Starr Construction

About 8 or 9 years ago, this company did some remodeling for me with success. However, three years I ago I hired him again to do a patio cover. The end result is that it was done so poorly that it had to be completely redone by another company AND Mr. Starnes walked away with about $2,000.00** of my money which he should have returned so that I could pay the other company to replace it. In fact, when I re-purchased a special material from the company that had originally sold it to him, they actually came out to my home and took pictures to use in their training class of what NOT to do. The only advantage to me was that they gave me a discount on the repurchased material for their use of the photos. However, the worst for me was that I had recommended him to a friend before my second encounter. He SCAMMED her completely for $1,800.00. (Our jobs were being done simultaneously). We contacted him many times and he just continued to say, "I don't have any money." Then, of course, he stopped responding to our calls. As it turns out, I believe that he robs Peter to pay Paul. He obviously does not keep an escrow for each job, which is to be used ONLY for that job. This is all absolutely true and due to his work being good many years ago, needless to say, I was horribly disappointed. My conclusion is that this person has little character to do the right thing when the going gets tough. I tried my best to renegotiate, but he was unwilling. He had his money. **The total job was $3,000.00; $1,000.00 of it was done satisfactorily. However, the portion that needed redoing was for the approximate $2,000.00.
