They showed up around 8:05 AM but sat in their truck for another 5 minutes. As soon as they got out of the truck, I went to go speak to them. There was a slight drizzle at the time. The guys asked me if I wanted them to work, I told them it was up to them. They said they would work as long as they could. In hindsight, I should have asked to come back another day. I immediately showed them the zones I was concerned with and fully explained what steps I had already taken. I went back into house. Twenty minutes later I looked outside, and the guys were adjusting sprinkler patterns on the rest of the system. An hour after they first arrived, they began to finally address the primary issues I called about. On of the guys began to dig up around the sprinkler heads. Of course that is to be expected. Checked in again about 30 minutes later and he had haphazardly dug out a section longer than 10 foot. Few minutes later, I had no water in my house. Fortunately, I had already gotten ready for work that day. In the meantime the other technician repaired the other zone that simply had a bad diaphragm. After about an hour and 50 minutes at my house, the technician that had dug up my yard, had made the repairs to the clogged line and began to put the dirt back. Emphasis on dirt because he had completely torn up all the grass. The guys were completely finished by the time I left for work at 10:10 AM. They said they would put the invoice in my mailbox.
I got back home around 6:00 PM to find the invoice in my mailbox and opened it up. I was only slightly shocked. Total invoice was for $295. I had been billed for 2.5 hours. The next morning, I started noticing several different things around my house. First thing was that one of the technicians used my water hose. Not a big deal, but HE LEFT ON THE WATER HOSE. Second, remember how I said my water had been cutoff? Well the technicians had cutoff the water, but did not replace the cover to the cutoff box, leaving the hole in my lawn fully exposed. Not really a liability I care to have.
I immediately called Denton Lawn Sprinkler but they were closed. I called again the next morning. The receptionist explained that the technicians should have addressed my concerns FIRST, and then checked out the whole sprinkler system. She said that her boss would call me later that day. She did not. I called again the next day, the receptionist said her boss would call me the next day. She finally gave me a call on the second day.
One of my first questions was why I was billed for 2.5 hours. She said that all the trucks were equipped with GPS. She said the technicians truck arrived at my place at 8:03 AM. I explained that might have been the case, but they did not get out of the truck for another 5 minutes. I explained that I left for work at 10:10 after speaking to the technicians. She said the technicians left at 10:38 AM. She said they were probably still cleaning up and writing up the invoice. I told her that they had already cleaned up all their tools. I asked if I was billed for them to write up the invoice. She said yes. It took them about 25 minutes to write the invoice. AND I WAS BILLED AT A RATE OF $95 AN HOUR FOR THEM TO WRITE ME AN INVOICE. She explained that this is commonplace. As for tearing up my lawn, her only answer was that it was wet so the soil wouldn't hold together and they couldn't do anything about that. She didn't not have a good answer for my other concerns. At least she was loyal to her employees.
I should mention that she did agree to remove a half hour of billing for my troubles. Don't exactly know how to feel about that as I don't feel that I should have been billed $40 plus to write up an invoice. Another thing that I noticed when I was at Lowe's was that water sprinkler diaphragm was a shade under $7. I was billed about $24. I would expect a little mark up. BUT IS A +300% MARKUP ON PARTS SOLD TYPICAL?
I won't be using Denton Lawn Sprinkler in the future to repair my sprinkler system. In addition, the poor level of service and response to my concerns will probably result in me canceling my lawn service. I have been using them for the past year and half to maintain the condominium complex that I partially own.
