I believe I was taken advantage by Jack McGrath. He charged me an exhorbitant amount ($7,000.00) for an extremely high-end landscape plan that I will never be able to afford to implement. I am not saying he isn't good at what he does, but if you decide to use his services, be very careful and have him to write everything down for you so you won't encounter any hidden costs or estimates.
Description of Work: The only service performed were the plans for landscaping my property, an average sized home lot. I made it clear that my budget would be under 10,000.00 for everything & that I wanted to implement the plan in stages, as I could afford it. I explained to Mr. McGrath that I probably wouldn't be able to afford his implementation of the plans, but just wanted a good plan to work from, ie., place flowers, plants & trees that grow well in sun or shade, types of fencing (according to his artistry as a landscape architect/designer) & proper drainage needs. At his bequest, I paid him $2,000.00 initially, & $5,000 when he delivered the plans. Then, it was if he had never heard me tell him what I wanted. He asked me how soon he & his crew could begin the project. I reminded him that I couldn't afford his labor costs and asked him how much the entire landscaping - including plants, etc., would cost. He said it would be around $50,000.00 to $75,000.00. My home is only worth about $230,000.00! So I learned my lesson the hard way - be SURE to find out exactly the amount of money you will have to pay overall ! ! ! Now I'm stuck with a grandiose plan and trying to figure out how to "dumb it down" to get anything at all for my money. I'm a 70 year old widow and I think he saw me coming, if you get my drift. One day, completely out of the blue, he just point blank asked me if he could borrow $5,000.00. I thought that was very odd. I told him I didn't have that kind of money & have no idea why he would have thought I did.
