They call themselves a custom builder, but I would call them more of a semi-custom builder. I bought a spec house and modified a few items as part of the contract. The work was supposed be done in plenty of time to meet our closing date. They didn't start until very late, failed to perform the work properly, and generally had no focus on quality or timing. We ended up closing late which was a major inconvenience for my family. Not only did they not perform the work well, they damaged other parts of the house in the process and then called it "industry standard". After moving in we found numerous issues that needed to be fixed. Windsor has been very unprofessional while dealing with these fixes. They have been reluctant to do anything without major escalation and follow up on my part. The workmanship has been largely inferior. The sub-contractors they use are not of high quality and the Windsor builders are never there to supervise. When you call to report an issue they act like they have no idea how it was supposed to have been done and they defer to the sub-contractor who has no incentive whatsoever to tell you the truth.
Windsor Homes look nice and they seem like a deal when compared to other Builders, but I can say that they are largely not. They do use some building materials that are superior (ZipWall), but that trend is not carried throughout the home, and in many cases they cut corners. Their service after the sale is horrible.
I bought a Highland Home when I first moved to DFW that was almost $150k cheaper and in many ways it was better built. Highland certainly provided much better service after the sale.
I would not recommend Windsor Homes TX.
