Computer Repair
$400
His first visit was to address problems that an on-line tech support company had left me with. Their “help” left me with no access to my keyboard or mouse – effectively locked out. The guy couldn't’t figure out how to solve this problem and their solution was to re-install Windows. This lost all my data. (The tech company that caused the problem in the first place DID come back to me and retrieve that lost data that this guy couldn't’t. As we were discussing the issues and what I needed / wanted he came up with a suggestion that he would build me a gaming class computer for $400.00. I am on a tiny fixed income and he agreed to let me pay this off as I could. I diverted all the money I could to him and after quite a while with no action he began (he said) to build the computer. He came to me frequently asking for more money and I squeezed out what I could. The computer was finally delivered and I began to use it. The case was (and still is) unfinished with a screen missing both on the front and back. He kept promising that he’d take care of that. It was somewhere in the 3 or 4 week range when the computer apparently fried the graphics card he’d installed. When I tried to reach him I was told he was out of town and couldn't’t do anything. He eventually quit taking my calls. By the time he returned (almost 2 weeks later) I had had to order and pay for a new graphics card. I had had to take my computer to another local facility to get the new graphics card installed. They discovered and showed me several things that had been left undone or done oddly. Most of this was physical construction issues with the case. He showed up when he returned home and persuaded me to pay the remaining portion of the $400.00 (about $75.00). He fiddled around and didn’t really fix any of the case issues then left promising to return and use glue to attach pieces he’d left out or loose. That is the last I ever saw of him. When he didn’t think he could extract any more money he just quit. No contact from him since.
Response from CPU Remote
"I am sorry that Member was displeased. When I last saw Member I had set up his computer to his satisfaction. The two covers for the empty CDROM slots would not stay in place and he needed the back dust shield. At that time a family emergency came up. My granddaughter was hospitalized. We had to rush 200 miles away and I did not feel that two ill-fitting covers was more important than my families welfare. As far as not transferring data, I did transfer data to the new computer. When I couldn't transfer programs like I had told him before he agreed to to the deal. I have over 40 years experience in computers and I don't understand why he posted what he did. I believe Members comments were from misunderstanding the situation."
