The two men were there for about 45 min prepping the area, left and returned with a new toilet about one hour later. They installed it, took approximately 45 min. I was then handed a bill for 635.00. I about started crying. I am not dramatic, but I was overwhelmed. I had looked at prices of toilets online, and could not imagine what this total included. As the guys were leaving I followed them out to the truck to get the model numbers of the toilet. I googled them, and the toiled was marked up 120.00. I was charged for 2 hours of service for a total of 270.00$.
I work in a customer dependent field, and so I thought I would give the owner/manager a call to at least get an explanation. I spoke with Karl, the owner. I told him where I got his information and that I wanted to get his explanation before I posted about my experience. I realize that this statement immediately put him on the defense, and if I could go back and do it over, I would state my situation different. I really don't think it would have helped. His response was "are you threatening me?". I said no, I just want an explanation. I also realize that I should have done my due diligence, and asked more questions up front. Knowing my mistakes along the way and admitting them to Carl, I was thinking that I would at least get an apology for the plumbers not being more informative up front, or more accurate about the mark up of the toilet. He told me that he is not the type that thinks the customer is always right. He asked what it would take to make me happy? I did not have an answer, because I did not necessarily want to be refunded, although it would have been nice, I just wanted to understand the situation better. After calculating this fancy toilet seat that he put on, and the difference in what I thought would be the mark up, he said "would 20$ make you happy?". I told him I guess and he said he would send it to me. I never received the 20$. I never complained on the website where I got his name. I had to let the experience pass for a couple of months, because I was appalled at the service and the lack of respect from the owner. Maybe it is normal to charge a full hours worth of work when the plumbers are not working the entire time. At my job I get paid only the time I am at work, working. If I leave 15 min early, I only get paid for 45 min.
I hope this helps. I am not a negative person. I always give people the benefit of the doubt, and thought maybe he had a bad day, but when I saw the other posting about the owner, and business practice I had to share. If you chose to use this plumber, ask lots of questions up front. I didn't and I regret it.
We have used Carl’s company for going on 12 years and have never been dissatisfied with their work. His plumbers are always courteous and always get the job right the first time. They always return calls and are always on time for appointments.
I called them and was able to get same day service. The plumbers arrived and discovered that the leak was actually coming from inside the tank dripping down to the valve. They fixed that problem and also noticed that the toilet was not secure. Asked if I wanted that fixed and proceeded to reseat after my approval.
The sink was tighten up and repaired in minutes.
