Billy Lee Marble Tile & Granite

Sub-contractor arrived as scheduled and began removing old laminate counter tops. The installation team was professional, but a little careless, damaging some refinishing work done to the cabinets the previous day. Installation went fairly smoothly until they dropped and broke one of the sections while unloading/bringing into the house for installation. Fortunately, it was a smaller section and they still had some of the raw material left and were able to return to their shop, fabricate a new section and have it installed before the end of the same day. My issue is with a cracked section around the opening for the sink. The crack started on the far side of the sink and continued along the same line on the near side. The crack is visibly noticeable even after an attempt to repair it the day following the initial installation (despite my request for a new section of granite). Since then, the crack on the near side of the counter has started to "crumble". We purchased a "premium" quality granite rather than going with the entry-level quality. As a consumer, when purchasing a product, whether it is goods or services, there is a reasonable expectation for that good/service to be delivered undamaged. I was not given an opportunity to inspect the raw granite for defects prior to Lee Marble's fabrication, but THEY should have and if it was defective/cracked, THEY should have had it replaced prior to the fabrication process. If THEY damaged it during the fabrication process, they should take responsibility for the damage and replace that section of granite at their expense. At the very least they should be working with us to make it right -- whether it is a replacement of that section of granite at their cost or a repair that lasts longer than a week. I've called the owner of Lee Marble and left messages twice in the past couple of weeks and he's not had the decency to return my calls. I've contacted the prime contractor and will work through him for resolution. UPDATE 6/6: Finally received a return call on 6/5 and arranged to have their team out to repair the crack. I'm satisfied that it is as fixed as it's going to get, but still not happy that it was cracked to begin with and the effort it took on my part to get it fixed.
