Lucy & Ethel Do Estate Sales

Susan and her crew made the difficult job of selling my mother's estate painless. They were professional, honest, and timely. They sold everything of value and left her home clean and ready for the realtor. If I ever need another estate liquidator, I hope Susan and her team are available.

I had a very good experience using Lucy and Ethel Do Estate Sales. Susan Callicott did an excellent job for me with my Mother’s estate earlier this year. Although I have gone to estate sales for a number of years, I didn’t know how it worked; Susan understandingly walked me through the process. She was kind and generous with her knowledge about the items in the home; she and her staff were timely and diligent in their work. When they said something wouldhappen, they made it happen. There was a contract to sign, but it was short and very straightforward. Susan advertises the sale on several estate sale websites. They will have someone clean the house afterward, and leftover items can go to a charity she knows, but only if that’s what you want. Just so you know, they take a flat percent of the sales. As I understood it, when setting the percent, they consider the number of items that are valued over a certain dollar amount (in this case, $100). You can imagine that it is faster and easier to mark and sell these type of items rather than a lot of small or less expensive ones. But as you might expect, almost every estate includes many of the incidental items of everyday life. I had already thrown away some old financial items (typed checks from 1966, LOL!) and so you can expect there will be some things that will be thrown out. However, Susan is firm that she does not want you throw out anything and let them make that decision. Be aware that they will sell everything that you leave in the home. They may ask about curtains and drapes and maybe some things that could be considered fixtures in the home, because people who come to the sell will ask about them! They displayed the contents of the home so things were appealing and accessible. Susan has a great following (me being among them) and even before I engaged her for the sale, she always greeted me in a friendly manner.If you have a chance to go to one of her sales, you could consider doing that. When it is your time to sell the contents of the home of a loved one (or anyone) you can be at ease about the process if you use Susan to get it done.

They did a super job. Every single thing in the house was accounted for, organized, tagged, and sold! Even the very few unsold items were either sold to a remainderman or sent to a charity. At the end we had an empty house! Because some of the items had been designated to individuals who didn't want the items, they even kept track of who got separate proceeds. When they found items of sentimental interest that we had not located, they set them aside. There was great communication all around. I was a little concerned about lack of advertising but she has a great network of followers - she was even able to see an electronic pipe organ! We helped with a little local advertising through Facebook, but that was fairly minor. The write up on her own web page was priceless! I can't say enough good things about them!

The entire process went much better than we thought it could. From the first phone call to Susan to the end result, we could not have been more pleased. Susan came out as scheduled and on time (first positive) She walked thru the home, garage,storage shed and peeked in the attic with us. We then sat and discussed how she does her business. From pre-pricing, set up, clean up, dates and most important her fee. We had several family heirlooms that we wanted to hopefully get a good price for. She assured us that with her experience in this business that she would be able to price everything fairly. And that she would try and sell everything that was at all possible. From old pots and pans to lawn and garden equipment and everything in between. She said there would be extensive photos taken of the better things and posted on a local website that specializes in estate sales. After this extensive interview we were comfortable with Susan, just as our friends had been. So we discussed dates and times and agreed on the best date for everyone. We were told it wasn't necessary to be present during the sale, that they would handle everything. That was great since this had been my childhood home and it was difficult for me anyway. The end result was wonderful. We were paid more than we anticipated and she almost sold everything (much to our surprise) as she had said. Hopefully we won't need to do this again anytime soon, but if we do we will not hesitate to contact Susan (Lucy) and her crew (Ethel)
