The initial meetings with the owner went well - we received a prompt estimate, and response times were fast. The crew showed up timely, especially considering this was around the Christmas holidays. The demo of the old cedar shake roof went quickly and fine, as best I can tell. The new decking went up without much issue. The real problem manifested with the installation of the architectural shingles on the steeply sloped roof sides. It is VERY apparent that the roofers employed by Rowe had never worked on a roof such as this one before - the shingles were not appropriately tacked up. With a roof this steep, they must be double tacked to ensure they do not rip off over time. Also, many of the shingles were installed crooked and haphazardly, which may not be visible on a 'normal' roof, but are painfully obvious on this roof. The shingles were also not overlapped on the inside corners of where the roof met - they are just 'cut' where they meet in the corner with the tin flashing visibly shining through in those areas. They also painted the flashing that overhangs from the flat roof to the sides with a very cheap, low grade spray paint that did not hold up more than a few months. After the first rain storm, we realized there was a new leak in the roof which caused a lot of damage to the interior of an upstairs room. The leak was caused by the team inappropriately pulling back the flashing and not reattaching and waterproofing it correctly. Rowe denied they had caused this leak - but the roof was water tight prior to this work. Despite denying responsibility, they sent someone out to "fix" the leak, but did NOT fix the leak at all. It leaked again after the very next rain. We went up on the roof to see what they had done, and their "fix" included squirting a bunch of clear caulk in the general vicinity of where we said it was leaking. My husband and I purchased a bucket of flashing tar, and ended up fixing that issue ourselves, since it was crystal clear that this company has no idea what they were doing. Over the next weeks and months, the shingles began falling off. One or two here and there, pretty much weekly. We had to keep calling them out to replace and repair the torn and broken shingles. The work was supposed to come with a 5 year warranty. At first they responded promptly and repaired the offending shingles, but over time they began to respond less and less often. This went on for years, sometimes we would have to call or email for months to get them to come fix the fallen shingles. Eventually in early 2012, they decided to completely stop honoring the "warranty" at all, citing "extreme weather conditions" as the cause of the shingle failures. This is odd, considering where the house is situated... most of the wind we get is from the West. The falling shingles exist all around the roof, but primarily on the south and east sides of the home. We ended up filing a claim with the BBB against them - in which the BBB agreed with us, but it was unresolved. Rowe Roofing refused to honor their warranty or fix their terrible mistakes. Don't be sucked in by their "low" price! We definitely got what we paid for, and it was not worth it!
Description of Work: We purchased a home in December of 2008 with a cedar shake mansard style roof (flat top with steep, shingled sides). In order for our home owner's insurance to cover us in Texas, we were required to replace the cedar shakes with standard roofing materials. This required the demolition of the cedar shake sides, new decking to be installed, and new architectural asphalt shingles to be installed over the decking for the entire home.

They didn't touch the decking. They were doing it for cash not insurance. They didn't pull a permit for the work. They decking was rotted and needed to be replaced but they said they were not going to touch the decking and just put on new shingles. Stay far away! I wouldn't ask them to put a roof on my rat's house.
Description of Work: They were hired to replace the roof. Take old shingles off and put new ones on.
