, re-texture and paint the ceilings, paint all doors in the house.

MAP construction and its owner have failed to legally, morally and ethically perform their financial obligations for services rendered once payment had been received and a Lien Release was signed by the owner of the company, Michael Paulson. There were 4 payments made to MAP Construction to satisfy the $19650 contract. The first dated 6/24/10 check #2617 in amount of $2000, 2nd check #2624 dated 7/22/10 in amount of $5250.00, 3rd check #2625 in amount of $8650.00 dated 7/28/10, 4th check #2633 in amount of $3750.00 dated 8/13/10. On payment MAP owner, Michael Paulson signed a Lien Release indicating that he was paid in full for the contract. This represented the completion of my financial responsibility for payment for the services within the scope of the contract. Within 60 days I then received a certified letter from the carting company, engaged by MAP construction, indicating that the contractor had failed to pay for carting services. The carting company is Republic Services, 1212 Harrison Avenue, Arlington, TX 76011. The debt incurred is in the amount of $11940.83 and additional late fees are continuing to accrue. This formal written complaint is rendered indicating that MAP construction has failed to satisfy its obligation to Republic Waste Services. MAP has therefore perpetuated a fraud which needs to be made public and brought to the membership of Angie?s List. MAP construction has elected to fail to act professionally, morally, legally and ethically with no intent to resolve this matter. The members of Angie?s List should be made aware of this matter immediately so that no other consumer nor business has this same fraud levied upon them. Within the website of MAP construction they portray that they will listen to complaints, enter arbitration to resolve matters of this nature. MAP construction has failed on all accounts. As a result of the failure to satisfy their financial responsibility to Republic Waste, I am faced with a Lien that has been placed on my property for a project that I have satisfied my financial obligation. Member update:Please be advised that as I am progressing with the rebuilding of my office I find that since MAP construction has failed to pay Republic Waste/Allied Waste I am unable to gain credit with other vendors/subcontractors. Why? The reason is that these companies, when conducting their due diligence for granting credit, see that there has been a Lien filed against the property. To these companies this represents that I, as the owner, have failed to pay my debt to other contractors/vendors. In this case the only Lien filed, against the property, is by Republic/Allied Waste the very company that MAP construction failed to pay. As you saw from the supporting documentation, I have provided Angies List, I have in fact paid MAP construction in full. I have received, and provided you a copy, of a signed Lien Waiver from Michael Paulson with MAP construction. Now that MAP construction has been paid in full, kept the money and failed to satisfy Republic/Allied Waste, this Lien has prevented me from gaining credit from other contractors/vendors. This further complicates the rebuilding of my office for an act of FRAUD committed by one of your APPROVED contractors. All due to the FRAUD perpetrated by Michael Paulson and MAP construction.
Description of Work: MAP construction was engaged via a written contract dated June 18, 2010 to perform the demolition and removal of a 2000sf, one story, brick office structure that was destroyed by a fire. This contract was to be completed within a 6-10 day time frame. Copy of contract can be provided for review as needed. Copy of all payments and Lien Release signed by the owner of the company will also be provided for review.

Response from MAP Construction
First of all I did not perpetrate any type of a fraud against the member and or Allied Waste Company as described by him. I shall explain the facts with the documentation to prove that I did not commit fraudulent acts as accused. 1. He knows that Forward Trucking was the subcontractor he was the only one performing the work as described not to mention all of the conversations that he had with Forward on the job site. 2. I did not have an account with Allied Waste Forward Trucking did, see Allied Waste Sam Duran 972-422-2347 ext 25014 in accounts. Please call to confirm. 3. We Paid Forward Trucking in full per our contract and he signed a lien release fur the mentioned property stating that he had paid all other venders, suppliers, subs, employees, etc regarding this property and would Not allow liens to be placed on the property not to mention to hold and Indemnify and to defend us and the owner as noted, so we no reason to believe that he was not paying his vender. 4. I informed him months ago that I am working on resolving this issue, few exhibits below. A. I have been working with Allied Waste to recover this invoice amount from Forward Trucking as a witness regarding Forward Trucking fraudulent acts in this matter since September 2010. B. I have been working with Plano, TX Police Detective Speaker @ 972-941-2661 regarding criminal charges against Forward Trucking for committing fraud against my company and Allied Waste as well as the owner. Please call to confirm. C. My lawyer sent a demand letter to Forward Trucking to pay his bill of $10,413 .26 and to remove said lien. D. My lawyer discovered that the lien that was placed on the mentioned property was improperly executed and did not meet the Texas property code requirements, guidelines, and is an illegal document filing according to the property code statue with no legal lien rights and or any merit. 5. Closing A. I am working on defending and removing the lien from his property as noted. B. I was the one who was deceived and defrauded by Forward Trucking in many areas including them telling me that they were making payments to Allied 'Waste during the job progress, I had no reason not to believe him due to he had worked for me for the past 8 years with no issues until I was informed by the owner that Allied Waste was going to put a lien on the member’s property due to Forward Trucking, once I received this info I started calling .Forward and he told me that the IRS froze his bank account? C. The member is wrong about the amount he stated of $12,260.16 owed to Allied Waste according to them the amount that Forwards Trucking owes them are $10,413.26 as enclosed. D. Please feel free to check my history and you will find that I have no such history of committing fraudulent acts and or misleading others. E. I certainly do not deserve the character assassination that has been perpetrated against my company and myself that has no merit as noted. Michael Paulson-Manager-Manager
