I should have expected what I got as normally I have the home warranty folks give me what ever they allow and I get it done myself but when I did some checking and this group didn't check out so well I decided what the heck let the home warranty folks worry about it and let me tell you I learned my lesson. Not only will I not renew my home warranty but I will never call these folks to work on my AC or even my lawn mower. When they replaced the condenser they just happened to not look at the rest of the unit to notice the coils and vents needed a cleaning so when it over heated it quit so they had to come back and of course that wasn't covered so I got to pay another $125 for that. The only thing they had going for them was the young man they sent out the second time. He was extremely professional and handled my anger very well. Wouldn't touch them again with a ten foot pool.
This is the same review I put on Yelp so if you think you're seeing double you'll know why.
I just cut and pasted it from there and made some minor edits. I didn't want to write the whole thing again.
My 17 year old AC system was starting to become somewhat unreliable so I decided it was time to do some research and get a few bids. I have a 5 ton unit downstairs and a 2 ton upstairs. I got four bids and Kozy was the least expensive by a considerable amount. I have to admit that after reading some of the reviews I was a bit nervous about using them but I couldn't ignore the difference in cost so I took a chance and went with Kozy. Brian and Julio came out and made an assessment of what I would need. They were very professional and not high pressure at all. Once I made the decision to move forward with this I sent a note to Brian and he took it from there. I soon received a call from Angie and we scheduled the installation. Angie said the installers would be there at 9:30 Friday morning July 3rd, 2015 and it would take two days to complete the installation.
Eddie and his two helpers showed up right on time and were very polite and professional.
They started right away and I never saw them stop for a break. At around 2:00 p.m. I asked them if they had eaten lunch. They said no so I offered to go get them something and they said no thank you we're fine. They had to put in an extra return which meant cutting a hole in the Ceiling. They were very careful not to make a mess of things. They put drop cloths down where they walked and worked and afterwards asked for a broom and cleaned up after themselves. They worked until 8:30 p.m. that night and completed the job that day. I inspected the attic and everything was clean and in order. No trash or mess was left up there.
I know it's a bit early to do a review but I clear core every night so I have to get this done while it's still fresh in my mind. Kozy installed a 5 ton and 2 ton 16 seer Trane system. Of course, time will only tell if the system holds up and how Kozy responds if I have issues with it. Bottom line is, Kozy did what they said they were going to do and since they installed two complete systems in one day and not two, well then, In my opinion the installers went above and beyond.
I obviously can't speak to the experiences some of the other reviewers had but I can say that I had the home warranty for seven years and the contractors are bound by their rules. They cannot replace anything unless approved by the warranty company and I get that. It's the home warranty's business model. For me, since I replaced the AC system I could no longer see the value add in keeping the home warranty so I cancelled it yesterday. I also understand that people usually don't write reviews unless they've had a bad experience so the reviews can be somewhat skewed. I've also seen where someone reviewed the wrong company so let me be clear that the company I'm reviewing is Kozy Services at 11431 Plano Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
It's my hope that I will not have to contact Kozy again for anything relating to my AC system but as I said before, only time will tell. They have other services which I hope to use in the future.
I hope this helps anyone that is needing to replace their AC system and for now, I recommend Kozy Services.
We are currently awaiting our fourth visit to get our A/C fixed. We were required to use this company through our home warranty service.
First visit, they got the air running in our back house but not in the main house. They determined the rest of what we needed wasn't covered under home warranty, and we would need to schedule them independently. (Not true, home warranty DID cover a portion of our duct work.) Second visit, the unit they fixed in the back house leaked through our roof for two days but they inspected the main unit again and determined that they could fix it but we needed to completely reduct both houses. The third visit, they reducted both units, determined that the main unit was completely out of freon, and added 6.5 lbs. They say they checked for leaks, but four weeks later, it appears as though 6.5 lbs of freon have once again leaked out.
The city needed to inspect our new duct work. Kozy continuously called the wrong number, a disconnected phone, until they sent us a "final notice" letter in the mail about their "continued attempts" to schedule an appointment with the inspector. We called and once again gave them the correct phone number. They left a voicemail on the CORRECT PHONE NUMBER stating that they had updated our records to show the new number. They were to reschedule the inspection, but SURPRISE, they gave the inspector the old phone number so we got a nice red "WARNING" on our front door for missing the appointment. We called both Kozy and the inspector to reschedule, with no response. We then got a certified letter in the mail from Kozy stating that we were negligent in helping their attempts to schedule the inspection- a letter which they sent a copy of to the city, and a letter which didn't even have our correct address. Conveniently, we got this letter the day the A/C went out AGAIN. So here we are, and Kozy called at 9:30 to say they'd gotten an email from the inspector at 8:30 stating that he would be here between 8:30 and 9:30. Contacted Cheryl, the most abhorrently incompetent bumpkin I have ever had the displeasure of trying to communicate with, who said "he had until 9:45 to get there." Well, 10:30 and no inspector, so she reveals that she has no contact information, doesn't know which inspector is supposed to come to the house, and will try to call the city. LO AND BEHOLD, the inspector had already come and gone AGAIN before Kozy even called to tell us they would be doing the inspection this morning.
As a resolution to this problem, the tech informed us we would be getting our situation taken care of for free. Kozy calls to tell us that we would owe $1,155. Why? We weren't up to code, what do you know! Funny how they know that when they haven't been able to get an inspector up there. ALSO, we were responsible for 11 lbs (when our system holds 6 bs) of freon to replace the 6lbs they put in FOUR WEEKS ago, right after they checked for leaks. How you can check for a leak and have it lose more than a pound a week, I just don't know.
This company is a complete joke. I have never worked with more incompetent, ignorant, rude and unhelpful people. Cheryl had the gall to raise her voice and try to speak over me to tell me it "wasn't her fault" that we didn't answer the door when the inspector that they didn't tell us was coming showed up.
Would absolutely not recommend.
Found that furnace was not working on a Sunday morning, could hear it trying to click on but nothing happening. Called American Home Shield and told that Cozy Services would contact us. Received a call from Kozy within an hour to set up appointment to come for a service call. Gave us a time between 4-8pm on Monday. They called us Monday morning saying they would be able to arrive earlier if convenient. Agreed to earlier time and Nick called us when he was 20 mins away. Arrived on time, professional and friendly. After checking problem thought it was just the gas valve sticking so replaced that and furnace kicked on. However shortly after he left I could hear it was doing the same thing and not coming on so my husband called the company right away, told them Nick had only been gone for about 15 mins. but the furnace was doing the same thing. Asked if he could come back. They contacted Nick and he returned. Checked unit again and determined that the ignition module was sending a weak signal and replaced the module. Stayed to make sure the furnace was working properly and have had no further problems. After reading some of the other evaluations on Angies list I was a bit concerned but Nick fixed the problem, we were notified ahead of visit and he arrived promptly on time. When a problem did develop they immediately contacted him to come back. We were satisfied with the service, service tech and Kozy Services and would use them again. We also received a call the next day to make sure our furnace was working properly. Appreciated the follow up.

make an appointment on Thursday evening but we were unavailable so they came out Friday evening.
Their technician, Ronald, looked at the condenser and said he knew what was wrong and it would cost us the $75 AHS service fee plus 10 pounds of refrigerant at $40 per pound but AHS would only pay $10 per pound so we would owe another $300. I asked what others charged and was told $40 per pound so we agreed to the repair.
Ronald fixed a leak in the copper pipes, tested the fix, added a booster capacitor, and filled the unit with R22. In the process, he removed some papers and handed them to me saying they needed to be filed in the house. He had some trouble getting the unit
to run but finally got it going. It ran for quite some time before it got the upstairs cooled down. On Saturday afternoon, we noticed it was not working and the circuit breaker was tripped.
On Monday we called Kozy and they said they couldn't come out unless there was power and the circuit breaker was repaired. I replaced the breaker with a new one and the A/C unit tripped the breaker. AHS decided to send out someone else to
diagnose the problem.
The guy who called asked if Kozy was the repair outfit and I said yes. He came out and said the starter unit had been wired incorrectly, the compressor was grounded and shot.
Brian, from Kozy, called Monday night and said he had to diagnose the unit. I asked if he had talked to AHS as that had already been done. He said no and repeated his request and I suggested he contact AHS first. Suddenly, without a word, I was
listening to some music. I asked if anyone was listening and, after a couple of minutes, hung up. Later, AHS reported that Kozy said I refused to let them come out (false) and that I insisted they could only come with a new compressor (a total lie).
The condenser was repaired the next day by the diagnosing company. It took a new compressor, new capacitor, new filters, new R22 and, of course, a lot of copper pipe repair. The unit seems to be working fine after over $700 of repairs paid by AHS.
One of the papers mentioned above was a specification sheet on the unit and it showed the maximum capacity of the machine to be 6 pounds, 11 ounces of R22. A little Internet research showed that the retail price of R22 was $264 for 30 pounds so, with $36
shipping, the retail price is $10 per pound, the amount that AHS will pay. Of course, Kozy must pay much less than the retail price for the refrigerant.
Contacting Kozy, they said there was R22 in the lines and that is probably true but not to the extent of three pounds. I did some checking with A/C professionals and they said there was absolutely no way the unit could take more than 8 pounds. Now, Kozy is marking up the RETAIL price four times plus trying to get another 50% by overstating the amount of R22 required.
On August 28, I contacted Kozy and offered to pay for 8 pounds of R22. I then sent a follow up note but the return call came late
that afternoon. To their credit, Kozy decided to refund the cost for 3 pounds of R22 in a gesture of good will.
The Kozy repairs speak for themselves but it was extremely difficult to get this company to respond in a timely manner. More importantly, they showed themselves to be strangers to the truth and entirely capable of misleading consumers. When caught, they did return the over charged amount but the whole process was unpleasant.
In the future, we will not accept AHS service folks which this type of reputation.
I was temped to buy the extended warrantee for $240/yr for my 2 units after my home owner warrantee runs out in 11 month, but based on the schizophrenic reviews by other Angie's List member, I will hold off for now! I am happy with them now, and hopefully I won't have to revise my reviews.
The crew came with a different attitude. They refused to lift the ducting off the attic floor, which they did with the first unit. We had to call their boss Glen to get them to properly lift the ducting. They installed the second compressor backwards (180 degrees opposite the other with all the connections facing away from the wall of the house) despite my wife telling them it was not how she wanted it. Glen did send a technician (Chris) out in response but he said this was required by code. The bottom line is they left us with a backwards compressor unit. The code inspector came a couple days later and red tagged the unit for three deficiencies...the backwards compressor, an indoor electrical box used outside and lack of a filter in the air handler.
I called Kozy and spoke to Glen 1 May to inform them I wanted a code re-inspection today after the deficiencies were fixed. He agreed and said he would arrange it. I called 2 May in morning to find out when the inspection was scheduled and found out that no re-inspection had been arranged. Not sure whether Glen failed to pass the task along or if someone else dropped the ball, but we would have no re-inspection until next week.
Kozy left at 1500 2 May, sending Eric out for five hours to fix the problems. He was a professional and friendly technician who got the job done properly and apologized for the performance of his company.
We will not use Kozy again because we don't know whether Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde will show up. We had a great experience the first time, but the second one was frustrating and disappointing.
